power lines are easy to spot from the ground, sure. high contrast against a white or blue sky. but when airborne, mixed among trees, fields, roads, houses and everything moving, they can be near impossible to see.

that's why there's VISUAL APPROACH CHARTS. so that you can see which areas you have to avoid during approach.

you could hang from a high voltage wire, as LONG AS YOU DONT GROUND YOURSELF. the minute you touch the wire and the ground at the same time FRIED. so hanging there was not dangerous until the boom truck went up to get them out. if they dont touch the plane, then everything is cool. they DID NOT touch ground and plane at the same time, ma and pa got to drive home that night. :)
