WOW, so that's where that sound I sometimes hum or play in my head comes from. I combined it randomly with other chimes, but this is the origin.... must have heard it while I was a kid
Marv Albert-"Hello everybody, and welcome to game 6 of the NBA finals in Salt Lake City, Utah as the Bulls try to finish off the Jazz and win their 3rd NBA championship in 3 yrs. I'm Marv Albert.......
This was one of the last times i cared about the NBA, last time was when the 76ers made it to the finals against LA in 01. All they talk about now is Lebron James and how he's better than Jordan.
Back when NBA Teams were actually teams and not a loose collection of guys wanting to be in the spotlight. Ok, yeah, there are some teams left in the NBA, but not like back in the 1990s or earlier.
When I hear that intro, my mind automatically travels back to those amazing playoff games. Particularly the FINALS games between the Jazz and the Bulls. Seriously, you just knew you were about to witness something special as soon as you heard the opening chords of it. My heart used to beat faster whenever it came on. Ahhhh I miss the 90s.
What I would give for the NBA to return to NBC. And I would probably kill thousands, commit genocide, if it meant that the NBA could magically go back to the 80s and 90s style of play. Today's soft ass basketball and weak "superstars" make me want to vomit.
@necrofear98 Those 17 people probably think Lebron and Kobe are the greatest in NBA history. And they probably listen to Justin Bieber or something. Young, idiot punks need to learn about the history of the game.
NBC's coverage of the NBA was just better than the networks that have it today. It didn't matter who was playing-- they made it feel like an event.
Granted, they had much more to work with. Olajuwon and the Rockets, Barkley and the Suns, Ewing and the Knicks, Malone and the Jazz, and, of course, Jordan and the Bulls... I mean, it's not even fair to kids today.
Too bad NBC let their sports department and network in general go to shit. NBA should never have left their airwaves. NBA on NBC always did it right for both parties... Here's to hoping for a return to this partnership years down the road...
oh man yea this is NBA ON NBC ON FINALS 2001 GAME 1 DALLAS MAVERICS VS MIAMI HEAT , TNT FUCK IM REMEMBER THE 90S THIS INTRO,fans should vote by nbc back again.
I absolutely hate what the NBA has become. I stopped watching when they yanked my Sonics out of town after they had been here for over 40 years, 3 finals appearances and a championship.
Nothing is more nostalgic for me than this song. Lying on my carpet in front of the TV during the weekend mornings watching the Bulls, Knicks, Pacers and Celtics from the 90s. I was about 11 when this was in it's prime and it's some of the fondest memories I have.
Funny how life speeds up on you and all you are left with is memories.
This is the shit man. I remember as a teenager waiting for the theme song when it came on then everybody knew to shut up and watch the game. Now we have to listen to van gundy trying to be funny on ABC or ESPN. Marv Albert the best NBA announcer I believe.
i just came to a conclusion! when the nba was on nbc free agents barely left for "marketability" when it was on nbc everyone watched the league so there were no problems to get a endorcement. now that they went to espn nobody cared. This is what ruined the nba's small markets! just think about it. Clevland had a lot of people watch there games with ehlo and doughtery. sacramento was great with weber, bibby/wiliamns divac, peja. nobody complained about small market than. Nbc needs to come back!
back then, that stupid scoreboard just shows up out of nowhere while today, it stays. damn, i miss the old NBA. Back then, they can get to more than 90 points by the end of the 3rd quarter. today, it's already overtime but neither teams got at least 100 yet
@RDJnDME its different now, now you have egomaniacs like LeBron James and D-Wade who with Chris Bosh cant even win a championship with 3 of the top players in the NBA on one team. LeBron talks a bigger game than he plays and coming through in the 4th quarter? Forget about it. Ill admit that 2011 finals was fun to watch, but back then, i dont recall MJ needing Karl Malone and John Stockton or Patrick Ewing to win a championship. This was when i looked forward to watching the NBA, when it was NBC
@RDJnDME I dont recall MJ playing a few seasons with the Bulls and then saying "im never gonna win a title with this team, im gonna go find another team with better players and a higher caliber level to help us practically walk in the park in the finals, only to lose to a more underated team" MJ was the reason people turned on their TV sets, he amazed us and he wasnt near as cocky as LeBron, and MJ had a reason to be cocky, he just went out there and played.
@danerook read the above comments, everyones entitled to their own opinion, but i meant this was when basketball was still REALLY worth watching, like you anticipated it and couldnt wait to turn it to NBC to hear this theme and see the Bulls play the Knicks and those NBC graphics that made the game special with the NBC commentators, now when i see a game on TNT or ABC im like eh, whatever ill watch a little bit but it wasnt as appealing as it was back in the day
@CRWrestlingfan Thank you very much...this generation sucks compared to the 80-90s era. I mean we watched LEGENDS growing up. This generation has what....people like lebron james?? I was a chicago fan back then and i'm not even from that city. It was worth watching the NBA when you had people like Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Larry Johnson, Mugsy, all these NBA superstars had skill and talent to make you want to be like them.

@zzyzx0788 Yeah! same here! This music got me so pumped and loved everything Bulls and Basketball. it feels like it was a dream just thinking about it. Like a wonderful time of my life so peaceful and tranquil. Hot summers right after the last day of elementary school. grab some friends drink Pepsi (cola wasnt the thing for my family at the time), and turn up the TV for Michael Jordan!
i remember on sundays when i heard thiz intro i ran outside eventhough it was spring and only 60 degrees to shoot on the local playgroung. that was the gratest intro ever
It's going to be hard to come back to NBC, going to have to wait for another 5 years, assuming that players won't chew up their contracts, players today don't deserve $60-100 Million.
basketball was never the same when Weak ass ESPN took over. No offense to that network but for real NBC made playoff basketball seem like the biggest deal in the world when i was a kid...They made the Sixers getting swept by the lakers seem like a great series.....ESPN/ABC takes all the life out of basketball telecasts...TNT is ok but they still lack what NBC had going with these intros
@earlylatebrunch Dude..that is SOOO true. I remember watching the Finals in the mid and late 90s when I was a kid and it was the BOMB.COM dude. Miss that sh*t!
NBA on NBC was the best. You would get a double header or triple header. i would watch the first game then go play some basketball, Good times.

@earlylatebrunch Sixers weren't swept. They won the first game.

@earlylatebrunch That wouldn't be because most of your memories of playoff basketball during this era were either of Magic, Bird, or Jordan would it?

@earlylatebrunch Dude..that is SOOO true. I remember watching the Finals in the mid and late 90s when I was a kid and it was the BOMB.COM dude. Miss that sh*t!
