Hi thanks for this great video. Its really interesting what you can do on a pilates reformer. I take ballet and have a aero pilates reformer. I am worry that using the reformer for piles would bulk out my thighs. Do you think this would happen? Thanks :)
@lapianistamusica I would guess it depends on the amt of weight and reps but I really have no idea- jennifer could probably tell you - I think she has a fan page on facebook for pilates on park ;)
i need to know some back excersizes so i can strengthen my back. my teacher told me that i need to have my leg at 90 degrees this year, its a must. my back isnt very strong and it needs to be stronger. do you maybe think that you could make a video or something showing me some?
@MissGracieLove lay on the ground on your stomach and have someone hold your legs together around the ankle with their feet and help you get up in high 5th I think it is called. I'll ask Robbie but where both hands are over your head, then have them let go and you try to hold it. Keep doing it 2-3 times a week and should be able to hold longer each time.
@mydancetv thank you! :) we call it fith. i knwo what you mean :P uhm,. yea i do that excersize sometimes, im starting to do it every day. but i do it differently. i get someone to sit on my legs, and then i do basicly back sit ups. uhm i you know, do it liek a sit iup but with my back and i am getting better. i do about 20 of those :) uhm except i started yesterday lol so ill see if it improves in a couple weeks :Pi take pilotes at my dance studio we just dont get to do much for our back
@mydancetv depending on what style a person is using will depend on what they call it. The Royal method calls a fifth what the Vaganova method calls first, or something like that.
Could any pilates studio help you with ballet and alignment en pointe? Or is that just something you'll see only in a dance studio that offers pilates? There's a pilates studio in town and I had considered a few classes, but I don't know if they can tailor a workout towards dance.
@Lissbirds I'd try to find an instructor with a ballet background like jennifer in the video and if they have access to a reformer and know how to use it for ballet even better. But all pilates is good for your core so don't worry if you can't find anyone specific to ballet. Google your town and ballet pilates and see who pops up.
I know this may sound like a stupid question but what can pilates do to help with ballet? I just need to know any strengthening solutions and if pilates help with ballet then I might have to take up pilates.. Thank You VERY MUCH!
@JustDance2theMUSIC Pilates helps strengthen your core. It is essential for ballet. You must have a strong core. It helps you keep firm but allows your limbs to do what they need to do with out a bunch of tension. You always engage your core in ballet. Most studios also offer pilates for this reason =)
teehee i used to sickle too... and then right before i was going en pointe my teacher noticed my sickle and put off my pointe fitting for two months!!!! IT WAS TORTURE! lol :)
aww I wish we had someone like Jennifer Curry Wingrove in Portland, Oregon!!! I could really use those workouts because I am going on pointe soon and I need to strengthen!!
Gosh, you are working hard! But it really is worth it and I am sure you know that anyway - especially the core exercises they're hard but I bet one day in class you'll be dancing something and suddenly you'l think "wow, that wasn't so bad!" and you will be way ahead of your peers! Thanks so much for sharing these - Pilates was a little different in my day (not so many sophisticated machines .... just a mat, ha!), but it really does help. Keep on the hard work, best wishes, xx
@bachandbark Thanks bandb ! It def helps! =) Hopefully I can post some dancing soon! Should be an improvement from June 09 when we started the videos.
I wish we had a place like that around here... My ballet class is only once a week, so I don't really get to practice many strengthening exercises... I can't wait to see her really dance when she's older! Keep it up, Robbie!
where are you located?best wishes
