  • Mercy Day, Truck Stops ain't what they used to be!! Nowadays they are "Travel Centers" with the "Truckers" being 3rd on the list!

Miss the days of the old '76 Truck Stops!!!(and a lot of the independents,as well!!)

But, then again, "Truckers" ain't near what they used to be, either!

I guess "progresse" Happens! (please read, tongue in cheek on that one!!!)

  • @OriginalBurton Yip nowdays what these Big Corporate Carriers Hire is "Steering Wheel Hanger On' er's", Clueless Idiots that cab barely get the truck to go forward never mind backwards and shifing, they've got to have an Automatic transmission - Lord forbid should they encounter a 13 double over or a 15 double with overdrive and have to Split those Suckers at the last second ! These Corporate Carriers have Ruined the Trucking Industry with their Steering Wheel Hanger On'ers , some foreigner !

  • My Dad use to play his music, and it makes me think of a Thanksging in the early seventys and my Dad came up the drive in a snowstorm, all unshaven and got dropped off out of his friends rig, you don't forget sites like that. And Dick Curless makes me think of those times everytime I hear his music!

  • Another great one from the Baron. Dig the photos, too, especially the second one of Dick and the girl. Good post.

  • What a voice Dick Curless had. Underrated in the world of Country music. He also had some fine studio musicians on his albums.

  • I remember I used to drive back and forth between Eastern Ohio and Indianapolis and would listen to Big John Trimble on WRVA. He always started his show with this song every night and it was a welcome song to hear.

I remember one night being broke down (before the days of cell phones) trying to get a message through to Dad (who was an over the road driver) calling Big John to pass along to "Sledgehammer" that I my motor locked up. Big John got it on right away, a great guy.

  • i haven't heard this song in so long i was about 7 and i was trucking with my dad it brings back so many memories
