will we be able to play games from consoles as well as games from the PC? i would love to play some ps3 or xbox game on my pc via OnLive o.O would be epic :)
who buys this crap? im not going to pay a monthly fee just to play a game i buy and not even be able to run it at max setting 720P and low graphics is just plan crap and you dont even get to keep the game forever! why cant people just build a good gaming computer or buy a console? man people always fall for crap like just just because we save a little money up front while in the long run your just going to be shelling out more money.
@rathb18 Its logic and your logic fails. With onlive you never need to upgrade, but with a PC you are forced to shell out over $300 or more each year to keep up with pc gaming. Most of the games are removed (only low played games) after 5 or so year when its released, who cares, as if your going to playing a 5 year old game Ver new games. And as far as 720p, 1080p is coming out before 2012 and most of the games are set to its max settings (not all, mostly rushed port overs).
@dauransx first ive never had to pay more than $300 every 3 to 4 years to max out all my games, and alot of people play older games and anyways if your going to pay $50 for a game and a monthly fee to play it you deserve to be able to keep it forever and play it whenever since you did pay for it. also what about mod support you cant do that with onlive which is the reason alot of people wont buy this why pay $20 for 3 maps when you can just download thousand of user made map and dlc's,
@dauransx plus you have to have super fast internet so you dont have lag which not everyone has my city only has 1.5 mb\s plus fast internet is expensive and what about all the bandwidth caps isp are using now ? heck if you ask me even pc gaming would be cheaper than onlive after you figure the cost for 4 years which is how long a good $1000 gaming pc should last if you build it yourself.
@rathb18 "im not going to pay a monthly fee just to play a game i buy" you do not have to with onlive...."why cant people just build a good gaming computer" because we cant afford the hardware idiot "in the long run your just going to be shelling out more money." really the games are pretty cheap on onlive and a cheaper pc than a gaming rig, doesnt sound expensive to me.
No option for graphic settings, buffer times, OnLive removing old games from their service, multiplayer playability solely with other OnLive subscribers, blocky 720p streams, no modding, 100% online requirement, input lag, and over-dependency on ISP's makes me believe this will be a crash.
onlive is going to make it big guys we, they just need our support, so all subscribe to $10 a mo and it doesent even matter what kind of old comp u have u can have best to nothing grahpics wich is just stunning in my view. Onlive will be the next gen console in the next 1-2 years once they get more games under their belt then ppl will start rushing over. My first time getting on live was scary cuz i have the slowest come in the world. got onlive and im playing top notch games with no lagg.......
I am so psyched about this. I signed up for the UK beta I hope I am picked! Imagine in the years to come any device you own is just an input and the output, all the computation is done miles away and fast! When DIDO comes out (His wireless technology) Doctors will looking through CAT scans whilst they sit on a bus & 3d artists will be looking through their 3d models on 3dmax whilst sitting beside the doctor lol
I much prefer playing my games on discs because at least then, I will have full control of my data. It's my personal copy and I can also do whatever the hell I want with it.
alot of my friends have no clue what onlive is and tons of youtubers are clueless to what the service is. I love using it and i feel that it deserves more attention
@arkangelio However since Onlive streams the game to you, depending on where you are you may get some absolutely atrocious input lag which is unacceptable in most any gaming evinornment casual or otherwise because so many games depend on it. This is a step backwards though as you're basically eventually going to end up paying for BOTH the game AND the streaming so in the end it will end up costing you far less to just buy a normal PC.
@patchhacker They say than within the next 5 years or so internet speeds dramatically improve, which might remove a lot of the lag for you. Also about price, today onlive is new and costs a lot, but in the future as more consumers come in, the price could drop (like all other things). I just hate the fact that onlive is a rental service and that I have to keep paying to play... may be that could change in the future too.
@arkangelio Thats the thing, if it's profitable other people will come to try and fill the void. There is literally NO way Onlive will become a successful monopoly before it has a similar competitor at which point the prices will stagnate. Also the problem isn't internet speeds even you will always get input lag if your games are streamed to you because the game isn't loaded into the machine client side.
@arkangelio u dont hav 2 hav the monthly bill thats 4 some games but it is there by choice buy the games u want when they come out cause eventually they might after sometimes be put on that monthly list of games but until then its all good
The Game Industry and Game Developers should use this technology with there video games, I want to see the next "LEVEL" in gaming, I'm a PC gamer!
Intel is going to bring out in Q4 2011, LGA 2011 Socket, X79 Express Chip Set. RockStarGame put this technology in LA. Norie and it's on Console! I think PC is ready NOW for this Technology! Game Developer Please use this Technology, remember Move forward NOT backwards!!!
Why did EA back out? To start their own dull, slow game download site called Origin. Maybe they will come around when they see what they're losing out on. Ubisoft knows what's up!
I love the service, I've had it for a year. But that universal controller is, by far, the most exciting thing for me. Hook my Mac up to my TV and it's like having a game console
In a world where bandwidth is free, this is great. But I can't imagine streaming a full day of 1080p gaming binge without having to pay the price when I get my ISP bill. I can clearly see the possibilities though.
@S13v7n I've been playing from Spain with a 6Mb dsl connection, and I admit its not as perfect as a console, but you can't beat 10$ a month for 58 games!!!
It's a shame ISPs are being such dicks about bandwidth caps. I would love to stream everything from a data center if only the ISPs wouldn't kill me with their bills.
@S13v7 This is why I don't respond to comments on the internet. You didn't read my response. I clearly said without a subscription you can demo, rent or buy games. I didn't say you could play full games for free. You said the service required a subscription. I'm saying it doesn't. Yes, you have to give them some sort of money (rent, buy or subscription) to play full games, but if you didn't expect that I don't know what you're looking for. Saying "You need a subscription" is not true.
Also, when you pay to buy a game, you dont get an actually copy of it like Steam. You just own the rights to stream to their server to play the game.
This is worse than Steams Cloud, where you buy a game and can physically own it and install on as many computers as possible. People will still buy consoles because they want to physically be able to retain what they purchased.
How rude, dude's giving a presentation and someone's shouting "NOT TRUE". Show me the console that can do that video clip realtime. Disagreeing is one thing, but shouting out interruptions is just plain low class.
thats awsome cloud is the way its going to go but never will replace the home pc computing side because of all the restrictions that could be inforced.
Tried onlive lastnight in UK and it runs superbly which amazed me as it must be running from the us servers,im 40 years young and this tech reminds me of that funny feeling inside i had ,the first time i saw a neo geo screen shot in 1989.This tech has huge potential,I wish you all the best in this venture.
@PSIDefenseUp If you have ever tried it you would see that you wont have any of those problems. I have had it for almost 2 months now and not a single problem, even when im streaming HD netflix.
I like the idea, but todays internet service providers can't keep up with this.

Also, all these amazing technologies for better graphics are lost in the compression to send the video over the internet.
@Maclolp What he means when he say 10gbps connection is that lets say you connect to the service using 6Mbits DSL(around 600kb/sec dl), when you use the browser on onlive, every webpage would be loading on a 10gbit connection(1gb/sec dl) because that's what the servers are connected to so basically everything inside the onlive browser would load instantly whereas at home lets say a 1080p video would need to buffer.
@Maclolp "Even the fastest internet connections will have a 100+ms latency which is not acceptable in competitive gaming"
I used to be a competitive gamer, played in clanbase etc. But the gaming world as changed. It's not about competitive gaming, it's casual gaming that sells nowadays, example: Angry Birds.
As soon as this is available for my ipad I'll buy some games and play hours and hours per week.

@i0olilovesalexa Starcraft 2 sold 2,000,000 copies upon release day, that is all about competetive gaming.
