  • Is this the faster Amtrak can go. No wonder I want high speed trains in the great USA.

  • You were in a NPCU right?

It looks much higher than the cab of a P42!

  • Good Stuff!! Cab ride shots never get old!

  • Cool the loco has a great horn!

  • How did you get a ride in the engine? I thought that Amtrak empoyees are prohibited from taking people into a live locomotive.

  • @Streetcar1743 - You're right. We are. I was deadheading a about seven years ago when I shot this.

  • If you do work for Amtrak, Do you also work the Missouri Runner? I would love to see a cab ride on train train 314 or 311.

  • @Streetcar1743 - I've not even been on one of those trains since 2003. We work out of specific crew bases, rather than simply roaming around where needed.

I briefly was on the roster at St. Louis, but only made a few qualifying trips before getting bumped. I think I did shoot a few minutes of video on a head-end trip, but I'm not sure if I still have it.

  • Oh I see. If you do have it, please uplad it for me.

  • i know this might sound stupid and you probably answer it already but. Since when is there snow in June in Chicago?

  • @howardkevinm - You are right, that is stupid. That date is the date the video was POSTED, not the date it was shot.

  • How did you get into the cab? Do you work for Amtrak?

  • Is that the 392 F40PH or is that the cabbage control?

  • Train number 392. The locois a P42.

  • Oh, i thought the P42 series engines were numbered 1-199, and F40s are numbered 200-499

  • Again, 392 is the TRAIN NUMBER. NOT the ENGINE number.

FYI - The P42s run into the 200 series.

  • Oh man i thought you were talking about the engine number.

  • Cardinal?

  • This is 392

  • I meant is this the Cardinal route? I guess not, because they only have train #'s 50, 51, 850, and 851

  • Totally awesome video! Thanks for sharing! 5*****

  • northbound Illini?

  • what kind of engine

  • P42

  • cool thanks

  • It'll always be the IC to me.

  • Always love the cab ride shots. 5*****

  • cool vid

u know this engineer or are u a conductor

  • To amtrk: Sometimes you can get cab rides without knowing anyone. You have to ask. If you get a nice engineer and crew it is possible.
