If Dire Straits had played the songs for On Every Street the way they did for the tour, they could have had another epic album on their hands, rather than merely a very very good one. But then, perhaps that was a little deliberate: Mark Knopfler has made no secret of the fact that he did not want to go through the Brothers in Arms pandemonium again. If the album was a little understated, then they could concentrate on the (as it turned out) farewell tour and not have the media on their case.

Listen up pop music posers, this is how you play music., and if you want to write music you could do much worse than to imitate Knopfler's sarcasm. Mark wasn't a devotee of laser lights, fancy costumes or smoke machines, but you don't need those tricks when you have the musicianship of Dire Straits. I got to see this tour in 92 and it would have been perfect but Industrial Disease wasn't on the set list.

he's in a trance, he concentrates though, some criticize him for being so cool, unmoving like, but his chords are so complex, he was such a perfectionist, listen to his TIMING, and the volume ranges, unbelievably sensual to the entire mood, he's a great, could have been greater, wish they were around many more years of more songs.
