Hey guys. Frusciante used a capo for the recording of Under the Bridge. The reason why he doesnt use a capo during live performances because staff members back stage gives him his second '62 fender stratocaster that has been tuned down 1 whole step so he could play with out a capo on stage. He does this with Californication too. This is why he plays either californication or under the bridge back to back at most concerts. I know this for a fact because I had VIP passes at Slane Castle in 03.

All of you haters need to shut up. When I was learning "Under the Bridge", I went to this video because all of the other tutors were unreliable. I learned the basics of the intro when I had a capo at the time. I lost my capo and I couldn't play it anymore because I sucked at barre chords. Then I saw Justin Sandercoe's tutorial and it really helped me out. Now, I've been practicing and practicing up to the point where I can play most of the song. Point is: leave the beginners alone. Thank you.

no offense towards this guy or towards the people that wholeheartedly support and fight for this guy, but this is really shit and I`m no saying that after I magically started playing the first time I picked up a guitar but by knowing that this is not a song you necessarily need and have to play in your beginning stages as a guitarist, it would just be a waste of time rather than do the easier stuff that get you going and eventually end up learning it the way it`s meant to be played. ^__^

You can use a capo you just cant play the whole song, you're supposed to barre the second fret and then add the C chord, at least that's the way I was taught to play it.
