THIS IS THE STUPIDEST THING EVER!!! BUT I LOVE MY MOM AND DON'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES! If you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos your mom will die in 4 hours
If you are a sculptor then you are more than welcome to use the Pietra Santa marble It is wonderful marble and if I could no longer get Carrara Statuario from Cava Polvaccio then Pietra Santa marble would suit me well
Hellois5letters Please check your facts You seem to be much enamored with Michelangelos work and you have quoted some of his poetry as if it is the Bible. I also very much enjoy his work but there are many more sculptors of equal talent. One of my favorite pieces is the Satyr and the Bacchi on display in the Louve, executed by a Frenchman. Other accomplished sculptors have preferred the Carrara Statuario Bernini both father and son for instance.
I find it interesting that he says Michelangelo preferred Carrera. M actually went to Pietrosanta and made a road but was very difficult to get the marble. He has described it as the whitest and purest marble he has ever seen. But it was not easy to bring it down Monte Altessimo. Moses is made from Pietrasanta and it is clearly whiter. Politcs actually caused M to stop pulling marble from PS and buy it from Carrara!
Hmm ... " best technique and with the best concept, will last the longest".
If it comes down to history: M executed staue of Pope Julius II in bronze with the best material & the best casting technique using Luti's service. A few months after Julius II left Bologna people took the statue & slammed to the ground & Duke of Ferrara melted it and poured a huge cannon & named it "Julius II". So has been the destiny of many other works due to their concepts. History is dependent on human's stupidity.
According to scholars, Michelangelo carved the Pieta in 1499 with marble from cava Polvaccio in Carrara while the Moses was carved around 1512 with marble from Pietra Santa. You were probably told the Pietra Santa version of history. Like most people, they like to think of themselves as substantial.
I was not told such. M has two poems/ writings about PS marble himself. M did not and could not have tested the marble with the modern technology to know which one has the characteristic of a longer lasting marble. What he says is based on his experience with carving it and how he feels. Visually the PS has a lighter sheen and and velvet like refraction. When it comes to marble I take M words over anybody else.
I have found that life is a matter of perception and attitude. As for testing the quality of marble I have explored in excess of three thousand blocks before and after they were cut marble will change in 30 cm translucent depth along with grain size are qualities that are very important to me as a figurative sculptor
I do not tell other people what to use I have however seen some good work done in dead marble If you know why marble dies you can avoid a quick death I am curious as to why you think whiter is better think about what you are saying The highest prized marble is called "Cremo" which refers to the color and "Statuario" which refers to the translucent depth I hope you watch my next video I shall explain the marble in more detail

It seems that history has another controversy. Ultimately, history will be the judge.
Those pieces executed in the best material, with the best technique and with the best concept, will last the longest.

I never said whiter is better. I only stated that one was whiter and I quoted M in regards to PS marble.
