My brother's band, the California Suns, recorded this. The backstory is that it was written for Jan & Dean to record--sort of a response to Little Old Lady From Pasadena. But Jan Berry had his horrible car accident and they were unable to record it, so my brother's band got pulled in. The association with Mary Ellen Jams & Jellies actually came *after* the song was recorded--licensing deal of some kind. The song was not created for the ad campaign.
This was inspired by a popular series of commercials for "Mary Ellen Jams" which ran for years on just about every L.A. radio station in the early '60's. Love the references to L.A. area supermarket chains Safeway and Thriftimart!

Yes, it is a picture of your favourite Miss Marple. Lovely song, Rick.
