Charlies good people but I agree in how the times are changing and so are the people running the big picture, old coots like me think one way and young muffins another. One things for dern sure, old loser no talent bums like me will ever be invited to even play there let alone be a member, Nobodys That Nuts. (but my Mom still loves me...I thinK?) So relax, only so many can get there in a year and there's a lot great folks that play there.
People like Carrie Underwood and Josh Turner, though they're talented (But they're still not REAL Country), it shows how idiotic and pathetic the twerps at the Opry are by having Charlie Daniels bust his ass for millions of people, including the Opry for over 40 years, and indut new punks before they induct a legend that's influenced almost EVERYBODY in the genre! The Opry, along with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and The Grammys, is one of the most clueless and worthless organizations today!
I thnk its the fact, that others like mark chesnutt and tracy lawerence got shoved aside for the carrie underwoods and taylor swifts, Its more about being popular then it is the music anymore, soon as taylor comes out with a song it automatically gets nomiated.I just think taylor shows shes more in it for the fame, then the music, Untill she shows some respect for others in country, ill never like her
I love country music (all eras) old and new. The strange thing about country music, really all music is that at 1point n time there was always something older than what is being played at that present time. 2 say 1 era is better than the other is a major njustice 2 all musicians (n this case country musicians). Charlie, Hank, Roy love the new members as much as the old ones because they were there at one time 2. Country music knows no age diff.Old or New its all country and they are all family.
@BitterWaterTunnel, don't worry they will have their day also look at how long it took Charlie Daniels and that was long over due. Their are alot of good country singers.
Don't understand the bashing about Carrie Underwood's induction to the Opry.
Carrie has sold about 12 MILLION albums, has 12 #1 hits, has won 10 ACM Awards including back-to-back Entertainer-of-the-Year. Do you know how FEW country artists have match or exceeded those achievements?
Carrie is a wonderful spokesperson for country music and she will be the next queen of Country Music!
@PeterIllini85 - to me, it seems like winning awards is not the same anymore. There are many different award shows: CMA's, AMA, Grammy's, and others, and someone can win 20 awards in one year now. In addition, being a part of the ORPY now, is not the same as it once was; it's not even country anymore, it's made-up country, Carrie-country. I would trade 1000 Carrie Underwoods for 1 Charlie Daniels, or one Johnny, or one Dwight, or one Hank, or one Jones, or one Buck, or one Hag, or one Possum.
@TheWBarry - Most major awards have been around for a long time, 30+ yrs. So, Carrie's wins are comparable to past artists. Someone winning many in a short time could be in part due to lack of competition. As for today's country, some of Carrie's songs are like Shania's, so this 'style' has been around for awhile. Agree that some recent Opry inductees were too soon (e.g. C. Morgan, J. Turner); not saying that aren't very good artists. Inductions should be based on accomplishments, not years.
If you really new your facts Charlie was inducted before Carrie Underwood. Charlie was inducted in January of 2008 and Carrie was inducted in May of 2008. Also why are you bashing the artist when it is the Oprys fault not theirs.
This is Long over due, This should should have been done years ago . But this is what happens when you speak your peace and sometime go against the grain. Which anyone should be able to do. I've been out to Charlie's place in Lebanon, Tn for a Bar B que during fan fair years ago . Great guy , keep on keeping on Charlie.
Not as long overdue as Hank Williams SR, they still haven't haven't reinstated him. Charlie Daniels plays a mean ass fiddle but fuck the Grand Ole Opry!
That's just wrong. I'm not big on the 'G.O.P.' but I follow the news from time to time. The fact that 'Carrie Underwood' got in before most Legends of country music is a fuckin crime in itself.
Oh well, maybe some of the 'good ole boys' will pass on and they'll get some new judges or voting staff in there with common fuckin' sense.
Induction into the Grand Ole Opry is not just about country music but dedication to the Opry itself. It's an agreement between an artist and the institution that you be there to support the Opry for the rest of your life. Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Josh Turner deserve it because they will be big stars for years to come and will support the Opry always.
Maybe Faith Hill and Tim McGraw are not members of the Opry because they won't commit to it. It's much more than being a country star.
We should celebrate all people's accomplishments not just the ones that you like - I have a story about Charlie Daniels - my friends were playing a gig at a festival and Charlie was intown playing somewhere heard about the festival and came down to play with my friends band who are quite good - Myfriend said to Charlie when he wanted to borrow his fiddle "I only have a $80 bow, Charlie says that's OK I have a $20 bow.
You should go and read the what the Opry says about choosing people to invite to be a member of the Opry before you go spoutin off - spreading ignorance and falsities like the media and the press do is going to take down our society - seek out the truth and then make a judgement - the internet is great but one bad thing is the anonymity it gives voices to those that wish to tear down and berate instead of build up
WTF?? Carrie Underwood is a member, and she isn't even country! Why wasn't Charlie invited to be a member back in the seventies? Fuck the record execs!! Membership into the Opry, is a recognition of being the best in country for years and years!
carrie underwood is country, and real country people dont swear like you do, so wat do u know. sure charlie should have been invited earlier but still
That's a SLAP in the face to country music when it takes Charlie Daniels, a LEGEND, years to be invited to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry and people like Carrie Underwood and Dierks Bentley get right in...somethings NOT RIGHT ABOUT THIS!
Agreed. They need ALOT less Carrie and ALOT more of the other talented arists. Charlie, Martina, Reba just to name a few. I thought this was called the Grand Ole Opry youtube Channel not he Carrie Underwood at the Opry channel. So sick of it.
@jermar79 I feel exactly the same way. This man has been a country music icon longer than before most of these newer members were a twinkle of light in their daddies nut sack...
he shouldve been there years ago.. among others, these new artists make a few years of hits, and become members, i cant understand that. they are good, but guys like charlie, have been out there for many many years night after night...but i am glad he made it just the same
over due! i dont know if i would have takin it if i was him. he has alway been there for america... sorry im kinda mad it took them this long. keep rocking Charlie true fans will aways honor you in our harts
He was a member and they could'nt keep him out of Tootsies long enough to play on the nights that he was supposed to. They used to have to go get him out of the bar for him to perform. The Opry finally got tired of it. I guess that he would have continued to be a member if he hadn't been such a drunk!
okay totally deserved but why so long when you watch another invite for carrie underwood who has only been around for a while charlie will always be remembered in ten years will anyone remeber her
very true, Carrie Underwood is NOT country yet they honor her like shes Hank Williams or something, Charlie is a legend whose music transcends both country and rock and roll and he deserves this honor more than anyone they've inducted recently, especially Carrie Underwood, screw her
All I can say wow... You can tell he was hit deep by this gesture.. I know I would be.. I have listened to the grand ole opry since I was little.. I still havent been able to go there as I am in california but to me I think if I stood on the stage I would be feeling the same as charlie.. What a great video.
