Jeff, are you originally from Easterhouse? only i used to go to both the Clare and the Lenny with a girl called Rosemary Zycinski, any relation of yours?
that wiz a wee hockey pitch he wiz filming fae just next to were the janitors house stood played many a game of fitba on that pitch brings back memories on that and in the project went there lunchtime fur a roll n sausage and a kick aboot i went 2 the lenny fae 1991 tae 1995 class school and jack duffy wiz still teaching there even then.
I live in Forglen Street and you're right, it always seemed out of place compared to the rest of the streets in the area. It hasnt changed over the decades, looks the same and has most of the same residents. Such a quiet street that the gritters forget to grit here in the winter.
I had similiar experiences, this time on the Edinburgh Rd border with Barlanark. Was attacked by 5 or 6 neds led by 'Mad Frankie' who claimed that as I lived in Bartiebieth Rd I was a member of the Torran Toi. I wasn't but depsite my heartfelt denials I still ended up with a bloody nose.
Enjoyed the story! I was born in Duntarvie Crescent, and I attended Saint Scholasticas (Mrs Downy-Head Teacher); but left Easterhouse for East Sussex before actually attending the 'Lenny'. I went to visit my old school some years ago, to find it levelled!! Lots of memeories. I enjoyed this this vid v much. Thanks.
I don't know when you were at the lenny but I remember...big Jack, Tommy Kirk (P.E) Mr Sheilds (P.E) Mr Corrigan (Jellyneck) Mr Broslan, Miss Duffy (Yummy) Mr Doyle (History) Mr Wolfe (Classics) Wee Burnsie (Science) Mr Jack (Techi) Wee Foster (Techi) Kevin Kelly (Fungi) from Modern Studies, Mr Preston (Modern Studies) Mr Marron (Maths) Mr Mc Fadden (English) Miss McLauglin (Home ece) Miss Murdoch (Science) Gerry Kelly (Art)....prob loads more but ran out of characters lol
the lenny eh!that was my secondary school,i went drom 1978-1982,stayed in provvy,i still remember the names of aw the old teachers, someone mentioned jack duffy, lol,a remember him,aye the old days man,u canny wak em,xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
A bit Off to the right from where the Lenny Stood on the opening shot ...you werE looking across the pitches at the Project ( a name given to 2 Half Tube shaped corrugated Iron buildings given to us in the 60 from Frankie V), I went to The Lenny ST Leonards for any of you Westenders....I had the time of my life at that School.. more to come!!
Well I was in Auchinlea Rd for 28 years before I moved over to Ireland. Still miss it tho.....dn't miss the wee cunts that vandalised my car tho lol.......ahh the good old days.
Just up from that video is a street called Forglen street, it is the most out of place street in the whole of Easterhouse, every house is semi detached with a wee cul de sach. it's as if the designers made the street then decided "bugger this lets just go back to building Tenements" if you'r ever up that area again check out Forglen St...it doesn't belong there!!
I'm no being funny mate but if you spoke like that in the "lenny" it's nae wonder you got hit over the heid wae a brick!!! I'm only joking with you mate. BRILLIANT vid, nice memories and yeah that gate was also a route of escape many times. I'm sure you will remember Jack Duffy?? English, Nice bloke. Gutted when the raised it to the ground. I alway come back and drive through the "Drummy, Provy, and Bal Toi"
Out the gate of the "Lennie" up the path and right into Dubton Street or climb over the other gate up at the top that was across from the old polis station (hut). And then head for Kildermorie Rd and I did that every morning, lunchtime and night. Even crossing over the pitches at Westwood....Never a problem, this is a bit too dramatic for my liking or recollection of how bad it was.
Me, I was in Easterhouse from 1963 - 1989, including the annexe in Dennistoun for 1st year St Leonard's
Bergman meets the Blair Witch Project round by Robert Frost's House ('something there is that does not love a wall').Chilling.Frankie Vaughan for the soundtrack?
! went thru' that gate many times myself, that's Dubton Path if memory serves
