  • any chance of getting a transcription of this?

  • @huskydline09 Yes - through the generous efforts of another You Tube user, you can get the transcription of this one at the Molto Allegro website. Go to the site, and click on the "Bonus" section, where you'll find this song with a number of others available for download.

  • @pianojohn113 that's great! thanks a lot!

  • Thanks for your videos. Been playing by ear for over 50 years, transposing everything to easier chords. Finally trying to learn everything in correct key. Your vids really help. In my next life, I'm gonna forgo the shortcuts.

  • @pointlessgames I like the challenge of the original keys.. glad the videos have helped you!

  • fuck piano is hard :(

  • you are a wonderful example of the positives of the internet,

    thank you so much

  • @dvdrplus You're entirely welcome, very glad you like the vids!

  • i guess theres 15 rolling stones fans?

  • Thanks - in 60 minutes I could play this "roughly" - now its just a matter of practice. Thanks again.

  • @hillarion That's great, congratulations on picking it up so quickly. Enjoy!

  • this is the absolute pinicle of piano teaching - chears :)

  • @MrJJMcLean Good to know it worked for you!

  • Thanks a ton! Sometimes you go a little to fast but it was still really good.

  • @rockerchick4563 Glad you liked it, thanks. :-)

  • its almost similar to dream on by areosmith.

  • @projectdelta1000 That would make Dream on similar to this song :p

  • @SgtMustang lol your right :p

  • It's awesome how you use your thumb knuckle to play the G and A notes together. I wouldn't have thought of that lol.

  • @aranurland lol. yeah, when you run out of fingers, sometimes you have to get creative. :-)

  • the line - "sleep pretty darling, do not cry"

on the word "cry", instead of playing D-E-F and A with the low D octave, I prefer to play A-E and D with the D octave, bringing the E down to a D and finally a C (to make an F chord). It's less dissonant, seems to follow the orchestration a little better, and I think it's what Sir Paul played live when I saw him at Yankee Stadium.

Great tutorial though, thanks so much!

  • @ThunderPower Correction: I mean A-E and F with the D octave, making a full Dm chord.

  • @ThunderPower I think that can work well too.. it's always good to try new chord/note combinations, and if they sound good, use them!

  • Absoluteley superb John. I love this tune.

  • @HWD1958 It's great fun to play, isn't it?

  • Legato! :)

  • Diffidently one of your better teachings. I dont read music or anything but Ive sort of learned and so sometimes I think you go a little fast in your video switch I understand since your trying to make it easier by putting it all in one video instead of two parts. But sometimes you are a little hard to follow and go fast But this video was ALOT better than some of your others;)

  • You can't sing

  • great work. only in the 'i will sing a lullaby' bit, Paul doesn't go back to the G before the returning to the C. it just hangs on the B and D me thinks? small point though, you're a legend!

  • @ohfasuree The bass notes go G-A-B-G-C, or at least that's what I'm hearing. But staying on the B and D certainly won't hurt!

  • Ohhhh I must learn this!!! :D

    Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

  • Thank you so much. Most beautiful song ever.

  • 7:22 F A C E !

  • amaizing

  • Where on earth can you find the sheet music for this for free???

  • @Itchtaca You can go to the molto allegro website for the sheets to this one (see my notes on my main channel page for details).

  • I did it, I uploaded Golden Slumbers! Now see what I meant before :)

  • Master John Please do 'I Will' that would absolutely blow my mind :)

  • Thanks for that! I've been trying to get the sheet music for that (without paying, I can never find good sheet music even when I do pay) so I had to resort to scribing it as you play it. Now for me to play it over and over (whilst singing badly) and piss off all my neighbours.

  • @SecretNinjaVon That's the best way to do it. If the neighbors complain, you're a true musician!

  • Love the lesson... just wish your instrument was tuned correctly.

  • Try leaving the right hand rhythmical pattern unchanged as in the verse at the chorus while adjusting only the bass part's beat, it's easy to do and sounds great. I should know, I've finished covering this one in November.

I'm going to record it next, so perhaps you'll feel the difference. :)

  • This song makes me almost cry :'(

  • I can´t thank you enough, pianoJohn. I´ll remember you as my first piano teacher. Easy ;-)

  • thanks man, i really i can learn to play piano with your videos..!!

  • thanks once again. another great tutorial : )

  • Keep up the good work!

  • 13 people missed the like button :P

  • Another great piano tutorial.I love that song. I now that its a really guitar song, and that it will not sound so good on the piano, but can you make a tutorial of run for your life. And thanks again for the great tutorial

  • @raza960 Actually, Run For Your Life sounds pretty good on the piano as well. Glad you enjoyed this one. :-)

  • @raza960 ur an idiot, song is a piano song!

  • Dear @pianojohn113

how does the rhythm go at the "golden lumbers fill your eyes" part?

    many thanks

    Paul (ironic right?)

  • @swimmingguy411 The rhythm stays on 4/4, but the notes come in on the half beat (or quarter beat, somewhat syncopated). It's a little tricky there, for sure!

  • So Piano John, explain your genius to me.

  • would you please make a tutorial for (I Want To) Come Home by Paul McCartney

  • You have sexy hands...

  • Thanks once again John, I love this song but could never quite grasp it until I watched your tutorial... You are a star!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Do you take requests?. If so I would love to see a tutorial of "The End Of The End" from Paul's "Memory Almost Full" album please.

  • @1968wch Great song suggestion, thanks!

  • having never had a piano lesson in my life, I've learned this song completely in just over 3 hours. you are an awesome teacher.

  • Dear pianojohn113,

Can you tell me how you tune your piano to the beatles style and what type of piano it is?

    Thanks,

    Cooper

  • @Mcccooper1 The type of piano I have is a Boston GP-163. I don't really tune it to fit the Beatles style, it's really just more about how the songs are translated into piano from guitar.

  • Hey PianoJohn Are you evr going to do a tutorial of Money That's what I want?

  • @BassMisteress101 I'm not sure if I'll be doing "Money" or not, since it wasn't an actual Beatles composition (just a cover).. but I'll keep it in mind.

  • @rockermanmatt Yes, in fact I almost recorded that one on the previous session, but ran out of time. It should be coming up soon.

  • @joshtbailey Good idea! I did play the little piano intro on that song once. :-)

  • Jealous guy.. :'(

  • John

I just want to thank you.

You do not know this, but your tutorials have made me succed in the Fab 4: A Tribute.

This is a concert we made at school.

I would show it to you but our crappy camarographer made a crappy job.

Anyways, you have made me succeed as the first pianist in the history of our school.

    Thank You!

  • @Dircio007 That's wonderful, thanks for letting me know! Congratulations to you for your success and for being the first pianist in your school.. awesome! :-)

  • :O I am about to learn one of the most beautiful songs that was ever written.. I can't thank you enough!!! :D

  • May I make sheet music of your arrangement?

  • John, you pretty much have taught me how to play piano. I been studying the songwriting secrets of the beatles and coupled with your lessons Ive learned not only how to play but the theory of these great songs. Thank You.

  • Amazing, thank you very much john :D you're my cyber-master

  • You even sound like Paul McCartney when you sing this thanks once again!

  • @pianojohn113 please do. i learned so much from this video! im desperate to learn shine a light! and i dont have a teacher or anything so im desperate to learn that one! its unfindable!!!!

  • you're doing a great thing posting these tutorials pianojohn! you've really understood the purpose of communicative power that the internet is all about. thanks a lot!

  • @pilsk08 My pleasure, pilsk08. I hope you enjoy playing these songs as much as I do.

  • @pianojohn113 another thing i like is that you seem to enjoy abbey road as much as i do. best. record. ever.

  • your awesome. thanks a lot for these!

  • i love the song....thank you john

  • thank you sir :) can you do shine a light by the rolling stones

  • hey thanks man really

  • Wow simply thanks... This is so awesome. ;)

    Especially the fills cheers!!!

  • Thanks for showing me how to play this "Abbey Road" classic. Five stars sums up this piano lesson ! Yours vocals sound exactly like Mc Cartney's.

  • Could you make a tutorial of The Beatles - When I'm Sixty Four? PLEASE.

  • Thank you, man. You are the best =)

  • Do you know of any sites to get piano sheet music from, or do you figure things out from ear?

Great video by the way! I am slowly but steadily learning piano!

  • Thanks, glad you liked it. There are several good sheet music sites, like musicnotes, which let you download sheets at only a few bucks each. I do learn most songs by ear, but refer to sheets where I need to.. just a word of caution, though, the sheet music that's out there is usually not very accurate, in my opinion. They're decent guides, but many are not very good. Hal Leonard seems to have the best transcriptions.

  • @pianojohn113

Thank you very much! I came across that site, but forgot to add that I wanted free sheet music. I suppose this is not available in local spots on the web. I will check out Hal Leonard though. Thanks again!

  • ありがとうございました。

    Thank you very much.

I am leaning a lot from you.

  • If I had a piano teacher like you, my piano would be better.

    You are an excellent teacher.

    Thanks.

  • This is a great tutorial pianojohn113... You have no idea how grateful i would be if you could make a tutorial of the song "Jealous Guy.. Thanks for this tutorial.. I love it

  • Amazing! You are a great teacher!

  • awesome thanks man :D

  • Great explanation! Thank you very much

  • god damnit theres no sound

  • Dude, you're a genius. I'm a huge Beatles fan and a piano player (I mostly play chord style and sing). Do you have one for "You Never Give Me Your Money"?

  • Thanks, Siberianhusky89, glad you like the vids. I do have "You Never Give Me Your Money" on my channel.. check the Beatles Tutorials playlist... (Just know that it's got lots of chords in it, and I went through them kind of quickly.. it was before I had the capability to put on-screen graphics, too, unfortunately).

  • @pianojohn113

For years I played this on C and Dm, ha ha yeah I am not exactly brilliant on the Keyboard. My sonic machine of choice is the Guitar.

  • @pianojohn113 You are very welcome my friend. I wish you lived in my street, or vice versa. I could use your talents to assist me in my songs. Have a great Monday Dude.

  • Man, you good, Baby

  • my favorite part about your videos: you teach how to play EXACTLY what the song is...not the freaky arrangements people make up which incorporate the the vocals into notes...i hateee those. thanks so much!!

  • Glad you like the videos, basketcase5295, thanks for the comment!

  • man, you rule

  • wow, thank you so much! i'm not a piano player, and i just learned to play this song in under an hour because of your tutorial!

  • Hey, that's great, to learn it under an hour.. nice job! Keep up the good work. :-)

  • This lesson has renewed my passion for the piano. Now I'm using your cool lessons on a daily basis.

Also, thanks Piano John, for saving me hundreds of euros on piano lessons. You happen to teach the songs that I want to play on piano. I am eternally grateful for your excellent professional tuition. Keep on posting !

  • That's great, yuftf, I'm very glad these videos have been helpful to you! I'll post more as time permits. I appreciate the comment.. keep up the good work on the piano!

  • Awesome tutorial, John. One question: on the word "sleep," Paul sings a G, but you suggest playing a G-sharp. Seems weird. Is that correct?

  • Thanks, glad you liked it!

Yes, you're right about Paul singing a G natural there, although I think he slides down to it quickly from either an A or the G-sharp. The insturmental chord, though, is still an E major.. when Paul hits the G natural, the two together form a kind of E7#9 chord, which they used to nice effect on a few songs on Abbey Road. Very cool.

  • Got it, thanks. It is cool, but man it makes hitting that G all the harder.. :)

  • john-

you're amazing. huge help. with this video i learned it in under an hour. you've really made a difference for me. thanks so much, and keep it up!

  • Glad it was helpful!

  • Comment removed

  • I don't hear anything!! Other videos are working fine... What's the dealyo, homey?

  • The older videos were uploaded in mono, unfortunately.. If you open up the other audio channel it will be there.

  • I've always wanted to be able to play this Beatle piano classic - now I can ! Thanks for posting.

P.S. You sing just like Mc Cartney.

  • Thanks, zincthi! This is one of my favorite Beatles tunes to play on the piano. Glad it was helpful!

  • One of the easiest and the most emotionally fufilling songs to play!

  • @ruskybalboa easy??

  • @Piki444 Well, compared to some of the other Beatles stuff and Beethoven, yes. ;)

  • Awesome tutorial. Beautiful song. Wonderful lyrics and great tune. Thanks for posting!

  • dude, you taught me how to play piano...now i play in my youth band!

  • whoever didn't rate this five stars is an asshole.

  • Thanks! That's great!! But it would be nice if you sang a little louder, just so we can follow it with the lyrics... :)

  • This just goes to show what a genius McCartney was.

  • is...

  • Of course, I stand corrected.

  • huh?

  • it's in d minor surely?

  • C major.

  • No...The first chord in the Beatles version is D minor7 and the chorus moves to B flat major

  • correction, chorus in F major then to B flat

  • It doesn't matter what chord it starts on; it RESOLVES to C every time. I have no idea where you're getting Bb from. The song is unambiguously in C.

  • Thanks so much-ur a great teacher!

  • how do you learn the songs by the beatles??? ¬¬ i want your sheets!

  • thanks! you re good teacher

  • i hope you keep doing these. they are so helpful and fun to play. thanks so much!!!

  • Love your lessons!

And the fact that you have so many Beatles songs is great. I love the Beatles so much. I wish I lived during their reign. Well, anyways, thanks a lot.

  • Glad to do it for you.. enjoy!

  • How about giving us a lesson on the 'the great gig in the sky'. It's on youtube a couple of places...but they lack your teaching skills. Thanks!

  • Yeah, Pink Floyd had some good piano tunes.. I may add that one to the list. Thanks!

  • 15 years ago I would have paid someone $20 an hr. for music lessons. Thank you You Tube! And thank you to pianojohn113.

  • Thanks! Glad you like the vids!

  • nice one!!!

  • for those who want to skip the preview it starts at 1:17

  • Thaaaanks ! You're a fabulous teacher, I always watch your videos and learn the Beatles songs in one day

  • Thanks! Glad you liked it. :-)

  • YAY!! Thank you, you're an awesome teacher, I just learned this song and Let it be in one day!!! youre the best!!!!!

  • Thanks! Glad you liked it.

  • What a great thing to share!! your time and talent for free, I'm very grateful!

  • Happy to do it for you. :-)

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!I can do this but not from sheet music { I 'm really happy you teach this way.

I was just going to ask this but found the answer after checking out your channel page:

Do you have any DVDs of your video lessons available for purchase?

A: No, I do everything for free right here. I really believe that music should be shared and learned by everyone who wants to play. If my videos add to your musical enjoyment or help you to become a better musician, then it's worth it for me.

  • IT WOULD BE GENIAL IF YOU CAN PUT SOUND,

  • Thanks man!!!

    Great job!!!

Can you teach "Ob-la-di- Ob-la-da" please????

  • The sound is working again, if no one has told you. Awesome tutorial, by the way =)

  • no sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did you get the sound back?

  • no =( your videos are great and a song a really want to learn dosent work

  • I don't understand after which chord you play the "fill(er)" at 8:40. I think you play the A D F chord twice then you start the filler but I'm note sure.

  • I played the Dm chord first, then broke it up into the fill.. I actually hit two wrong notes the first time I played it, but semi-corrected it the second time.
