  • Tucker married Peerce's sister.

  • This is probably from the RCA recording of Student Prince w/ Peerce

and Roberta Peters. Peerce was 59 when he recorded the role of the

    ardent, young prince.

Peerce and Richard Tucker married sisters. Both tenors had beautiful

voices, knew how to use them, and lasted for decades. In the

theater or on recordings, they sounded equally fine.

Some tenors, like Corelli, Vickers and Gedda, sounded much better

in the theater than on recordings.

  • VinylToVideo: you were too kind to point out that Peerce would sing like this live on television and did this very selection on the Tonight show several times, would Lanza have sounded as good? Not!!! Thank you for the posting.

  • He rolls his Rs beatifully!

  • @Salable5 I noticed that immediately. I wish the tempo had not been so fast that he couldn't really put more color in the phrases. Still, beautifully done--and not just for those Rs.

  • An excellent, sprightly rendition. His diction was exemplary. Less of a vocal showcase than the well-known Lanza recording. (nothing to do with Peerce.) Thanks for posting! :)

  • Lanza was good in this operetta I will agree but remember Peerce is 60 years old here singing what, a 20 year old character? His voice doesn't show his age, only his perfection of the voice that you only get with years of experience does. That's even more impressive to me!

  • Indeed, very impressive. Thanks again.
