  • wow i have an hg20 and my videos come out crap but wow yours are amazing what did you do to get this effect how did you upload what software do you use tell me everything please i feel like i wasted money

  • @Matucks : well.. depth of field depends on 3 things: focal length, subject distance and aperture opening. Set your camera in AV and at minimum aperture and try it. Shoot at maximum quality and edit with new software at decent settings.

  • Great video. Did you have an additional lens or adapter on this one? What were your settings?? Sorry if this has been posted, but I'm working on improving my depth of field.

    Thank you!

  • @jsoqui : i shot it in AV mode at f.18~f2.8 (depending on zoom). I didn't use any adaptors.. just the camera as out of the box.

  • I undeleted my previous coment. I am nuts!

  • It's from Trilogy album. :)

  • Awesome! great footage! I just got a canon hg-20. I think I made the right choice.

Which is the background? that is awesome too.

  • ATB - Trilogy is the background song.

  • THanks man. In my previous comment I forgot to add 'music'. I deleted the comment and was about to add the corrected comment, then saw your reply.

the video rocks! the music rocks! 5 stars!

  • Amazing video man. Great atmosphere.

I just looked up HG20 and it seems like a good camera.

I have hdr-tg3 and I like it very much but I think I'm still not using it's full potential. (you can check some of my videos)

Every now and then I'm testing different render settings and stuff like that but I'm not sure if I'm getting the best I can from it.

What program did you use and what are your render settings?

    Cheers :)

  • Hey,

My rendering method is mainly render to a large file then recompress it to the needed formats. I ALWAYS shoot progressive on my camera, your camd doesn't have that option. I grade all my footage (color correct). I also shoot with some manual settings (again you cam does not have the option to select shutter speed). BUT you cam has slowmo :)) And I am a big fan of slowmotion.. try to deinterlace with interpolation and color correct your stuff, you will do just fine.

    Cheers,

    Tudor M

  • Thanks a bunch buddy.

Yeah, my camera doesn't have many options and manual settings but it does good job capturing in decent HD.

    Yes, slowmo is cool :)

Check my "savska random" video :)

  • can you help me? i have had this camcorder for a while, and i cant for the life of me figure out how to change the aperture, the manual wasn't berry helpful, and i have looked everywhere els.

  • Press the FUNC button and select AV mode.

  • thanks a bunch!

  • Song?

  • atb triology final chapter

  • thanks mate

  • LOL at the bald guy at 1:12

  • Great stuff man i was actually looking at this camera and the canon HV 30 which one would prefer?

  • Well, HV30 is tape, and now I "kinda" miss it, it's a strange feeling. :) But HDD is instant access and easy copy from one side to another (camera - PC) The image quality is similar between the two.. AVCHD codec on HG20 uses more CPU than HDV (HV30) but yet again, HV30 has to capture manualy and if the video head gets dirty it's kinda messy. In the end, I recommend them both, just note that HG20 has proprietary audio shoe and batteries, not a big deal for me , but for some it is. Cheers.

  • thanks a bunch!

  • question, did u film this in 24p cinema mode? if not could u upload one? cause im lookin forward to get this cam

  • Hey, I filmed this in 25p, because I live in Romania, which is in Europe :). If you wanna use 24p you just have to do pulldown and you should get a real effect (from 29,97 to 23,97)

The cam is good for it's price, i generally recommend it.

  • Good video! Did you ajust the depth of field with the little joystick to make this?

  • Yes, I used the manual focus wich can be operated with the joystick. Pretty hard to control the nifty thing :P

  • Ok, thanks! Yes, I have this camcorder and it is hard to control with the joystick! :p

  • whats the name of the song u used?

  • its ATB - the final chapter :P

  • amazing video!

  • england? great video. i love my hg20 :)

  • Nope, Romania :) Thx anyway , i'm glad that my filming makes my country look like England.. hehe xD HG20 is great. Use it well!

  • is it good for like things that are fast and small?

  • it's literially good for everything. this camera is literially sex. enjoy. but it, highly recommended.

  • love the music.....

  • Aside from this just being a 'test' film.

I think it has a lot more merit in terms of

    evoking an emotion.

    Excellent stuff.

BTW, just bought one of these cameras.

  • Thanks mate. :)

    Hope you enjoy the camera!

  • This is really good. I just got my hg20, trying figure out the depth of field thing, still failing, but stilling trying.

Did you use options in the list of "cine mode""shutter speed priority"... and chose "aperture priority"?

When I select aperture priority, and increase the value, the image just becomes darker and darker and no change in depth at all. Can you help me with that? THank you.

  • Hey KaiChippi,

I suggest you read the Wikipedia article referring to aperture values. You have to set the aperture value to the highest setting , which isn't the highest number. F1.8 is your highest aperture opening for good depth of field. F8 is more shut. At maximum zoom however, your max value is f2.8. So , set your camera in aperture priority when fully zoomed out, then set the aperture to f1.8 and when you zoom in and out it sets itself automaticly at the highest value.

    Cheers,

    Tudor M

  • Very nice, great atmosphere and filming !

What's the name of the song actually, it reminds me something but can't find it heh

  • ATB - Trilogy (The Final Chapter) - thanks for the comment. :)

  • I knew it ! I went through ATB's song yesterday to find it and couldn't find "The Final Chapter". Very good song choice, spring is coming !!
