You got fucked. 1100 dollars?? How much is shippin again? Hell i just got two emgs for about $100 shippin included. That being said love the guitar! ive always wanted to build one and am still intending to this just gave me some inspiration!
i haven't started trying to make a custom body yet but i probably will over the summer while i have spare time and i'm sure if you get a piece of wood then reshape it and take the neck/pickups/pickguard/other hardware off another guitar its alot cheaper
oh man.. 1100??? thats wqy too much, its awesome i like it but fuck i'm building a guitar right now that hasn't yet cost me $110 yet, i just bought a Floyd Rose and a 24 fret neck and I'm going to buy some active pickups for pretty cheap, and my uncle is an auto-body painter who an get it done free or cheap, but i like it, it looks and sounds great!!
thing is that floyd rose if you bought for 25 bucks is going to sound awful and probably not stya in tune and if you really spend less than 50 dollars on pickups they sound muddy and shitty
whoa $1100? I made mine for around $750 and I thought it was because I had a locking trem system. I didn't build the body from scratch though, but I'm planning to do a second build from scratch. For your guitar, was the expensive part making the body and neck themselves? Or did the budget include the CNC machine?
The CNC was free, the wood was very expensive. Pickups, knobs etc. also cost a fair bit to ship. However the largest expenses came in the finish which was done partially at an auto-body shop.
I found a DVD on Amazon called "A Complete Custom Electric Guitar" - if you search for this on YouTube you can find a preview on YouTube. It's is nearly 3 and a half hours long and is entertaining as well as interesting.
I thought v guitars arent supposed to have a "cut away?" Since they're already thin, but the guitar is sick, got the almost dead headstock too! i got my wings last month, love deans now
whoa nice i really wanna make one bc i was playing drums for my dads band (i play guitar too) and the lead guiutarist (pat) made the guitar he was useing
If you made a neck through body the wood has to be reset after a few years because of temp change. Neck through bodies sound smoother but they do not have that grip and punch that you get with a bolt on.
hey could you make a video on how to make the body for a guitar, no one in particular(but if you can i would really like a Les Paul) because i want to make a few.
Swamp ash, and it is the recording/amp that sounds like ass, it was just a quickie recording and now meant to sound decent, check out the "Speed Demon" music video on my channel and you will see what the guitar actually sounds like.
hey ur not the only irish guy goin buildin an electric! i'm goin doin 1 for the auld leavin cert construction project. im so xcited bout it. mayb we cud share a few ideas?
dude great idea making a guitar but... if it cost $1100 id have much rather bought a dean V thts wot ur guitar looks like it tries to be but still gd work :) id never be able to make 1
nice job on the guitar,i just bought a gibson les paul kit from ebay and i dont know how it is going to turn out,but if it does yeah! i got a les paul :)
Pedals wouldnt matter the fundamentals of a guitar never leaesthem when you plug into anything....It doesn't sound like a les paul because of your wood-looks like maple neck and ash body---you show me a lp built with those woods-wood is what matters
well, sir, as nice as it looks, i'd say the sound quality is quite lacking, ESPECIALLY if you did actually use Gibson's Les Paul stock p/u's. maybe it was the amp, but i'd say if you were to run that through a decent amp, you'd get a better tone quality, and maybe get it set up and tuned proper.
The sound quality of the recording is crap, and the guitar is run through a distortion pedal, the guitar sounds very similar to a les paul when it is recorded properly. This recording was done with a handycam
Please someone answer this by reply or send me a message or comment... How did it get to be $1100? if i use cheap pickups for like a first act and put it on how much do you think it will cost? i wan to make my own but i don't want to spend $1100 on it. what pickups and stuff do you sugest? and is there a helpful book?
I used the same pick ups as a Les Paul which was very expensive. Things just kept adding up during the making of the guitar. The wood too was also very expensive. There are a lot of places you can cut corners and save your cash, but if you want it done right, you need to put a lot of money into it.
I used a black grain filler. Then the entire body was stained blue. The black was applied using a CNC machine programmed to spray the black edge around the shape of the guitar.
I'm thinking about making an electric guitar similar to the one you made, If you could like, e-mail me with some more in depth details or something, that would be greatly appreciated.
Heyyy, please please please message me back on how you managed to get tat gorgeous paint job! It's the exact way I wanted my woodshop guitar to turn out, but alas it was no success =(
wheres the pride in that? i hand carved my entire guitar. i also designed my own headstock and fretboard inlay. i used a les paul template but tweaked it to my liking. its worth at least 2000. but it cost me about 500. it took me three months to build. but for 2 grand for my first guitar id say isnt bad.
Damn, you made your own neck? I bought mine. Too much to go wrong with laying frets out.Theres only one more thing I needed to put on guitar. An Alarm system. Some bastard ripped it off. I did put a charge with a timer set for ten years though.....
A Strat Type Neck was $175, back in 83' when I bought one. I was just 15, but figured out from Bro's mistake that the distance to twelth fret from Nut, is the same as to the Bridge.adjust your bridge in "Middle" of adjustments to go either way. This is critical, or your guitar will never be in tune at all frets!
The unfortunate matter is I know much more how to play guitars more than I know about them... Where do I start if I wanna build one?
