As much as I absolutely love his singing voice, if I was to stand in front of an audience and sing a song in a different language, I would make sure I knew the words beforehand. Else I wouldn't do it. Not about being close minded, it's about paying respect to the source material.

In the original song it is a guitar as it is in this video. They use an effect processor called a Talk Box. You change the frequency cut-off (like a Wah) with the shape of your voice hence why you can make the guitar talk = talk box.
