@fameusgaming Canada imposes incredibly strict regulations on the bluefin fishery. I'm pretty sure that each charter captain in the country or the eastern provinces is limited to taking one fish per year. Hook ups are limited by law to no more than two per boat, per day with no more than one fish brought to the boat! As far as eating is concerned, they sell these fish to the biggest sushi markets in the world for thousands of dollars per fish.
What a monster fish! Bravo for getting him to the boat! I assume you kept him and feasted on sushi that night!! How tired were you later that night I wonder??
@2kneefishman Thanks man! I was hoping he would hit the stand up rod which was on the kite. No luck, so I gave it a shot with the big boy rod and reel. Hardest thing I've ever done... Amazing fishery up there. Love the Braid video on your channel by the way!
Terrible shape on that fish. Must have just made a long run from somewhere. Needs to fatten up a lot-probably why its off Canada and not the US. Mid water herring boats are ruining the tuna fishery wherever they go here in the US. No bait, not fish returning, or sticking around.
@keepertuna76 I'm no expert, but from what I've heard it wouldn't be too surprising if he put on another 15% to 20% of body weight in the next eight weeks while he's up in Canada. It's a totally different world when it comes to protecting their fishery.
On the flip side, we caught other fish up there which, at around 900 pounds, were in perfect condition (fat, great coloring, no marks, etc...). I wonder if the angler didn't wear him out after almost four hours...Ha!
@drybowserman9091 Depends on what you mean by "catch." If you're asking whether it's harder to hook a 700 pound bluefin vs a billfish on a global basis, I'd say there are a lot fewer spots in the world where the giant bluefin can be targeted due to overfishing, etc... When it comes to the fight, it's up for debate. A lot comes down to the type and quality of the gear being used.
thats a million dollar fish in japan

Wished you would've let it go but hey, as long as you do it within reason (you're set for the year on fish) it's a fine trophy!

You should enter the worlds strongest man contest, that's the hardest way to fight a giant.
Congrats's on fish of a life time, man I use 5' rods or less to fight giants and I have a hard time, you really should be commended.

Whoa, that's impressive, but what do you think is harder to catch, a bluefin tuna at 700 pounds or a Swordfish/Marlin at 700 pounds?
