I am kind of drawn to this song.
But there is a significant part of my brain which was looking at this video (on a stylish late night tv music show) and saying 'i hate that fucking haircut,
why oh why does music have to be fashionable. Why can't it just be fucking music. no fashion at all.' Then the dressed up model/presenter comes on the screen with her oh so pretty mouth and tells me what the song is. I think this presenter sucks cock.

Let me get this straight, you're offended that the people in the band want to have fun with how they dress and look... and yet you say it's people like that who are empty/shallow? I think it's perfectly fine to have fun with visual presentation, fashion, etc when it comes to music. It's all about extending the creativity and art of it past the singular sense of hearing. If you just want to hear the music, why look at music videos at all?

u assume that a person is expressing oneself by dressing in such a way, I assume it is to look cool/fashionable,2construct a social persona of oneself 4a feeling of acceptance or power within a specific social circle.
U see creativity i see vacuous hipsterness which has no root in genuine expression of the self, that is instead an inhabiting of a derivative interpretation of humanity, constructed by that shitty consumerist aesthetic which saturates every aspect of our lives these days. gggghh

Even wearing "normal" or "average" clothes is an act of fashion and consumerism, no? One of the only ways to avoid the whole "consumer" aspect of clothing would be to make your own... and that's actually what I see a lot of people labeled as "hipsters" doing. All and all I think your smarmy attitude (perhaps a defense mechanism to guard your own sense of self worth) is blinding you to the fact that... many people labeled as "hipsters" just want to have fun with what they're wearing. Lighten up!

The tone of that statement/question...Is this supposed to make me realise I am criticising myself? Its hard to guage what to make you classifying me as normal. I dont think it is the right classification personally. I think a hipster (sorry if that term offends, I cannot think of a better one right now) would be more normal, although there would then be the normal people which the hipster rails against as well. That is the expected behviour of that

Like making their own stylish counter culture clothes (which I would be surprised if such clothes didnt subscribe to some kind of fashion sense, which was based on/inspired by/a reaction to a particular aesthetic reinforced by magazines/industries catering for said demographic).
