  • 7:00 That awkward moment when you realize he only has half of each eyebrow

  • I am sooo ready to become a cyborg. Just embrace it baby!!

  • I guess you could say..

    0:25 *slides down visor.

It's gonna be a "ruff" day.

    YEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHH!

  • As usual, Bill Joy is full of shit. Artificial Intelligence *is* clearly our destiny. Soft and squishy is a nice starting point. It pairs well with the evolutionary paradigm up to a point. But once you have robust intelligence, what's the point of soft and squishy? We'll never be able to compete. Once the chromium cat is out of the bag, it's out of the bag. At all scales, from macro to nano. In all forms. Better than us. More robust. And very much *our* progeny.

  • If this robots were made, a lot of people are going to lose their jobs.

  • Oh, yeah, thats a good argument. "we will be making THEM serve US." If they are complicated enough to think on their own, we are screwed if they dont have morality. and even then, if they make them like people, everyone has their own sense of morality. There is 100 things im not mentioning here that can go wrong. I vote for programming good morality and love in everyone of them. Don't want them to end up like GLaDOS, do you?

  • @MrSpidermanroxx 'Oh, yeah, thats a good argument. "we will be making THEM serve US."'

Well, the point that we need to deal with is that although it's taken a long time to get here, artificial life forms are about to become far better adaptive than are we. An uncomfortable proposition, I admit. Speaking of morality (which you mentioned) do we have the right to stifle a smarter, more nimble life forms? Think about that, as you consume your morning bacon tomorrow at breakfast.

  • Why should a robot revolution ever be possible? Why would we build a robot that WANTS to destroy us?

  • IROBOT! lol xD

  • I don't want to ever become a robot, or cyborg. I've lived a human, will live a human, and will die a human!

  • why don't we program our own cyber technology in us

  • I hope they don't make a Chuck Norris robot... Some robots say I can destroy the earth with one laser but Chuck Norris Robot can Destroy the universe by disconnecting a wire.

  • How frightening, just imagine if bubba in US prisons are hardcore now... there might be a future with a ... cyborg enhanced bubba with an oversized electric prod for a john

  • why would they put an oxygen tank on a robot?

  • hausehold robot AKA: I ROBOT.

and btw humans will become cyborgs one way or an other.

  • With the current architecture of computers, robots will probably never outsmart us. Yea sure, they'll know more stuff, but brains are extremely good at learning. A robot still needs programming and that's bad.

It's more likely for the near-future that we implant our brains in a mechanical body. We will have superior strength and sense, and still our dominating brain. Then we just have to find a way our brain won't die and we'll live forever. Robots will be our slaves for boring stuff.

  • @chikkenstorm Thats what they said in another part of that video. The programming gets much too complex so they are looking for a way that a robot/computer learns on it's own.

A real AI will outsmart us. We've been warned by so many SciFi Books, movies, Series, games and concepts that an AI is always a bad Idea but "we can do it better" (We who cant even take care for each other^^)

  • 8:13 This guy never heard of hyperspace

  • @tiagom135 warp dive is hyperspace

  • is dis good or bad ?

  • So after we put our minds into the machine, does that mean we'll never die? What if the machine breaks down?

  • @AvaSimmons Back up! lmao...

But for real though...I expect to live upto 150 years if not longer!

  • if people be came half robots we would not need robots we could make it so we live for 200 years or more , or make it so nothing can kill us , but if there would be different kinds of robots i think the one guys would have the most is a BJ robot lol XD

  • one thing is certain, future robots will have "Made in Japan"

  • @smarter1then3u or made in holland....or...how many countrys are capble of building this machines..how many companies are building this tech...you dont know..not every one is walking the FOR SALE LINE...

  • @smarter1then3u US military has been developing and researching robotics just as or more advanced than the civilian company jap bots :)

  • @lmos26 u can say the same about russia who's always a step ahead of US

  • Imagine robo rapers :)))

  • We are going to half to nerf robots because they are to OP

  • I'd say we should have to fundamental kinds of robots: cyborgs (humans with robotic parts) and "slave"-bots.

  • 2:09

must give huggies. MUST GIVE HUGGSIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seriously that thing is demanding hugs

  • yeah I ams ure they will be proud of their human achestors, just like we are proud of monkeys...

  • @utkua we didnt evolve from monkeys or apes just a common ancestor named homo erectus i know the name sounds sort of wrong

  • @mariofanoo1 I know but using ape word was not emphasising enough my point. :)

  • @mariofanoo1

i hope you know what erect means

  • @Zanmatt2g i do

  • -.- Robots are a bad idea...

  • Who else if it wasn't for Asimo?

  • "As they realize their own potential, how long before they cast us aside?"

    "We are Geth"

"I am Legion for we are many"

  • remind me of Irobot and astroboy lol

  • If robots do become part of our daily lives (which I really hope doesn't happen), I don't want them to look human, it'd be disturbing. Keep them like robots, mechanical and easily discernible from humans..............

  • @terminalfrost92 Lol, afraid of progress much?

  • @DONTdoSMACK It's the look that creeps me out. Presently, as I said to your equally retarded friend madicelp0, most are humanoid in appearance, but fall in the uncanny valley area when it comes to feelings and interactions. I have no issue with the progression of technology. I'll be okay with all of it if they turn out like the robots/androids from Bicentennial Man, though!

  • @terminalfrost92 k, the cave is just out in the forest, no one will stop you. Come back in a few days and report of your experiences and then we can all have a laugh when we look back at your stupid comments about how technology is dangerous.

  • @madichelp0 I never said that technology was dangerous. I just find something artificial appearing to be human a weird thought. Do you know what the "Uncanny Valley" is? This is where the majority of androids lie. Once again, I never remember saying anything about technology being dangerous. I work in programming, technology is the world to me, but the outside of the android is what creeps me out the most. Reading through a comment a few times works wonders on having a steadfast arguement, btw.

  • @terminalfrost92 I see your point. Yea I suppose they actually seem quite creepy right now...

  • Hah, as soon the robots become to overpowered im joining them as a cyborg :D

  • I know how to do something, Raytheon, Google, IBM and even Honda have not achieved yet. I have contacted only 2 companies so far, Raytheon and Google TV, but still waiting to hear back from them.....

  • 4:09 looks like a stalker to me

  • -.- Robots are a bad idea...

  • Put a rifle in its hands and let it march around the mall!!

  • .... We are the borg! Resistance is futile!

  • @kancer101 "You will become one of the Cybermen! YOU WILL BE CONVERTED!"

  • Robots can't out evolve us, it's like suggesting that a jigsaw puzzle will finish itself and no longer need us.

  • @ClaustrophobicVamp Well, if that jigsaw puzzle could learn, experience, understand, mature - etc... then it should be able to finish itself.

  • Go as robots? Fuck that! Let's go as cyborgs! Just get rid of all the stuff we can't fix with nanomachines after a while in our super advanced kick-ass spaceship laboratory, and replace them with cool technostuff, like um... I don't know... 20xzoom x-ray laser-eyes that change colour, or carbon nanotube skeletons or swiss armyknife-like multitool bionic arms!! Now THAT would be awesome! :)

  • @NeuroTheory

Yeah I'm sure that our illnesses and aging fixing nanotechnology is in the not so far future. Might ven be there faster than intelligent space travel capable androids. So, humans will go to the other star systmes, too. As will our children, the life forms we shall create.

  • @NeuroTheory Cyborgs rule!

  • if we could make the ns4 robots from i, robot that would be awesome

  • One guy in this video said something about giving robots our values, honestly thats not really a good idea either, I mean has that taken a look around lately?

  • if we use robots to do everything for us, guess what? THE WORLD WILL BECOME FAT AND LAZY! humans need the activity of washing, cleaning, and doing jobs or we'll be the laziest people ever! we need that physical activity in daily life!

  • I don't need a robot to clean up after me...

I HAVE LEGS AND I WILL USE THEM!

  • We build the robots so that they would work for us. But if they get smarter than us we are gonna work for them.

  • 7:45: two generations later, a giant robot tears apart human skulls.

  • wait...no sex?

  • I could just imagine robots building other robots...

  • I don't want that line to be erased...It's nice for Granny and Grandpa though... what if there was a massive hack and the terrorist decided to mess with them?

  • that movie aound 5:00 - 6:00 whats it called?

  • Terminator 2

  • Terminator 2

  • 6:00 that guy plucks his eyebrows WAY too much.

  • don`t get me having to say: i told you so" in about 50 yrs.

BTW having robots thinging as humans doesn`t mak it save.(even humans can go crazy)

  • wow those "siencetists" vigured it all out by then selfs.

robots will be/become dangerous, like they said they need rules like: I-robot.

  • strong AI is the next step in the evolution and complexification of the universe

  • Obviously these ppl didn't see irobot..lol fu*k that . they give birth?? lmao whatever!!

  • Why not merge man and machine?

  • @laitela01 well that will be the future. and that's why it will never be a machine-humans war like it's shown in Terminator. the border between biology and technology will not be defined, so we will all be one. sounds strange, but this is how it will be and we can't do anything to change it :\

  • it would be cool if they could play sports

  • are they coming to america?

  • Where's Chii? D:

  • @astr323 chicago ? maybe lol

  • Thats not future ....it's end of mankind

  • @tharangafo

    Not mutually exclusive

  • @tharangafo

And the beginning of something better.

  • robots are not odditys for me... i have 2: an original roomba and a 600 series roomba

  • i hope I can still get a Commodore Amiga then

  • Hell yes, firefighting is the perfect line of work for a mechanical man!

  • I remember the old cliche,.."GET A HORSE!"

  • Did they name Asimo after the sci-fi author Issac Asimov?

  • @0.25 Stay here ill be back

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you- one person on this page with some actual understanding of machines.

  • The only thing we should do is giving them laws they can't break. But not extreme laws.

One law is enough. Thou shall not yourself do anything that can hurt other robots or any humans neither shall you do anything that will prevent humans their freedom to do anything they want.

  • ok they will not understand english mate, and how does it know that its hurting someone? what if it doesnt know? what if it thinks its not.

they cant make them 100% safe its just impossible

and wow this video went really far, do we even have something that can learn and think without the "do this if that"

  • If something goes wrong with robots we could create a nuclear shielded facility where all robots and machines could be turned off or destroyed by pressing a button. That would prevent Matrix or Terminator like events.

  • Why do we need to make robots? We have been able to survive for thousands of years without them, so what is the excuse to make them do our work, etc... Now. I don't see sence in that. Well i see some sence in cyborgs, but no sence in robots.

  • robots will have feelings like humans. when it not only steel, when it has also chemical functions. i see no difference in brain and chips. both are only elements of atoms ...

  • The fact that the projected replacement of humans has been the goal of the Elite. But what if AI kicks in and decides that the Elite are the ones to be replaced.

  • this could have been programmed by terrorists those assholes

  • unlikely - because terrorists don't create anything - they're just destroying things and lifes others have build.

Bu I understand the undertone of your statement... and it's true: All this techie stuff could become a grave danger to us.

  • terrorist can get anything should they have the money and the connections, including programmers willing to work for them.

even so, thank's only the least of the problems of AI

  • Robots can never outsmart us. Its a rule of nature. No one can create a thing better than himself. A robot will never be intelligent enough to make another robot more intelligent than itself. Cause it does not know what is more intelligent. Thats why macro evolution is a foolish concept.

  • Foolish creationist.

  • I disagree. Even if I can't prove it, I very much believe that as technology continues to evolve and processing power in computers grow, sooner or later there will be an artificial mind that is smarter than us humans. Even if a computer didn't have an imagination, it has endless patience and can find out things thru simulation much more efficiently than any human.

  • My friend you have a lot to learn about how computers, or how humans work. Robot are machines made to make our lives convenient, thats all. Robots will never be able to reason/ "think" like humans. They can only "mimic" human emotions/ feelings but underneath it all its just coded instructions.

  • Actually I've been a programmer for years and I'd at least like to believe that I know the platform I work on.

Computers are indeed only devices to make our lives more convenient. They also can be programmed to behave however the programmer wants.

Intelligence is basically the ability to solve problems efficiently. Emotions aren't really required.

  • Instead of ruling out things as "absolutely impossible" without the absolute knowledge needed to make the statement, I'd like to keep an open mind. Just like life outside Earth - I don't really care either way, but I think saying there's no life outside this planet is as self-centered and irresponsible as when people used to think that the sun circles the earth.

  • Sure anybody can write a basic program and claim to be a programmer for years. I wrote my first program in 5th grade, does that make me the authority on robotics? In your earlier comment you implied...no you actually literally said that computers can develop a mind of their own which is "patient". That is AI. We are not arguing intelligence here but the ability of Robots to become sentimental beings who will eventually demand equal rights, which is rubbish.

  • Maybe I chose my words poorly before. After all, english isn't my first language, I don't use it much and the space here is ever so little.

The main idea behind my stand is that the brain is only a gob of meat that has wiring all over to process different signals from the nervous system. I don't see why it couldn't be duplicated artificially at some point.

I think the burden of proof is on you right now.

  • You have to consider the difference between humans and robotics. Human brain is the result of billions of years of evolution and serves a purpose which is to survive and pass on our genes. Its the basic law of "self preservation" in nature, which doesn't have any importance independently of the individual himself. So unless the robots have a very good reason (a need) to live and survive, they have no reason to be alive.

  • Curse these small comment boxes.

Although I don't regard it as actual intelligence, networking is a very powerful tool that computers use a lot more efficiently than us.

The brain has also enormous processing power, but most of it don't get used at all or it's wasted on the huge overhead of human language and "useless" information that make up our personalities and emotions.

  • You got that right, worst part of youtube is these small comment limits.

To follow up my comment, again that is all good when we don't consider we don't even have the slightest clue on how to tell a Robot that it exists. We can only program it to mimic human behavior, but they will never have actual "feelings". There is an interesting project on such "networking and ever evolving brain" concept. Look up "polyworld" on youtube. Its the brain child of Apple Computer Scientist Larry Yaeger.

  • Polyworld looks really interesting. I have to see more videos on better time. Thanks for the tip.

  • Humans are cheaper and more fun to produce

  • @ARMSTRONGBLUES Yet they are more defiant and less practical. :P

  • @ARMSTRONGBLUES Hell yeah!

  • seems like the scientist think that when people grow old and going die, we can somehow plant our brain into a humanoid

and live on for much longer!

  • Actually the soul concept is of importance here. What 'we' are is what our 'soul' is. Its our soul which uses our brain to think and control our body. Our brain has been made so complex by God that only our soul knows how to use it. No robot can ever reach the complexity of our brain.

  • who is god?? do we see god everyday? we see the people that existed with us today, i can understand beliefs but when it comes down to science, biology, technology, it is clear god didn't create us!! believe it or not, in the early 1900's scientist keep a dog's head alive and active without the body, u should look into it!

  • Well responding to ur statement about the dog's head, by now the scientists should have been able to keep human heads alive and active. 100 years man. But scientists are not able to find a way to stop the aging process and they cant keep human head alive. Why do all living things have to die??? Can't they evolve to live forever. Can't u see the organization in this universe. All living things or rather all things have a fixed lifespan.

  • Scientists have improved a great deal on human life. We live longer than we used to. They haven't crack the code of death, I can't say whether we will ever be able to live forever because we have only scratched the surface in the field of Biology, It might be impossible to defeat death. There is an excellent video on youtube about the subject, look up Richard Dawkins & Randolph Nesse (part 5). The purpose of life (biologically) was to reproduce, not to live forever.

  • Can't leave this one alone either.

How do you define when the scientists should've discovered something?

I really hate when you people give arbitary deadlines for things that haven't been discovered yet and then argument with "becuz ur sciens iz late, we win". Also why does it always have to be your religion that's correct? There are tons of legit religions out there.

If all living things had naturally at least a very long lifespan, it would slow down evolution and possibly cause overpopulation.

  • i beg to differ, i believe the complextiy of our brain created your illusion of the soul. science has yet to discover the full workings of our bodies. through scientific progress, we may one day be able to replicate a "soul" (however one might define it).

  • Things like soul, god and et cetera are just things people made up to explain the things they couldn't explain rationally - just like you might make up a story to satisfy young children's curiosity. Also it's easier to make people behave when threatened with the eternal fires of doomy hell.

Christianity is probably mainly so widespread because of the crusades and other enforcing.

Also because of christianity the progress of science was slowed down for quite a long time.

  • ASIMO YEA!

  • Robots wont take over the world because people made them to obey rules.Just at least treat them nice

  • Even self-aware, sentient AI will (most likely) let us co-exist, knowing that it is much better to work together than to try and kill us off. Eventually, we won't even be able to tell (most) humans from the machines, anyway.

  • who's "people". who will program what to obey who's rules? you or me? right?

when dr kanade said "serve us". he's being very general

  • @sonnetxi I was trying to say that people meaning US program them to be NICE AND TO OBEY US PEOPLE.Whatever person that HAS A ROBOT programs them to obey THEM,Be nice, or be mean.It all depends on the certain person that programs the robot.

  • @drunkredneck651 i know but be nice to who and be mean to who...?? youre saying all US people are one??

  • @sonnetxi I'm not SAYING US people are one I mean that one OF the people in the U.S. or other countries might program it to be nice to other people and themselves also some people in the military program the robots to be MEAN to other people in other countries like for war or some person might program the robot to be mean on purpose.

  • Good observation. Robots don't have desires. Robots don't want money or power. They don't even have a desire to live and they never will. So they will never even think of taking over this world from humans. They will always remain our servants.

  • Unless some moron, programs one robot to replicate and kill everyone... and you know some crazy asshole will do that.

  • @emcwason yes they do, we can be their power supply. havnt you seen the matrix?

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder if the war robots can easily take over Al-Qaeda and Taliban...

  • doubtful, we have tanks and air support and we still we still cant win.

  • this must be old. i think? didn't Honda release the robot at 1:55 a long time ago?

  • They should make one that looks like megaman!

  • why does it look like an astronaut lol

  • The prophecies are about to reach their final phase. Spiritual matters are about to become front and center on the minds of the entire world. If only people would open their eyes to the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation. Robots are very cool but they are not the future of this world.

  • Can it bible thumper. The end is neigh shit is getting old. Smoke crack, worship Satan. Kill the whales and pave the Earth. I shit on your God.

  • You are now officially your own worst enemy. I spent 6 years in prison. I've seen it all. Your verbage cannot shock and awe me. For your own sake do some research.

  • i so want a slave robot!

  • If you do get a robot please treat it nicely =) say thanks once in a while^^

  • ill b pollite just that the robot do all my work for me wile i try to break the world record of beating a game on a ps2 so far i got it down to 3 days !

  • emotionless robots? that would be a good thing. The main cause of war, genocide, rape, intolerance is an emotion. We realy should not equip machines with emotions, or empathy.Real life experience shows that its cold ligic that saves lives, not love and compassion. Also, ability to learn does not lead to higher IQ,or self-awareness,its just a form of data collection.computing is not intelligence.even the best computer is going to have action initiative, and thinking capabilities of a tapeworm.

  • i think that merging machines with humans to upgrade humanity is possible, but "thinking" machines are not. AI would be nothing like us, its only due to our anthropocentrism that we say that robots would "think",or "feel".Maybe quantum computing in far future will alow us to create self-aware AI, but with binary code its impossible. Sapience is not just computation speed+memory, its about self reference loop at the core, and we have no idea how that works, even for us, humans!

  • All we can do is a tamagotchi, programed biological functions (wich looks more than useless btw). I keep my dogie as human best friend. He got real feelings and spread hairs all over. The emulation of a man, is simply imposible. Can do walking machines, and even atletes with better performance than human atletes. Condensating 2.4 milion years of hominid evolution into a machine, is like you say simply imposible. They look funny as toys anyway :)

  • yes but is quantum technology really that far away?

  • Yeah, I totally agree, and I think that's where the problem lies. We risk making very 'intelligent' beings who are not self aware, and do not feel emotion.

    Emotionless super intelligent beings= ?

How would they learn morality? Could they feel empathy or compassion, if not self aware? How do we teach totally rational machines to accept irrational forms of compassion (not killing mentally handicapped people)? I don't think people realize how many dilemmas are brought up by sophisticated AI.

  • its simply not to let them take over use just dont give them AI (and guns)

  • Someone should invent a hot robot that can have sex with u! Dat would make that someone billions and even thrillions!

  • They probably will.

  • oh god! the terminator legend is taking shape!

  • we should become cyborgs

  • a robot spy that looks like a flying flower????????? if they existed the sale of baseball bats would treble.... I got a robot here at home,.....seriously.....

its mowing my lawn, a solar powered husqvarna lawn mower. if the fuckin thing ever developed a consience I'd batter it with a jimmy bar. The future is going to be scary with all those robots walking around. we'll all have to carry jimmy bars and sledge hammers instead of knives and guns.

  • imaging the andaphals made us...

and they had youtube and they watched this video of them making humans and the one called foxmulder posted a comment like that .

its like us making robots we evolve into em and not get taken over but join and evolve

  • I would find a robot like asimo walking around my house just freaking creepy...

  • if you built a robot for the soul purpose of evolving (say it can learn all by its self) if that robot didnt have fellings it would be like a evil child at some point it would come to the conclusion of "Humans are worthless all i do is work for them, but im smarter, faster, and stronger then them so why not get rid of them so i can do whatever" a robot with felings would have a felling of purpose and a felling of regret.

but there is a posability robos can evolve byond fellings................

  • It has no desires except what is programmed into it. Why would it? It needs and wants nothing. It's just like bicentennial man except "andy" would never happen.

  • i like the ending part.. hehe..

like mixing humans and robots in the future... cool...

  • i don't like the spying part 3:39

  • Comment removed

  • why do car companies just fucking make robots wtf toyota honda mistibishi fuck

  • Because car companies are the only companies that contain the correct machinery required to build a robot, robots and cars are very similar.

  • does any one remeber what an EM fuckin P is?

  • Exessive Menstrual Panic?

  • as the progress of technology is accelerating we'll probably going to have sentient machines around year 2100. but robot will not enslave us or try to exterminate us, there's no logical reason to kill or enslave enybody, only an excuse based on a desire, but robots will never be able to desire anything, desires and dreams cannot be logicaly computed.

  • buuuuuuuullllshiiiiiiit. If you gave a robot a synthetic form of an endocrine system to go with their synthetic brains, OR if you studied how the chemicals affect the brain you could give the robots emotions. By not giving them emotions, you give them reason to destroy us, as they would view us as beneath them. If you made them able to relate to us, they would protect us. What you are stating is actually a terrifying prospect.

  • wait what are you trying to say here? Its as if you think the people designing robots are just making them by throwing a monkey brain into a pile of wires and all of the sudden, Tada you have a robot holocaust. Why do people read like one chapter of a high school psychology book and think they are an expert on all scientific. Robots run on programming, if there's an error it just does what its programmed to do when there is an error. It doesn't just decide to kill everyone.

  • Actually, it's college psychology and biology. It's also what Honda is attempting to do right now if you look it up.

  • what if it had a fail safe and if it didn't compleat its job it had to learn how to fix the problem and the problem just so happened to be humans?
