well, umm. I'm aware that African Americans influenced the blues greatly, and I am forever thankful (My favorite blues artist being Son House). But I do think it's nice that these guys still hang on to and uphold a genre that is so well-formed and simply entertaining. I saw them live last night. I am very glad.

my ears are open! black people have played this music for over one hundred years and for what? so that dumb white kids can listen to this music and think that it's never been done before. anyone heard of mississippi fred mcdowell or lightnin' hopkins? hell, they're not even the first white people to do it. the flat duo jets beat them by twenty years and they did it better and closer to the bone.

How does stating an opinion contrary to your own give you grounds to claim he's on a high horse? I tend to agree with ohiowarmusic. I feel like this band gets a lot of attention for being a modern "blues" band, regardless of the quality of their songs. They don't even play real blues music. It's indie rock with slide guitar. Funny thing is, as simple as blues music is, the music of the Black Keys is even simpler. Most of the time they don't use more than one or two chords per song. Blues uses 3.

maybe you should do some research on blues and its different styles like mississippi hill country blues ie: RL Burnside, Jr.Kimbrough, or even North Mississippi Allstars (Grammy winners). It is defined by short repeating riffs and its very much "real blues." I didnt realize there was a textbook for blues i thought it was just a person expressing emotions through a guitar or any instrument.

It's crazy how many people need to identify with blues music to feel cool. I didn't even say I disliked the group or their music, I just said it wasn't blues, and everyone jumps all over me. If you want to listen to blues to be cool then you should try listening to real blues music instead of picking a band you like and pretending it's blues music. Or better yet, just listen to the music you like and stop worrying about the genre. It's OK to like Indie Rock.
