  • The unfortunate matter is I know much more how to play guitars more than I know about them... Where do I start if I wanna build one?

  • You got fucked. 1100 dollars?? How much is shippin again? Hell i just got two emgs for about $100 shippin included. That being said love the guitar! ive always wanted to build one and am still intending to this just gave me some inspiration!

  • I bet there's a sense of value and pride when it comes to playing a guitar that you built yourself

I really, really want to build and design my own guitar *determined face*

  • what type of stain or grain sealer are you using in the picture at 1:00 to make the grain gray?

  • the body is great. its not too steep like alot of other guys do it. ahhh.. just curious are you playing through a mini amp?

  • the one im building is running about 400-500$ right now

its sick ill post a video

  • i haven't started trying to make a custom body yet but i probably will over the summer while i have spare time and i'm sure if you get a piece of wood then reshape it and take the neck/pickups/pickguard/other hardware off another guitar its alot cheaper

  • oh man.. 1100??? thats wqy too much, its awesome i like it but fuck i'm building a guitar right now that hasn't yet cost me $110 yet, i just bought a Floyd Rose and a 24 fret neck and I'm going to buy some active pickups for pretty cheap, and my uncle is an auto-body painter who an get it done free or cheap, but i like it, it looks and sounds great!!

  • thing is that floyd rose if you bought for 25 bucks is going to sound awful and probably not stya in tune and if you really spend less than 50 dollars on pickups they sound muddy and shitty

  • @zacyboyZ actually i installed it and i sounds fine and stays perfectly in tune

  • @zacyboyZ why would you buy a $25 floyd rose???? i'd get one that was like 100 so i know that its pretty good

  • @DowntownTB13 dude if its $25 it's not a floyd rose.

  • @PennybagDarrell exactly, but why are u saying that to me, i was just saying what he said was fucking stupid, haha

  • it sounds awsome!

  • It does NOT sound awesome! It sounds untuned and like shit.

  • @GNRSlash94 to me it sounds like heaven is that allright?with you.

  • HAhahahaha, this is funny,

  • whoa $1100? I made mine for around $750 and I thought it was because I had a locking trem system. I didn't build the body from scratch though, but I'm planning to do a second build from scratch. For your guitar, was the expensive part making the body and neck themselves? Or did the budget include the CNC machine?

  • The CNC was free, the wood was very expensive. Pickups, knobs etc. also cost a fair bit to ship. However the largest expenses came in the finish which was done partially at an auto-body shop.

  • Nice work but I think you should have cut a scoop out of the body alongside the last frets of the neck for true access.

  • Turning Japaneseeeeee YEAH!

  • I found a DVD on Amazon called "A Complete Custom Electric Guitar" - if you search for this on YouTube you can find a preview on YouTube. It's is nearly 3 and a half hours long and is entertaining as well as interesting.

  • can you seed me drawings to so I can build one

  • Will you send me the drawings so I can make one? I just need the body. Thanx

  • I thought v guitars arent supposed to have a "cut away?" Since they're already thin, but the guitar is sick, got the almost dead headstock too! i got my wings last month, love deans now

  • guitar is pretty cool

check out my guitar project i'm working on its pretty awesome what i've done to it so far

  • the best part is whith an electric u can make it any shape cuz with an ocoustic it has to be built just right or else it sounds weird

  • how long did it take

  • Come check out the Flying V I built!!

  • nice head

  • digg the paint dude

  • the head is SO small

  • THAT'S what she said!!!

    hahahahahaha roflomgwtflolol

  • LOLZZORS NICE ONE HAHAHAHSKSLF

  • HAHASHAHAHAHSHASHASHHA

  • Pretty good work. But you could buy a Dean V for $400... sounds and looks better. :) And I mentioned Dean because of the Head style.

  • But building your own is so much more satisfying even if it is crap.

  • Yeah! That's why I want to make my own :D

  • i built mine form scatch too

  • thats a long strap,

  • beutifle music lol

  • Nice spelling

  • that makes me laugh a little xD

  • Metallica-Enter Sandman

  • it's handcrafted? i thought you cut it out with cnc machines?

  • too bad the neck looks fat as fuck

  • guitar looks fucking awesome but I had to watch this on mute cuz the music was terrible

  • freakin awesome

  • thats awesome.

  • niceeeeeeee

  • what kind of wood did you use for the body... also what thickness... great looking guitar by the way

  • at 1:22 what does BRS stand for?

  • It is the initials of my father and I.

  • You think your turning Japanese. At first...

  • then you realize you really are

  • whoa nice i really wanna make one bc i was playing drums for my dads band (i play guitar too) and the lead guiutarist (pat) made the guitar he was useing

  • Nice blue finish

  • i agree with rocki4k les paul's ! you should make a les paul in the same black n blue with the wood grain showing it looked fantasic well done

  • too bad the neck has to be bolt-on

  • If you made a neck through body the wood has to be reset after a few years because of temp change. Neck through bodies sound smoother but they do not have that grip and punch that you get with a bolt on.

  • what about the truss rod??

  • he had a pre-built neck, so it already had one

  • dont need to put wires in the guitar

  • hey could you make a video on how to make the body for a guitar, no one in particular(but if you can i would really like a Les Paul) because i want to make a few.

    Rocki4k~

  • ok i hope its not da guitar da sounds like da but a shity practice amp!

    wat wood did u use??

  • Swamp ash, and it is the recording/amp that sounds like ass, it was just a quickie recording and now meant to sound decent, check out the "Speed Demon" music video on my channel and you will see what the guitar actually sounds like.

  • wil do man

hw much did the swamp ash cost??

  • I think it was somewhere around 50 bucks, I can't quite remember, it was a few years ago.

  • nd da was dolars

    fuk

i live in ireland and im tryna get mahogany coz am doin a guitar nd its gona cost a shitload

  • Mahogany is about as expensive as it gets, good luck

  • hey ur not the only irish guy goin buildin an electric! i'm goin doin 1 for the auld leavin cert construction project. im so xcited bout it. mayb we cud share a few ideas?

  • o cul wat u got in mind??

  • dude great idea making a guitar but... if it cost $1100 id have much rather bought a dean V thts wot ur guitar looks like it tries to be but still gd work :) id never be able to make 1

  • nice finish!

  • Nice couch.

  • you played enter sandman wrong, how dare u

  • nice job on the guitar,i just bought a gibson les paul kit from ebay and i dont know how it is going to turn out,but if it does yeah! i got a les paul :)

  • 3years OMG?!

  • is that pine?

  • swamp ash for the body, and I think curly maple for the neck.

  • oh and i forgot gibson uses ebony----you should have done your research...my first guitar took 3 years to plan.

  • shit! 3 years?

  • people can take their time u no!!

he didnt necessarily work on it everyday.

in fact id estimate he did abit once a week/.

  • calm down!

i didnt want ur life story.

  • i grew up in a small town in michagen

i ran away from my parents at the age of 12.

i moved into chicargo with some of my more 'mellow' friends of mine (hippies)

i was raised by them untill they died in 1974

i then moved all the way to england, where i found it miserable after staying for a year, so i moved back to michegan..

...yeah im bullshitting you just so you know..

you shuld try being nice to people. thats what the hippes told me =)

  • i wasnt exactly bein a nasty pastie,

    just slightly sarcastic

  • Pedals wouldnt matter the fundamentals of a guitar never leaesthem when you plug into anything....It doesn't sound like a les paul because of your wood-looks like maple neck and ash body---you show me a lp built with those woods-wood is what matters

  • well, sir, as nice as it looks, i'd say the sound quality is quite lacking, ESPECIALLY if you did actually use Gibson's Les Paul stock p/u's. maybe it was the amp, but i'd say if you were to run that through a decent amp, you'd get a better tone quality, and maybe get it set up and tuned proper.

  • The sound quality of the recording is crap, and the guitar is run through a distortion pedal, the guitar sounds very similar to a les paul when it is recorded properly. This recording was done with a handycam

  • how many peices of wood did u use?

  • if u started from scratch u might as well have done a neck through, but not a big deal... good work even still.

  • I'm sorry man but your guitar playing (if thats you) isnt doing your beautiful work any justice but that is one way sick guitar =) good job

  • wow..thats a beautiful guitar. looks like it came fresh out of the shop! lol

  • Please someone answer this by reply or send me a message or comment... How did it get to be $1100? if i use cheap pickups for like a first act and put it on how much do you think it will cost? i wan to make my own but i don't want to spend $1100 on it. what pickups and stuff do you sugest? and is there a helpful book?

  • I used the same pick ups as a Les Paul which was very expensive. Things just kept adding up during the making of the guitar. The wood too was also very expensive. There are a lot of places you can cut corners and save your cash, but if you want it done right, you need to put a lot of money into it.

  • wait, how did that cost $1100? what was the pricey item?

  • How did you manage to get it blue sunburst and still have the wood grain? (1:40)

Really nice guitar by the way. Good job!

  • I used a black grain filler. Then the entire body was stained blue. The black was applied using a CNC machine programmed to spray the black edge around the shape of the guitar.

  • nice at 1 stange i was like omg thats not looking so good but the finish result is great good job!

  • Nice guitar

  • I'm thinking about making an electric guitar similar to the one you made, If you could like, e-mail me with some more in depth details or something, that would be greatly appreciated.

  • You Might be able to Sell some of these if you Clean up or Music a Little. Not a Bad Job. We all Want Guitars Built In U.S.A.

  • I don't plan on selling any of these, it's just a one-off that I built for myself. I agree with you on buying guitars built in the US though.

  • Do your strings break at the nut? You've got some pretty severe angles there!

  • Surprisingly the strings have never broken at the nut, just at the bridge.

  • ok thanks

  • so you like the "Dean" headstock look. So do i

  • whats the song called at the beggining. it sounds cool. please reply

  • The song is called "turning japanese"

  • some bits sound like enter sandman

  • i need to know how u got that AMAZIN blueburst type thing, its exactly what i want when i repain my guitar :P

    please reply

  • ill just buy an axe haah

  • Nice job on the guitar, nut you got to admit it soubnds like crap.

  • It sounds great, just a half-assed recording job

  • lol :P

  • what did u use to paint the guitar?

  • lol, ur take on 'enter sandman' is lol-able :p

  • Heyyy, please please please message me back on how you managed to get tat gorgeous paint job! It's the exact way I wanted my woodshop guitar to turn out, but alas it was no success =(

  • dude work as a craft maker not a musician. nice guitar, but ur music sucks

  • that guitar is maad

    cant stand the music tho

    sorry man

    wayyyy too much bass

  • Sweet.

  • nice H-) Cooool stuff man

  • beautiful guitar! i love "v" shaped guitars <3 it looks a little bit like Dean ;) good work

  • good job!!! but the guitar music is out of tune.

  • did you buy that dean style neck?

  • I made it, only the electronics for the guitar were bought.

  • well good work, cause that looks identical to a dean neck

  • It took me less than a year to build mine, and I was doing it in school! We turned out around 80 guitars this year.

  • how long would it take to do this?

  • It took me nearly a year to do, but it could be done in a smaller amount of time easily.

  • cnc machined huh?

wheres the pride in that? i hand carved my entire guitar. i also designed my own headstock and fretboard inlay. i used a les paul template but tweaked it to my liking. its worth at least 2000. but it cost me about 500. it took me three months to build. but for 2 grand for my first guitar id say isnt bad.

  • Damn, you made your own neck? I bought mine. Too much to go wrong with laying frets out.Theres only one more thing I needed to put on guitar. An Alarm system. Some bastard ripped it off. I did put a charge with a timer set for ten years though.....

  • is buying a neck expensive?

  • A Strat Type Neck was $175, back in 83' when I bought one. I was just 15, but figured out from Bro's mistake that the distance to twelth fret from Nut, is the same as to the Bridge.adjust your bridge in "Middle" of adjustments to go either way. This is critical, or your guitar will never be in tune at all frets!

  • I hate V's with all I have. They are just annoying. But you did a good job here. Liked the effect you made on the wood.

    Nice.

  • I like the song more

  • Amazing...

how can you put the frets in a perfect way?

I've failed once in this, and my guitar become crap

you have done a very nice guitar!

  • too good to be true

  • Thanks for posting that :)

  • Not bad. Go for the Sun Burst

  • what did you do to darken the grain lines?

  • Used grain filler mixed with black paint

  • coool!!! make me a guitar!!!! =DDDD

  • Great!!!!!!!!!

  • Indeed

  • Cool
