think of how long it would take to finish one battle! this makes me think of legend of dragoon, it's great, but the battle system is just damn too slow! Actually no. I started with mystic quest. Then I played what I thought was 3 (but is actually 6) and FF IV. I thought 4 and mystic quest were ok, but then 6 totally blew my mind. Character design is good... for protagonists only! They all look like protagonists imo. none of the characters have an evil look or anything that appeals to me and tells me that they are evil.
the main character looks like a girl too much. the villains looked like heroes. don't misunderstand, they ALL look "cool" and even the supposed to be villains.
try and compare the art of Seymour or the milf loving Sephiroth. Or Prince Luca Blight from Suikoden 2 or Zemekis from Brigandine.
Oh and this game is "element based" etc fire > hits ICE type hard...this game is a game for people that brain bigger than paris holtons or/and for people that can WAIT

1. Battle system is worthless. Two characters stand still and get pounded while you move about with another character. Ever hear of an AI? Compared to .Hack, this battle system is utter failure.
2. Voice acting is so awful. I've seen better acting out of old GI Joe cartoons.
4. ( because the second point counts for double ) The WORST load times for a PS2 game.
5. Often, you have to do the same level twice because your party is split into two teams.

The battle system has its good points, but the wait between attacks is a bit long. That's the reason I became more favorable of using counter attacks. If the leadership meter charged a bit faster, the battles would be more fast paced and enjoyable. That kind of battle sytem would fit the game better, because the storyline does include rapid shifts in the mood and character development of the game.

Skies of Arcadia is one of the best rpgs ever made, so was Grandia II also. I wish that both of these games would be remade. I also loved FF8 as well. Those 3 are my top favorite platform rpgs (platform=on a game console which excludes handheld or pc).
Finally a guy who knows what good RPGs are. Skies of Arcadia is legendary and all the grandias are brilliant especially grandia 3. You forgot to add kingdom hearts as well
Grandia 3 is the next to worst grandia after extreme. I've played all 4 and 1 is definately the best followed by 2 then 3.
The plot in 3 was too cheesy and overdramtic at points. That was mostly the fault of the square side of things though. Same with star ocean 3 DC and Last Hope.
But the Grandia 3 battle system was definetly one of the best bits about the game. Especially the cancelling and the air combos. The music was good as well.
Sure the story wasnt great but gameplay matters a lot as well.

Uhh.... how else would you control characters if not one by one? Even FF characters are controlled one by one. And, where do you find an RPG where all characters are controlled simultaneously? THere are a few, but they run on crappy AI, and are not rly controlled until you toggle toward them. I think you are just new to the TACTIC genre, you know, with grids and stuff (only this game has no grids), you thought this was a traditional RPG stuff genre.
tales of abyss AI isnt anywhere near crappy, tough its one of the few exceptions i can find, sad to say but what you said its almost entirely truth(few games have a good AI)
battle system will get boring but 3D and story isn't that bad. and the game itself is way too long. close 100 hrs of play if you are patient enough then you should get this game. overall 7/10

That looked amazingly boring, and the english dubbing just seemed out of place with how loud it was over the music.
