  • why why did he have to die so young, listen to his voice and tell me that it's not a shame that he left so young.....

  • My dad had the honor to play the drums with this guy it was in Keiths last year my dad is a great drummer...he was only in his teens :)

  • Not only a great song. A very good vidieo. X out Lorrie Morgan he would still be alive.

  • damn makes me want to lopen up a cold one and get my old flat top down and try try try to sing along!!!

  • What a great talent gone too soon

It seems rock stars die too soon from drug overdoses and country stars die too soon from alchocol overdoses

  • Sing the Hell out of Keith...!!!!

  • I had tickets to a concert in Woodville,Texas to see my all time favorite country singer Keith Whitley, when he died they replaced him with a new singer Clint Black. I gave the tickets away, there was no replacing Keith, his voice, his feeling in his song or his connection with his fans and with the man himself.

  • @trhughes09 Bet you regret that decision now. Clint Black is better than Whitley was.

  • @LT1HILLINGHOE ~~NOT!!

  • @BeckyB289 Yeah....Clint is better.

  • I still love this songs with those beautiful words and it does make me feel so emotionals whenever I play this song on Yoy Tube

  • @Bellamorra55543 can you provide a link to the petition in a message here, please?

  • beautiful song...love Keith!!

  • So, i am learning more about Keith, and I did not know that he wrote "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind"....Does anyone know if he had ever sang a demo of that? I would love to hear him sing that one!

  • @shauniegayle Keith didn't write "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind," Whitey & Darlene Shafer wrote it. His version is on his 1986 album "L.A. To Miami."

  • @MAMsMom97 Thank you for clearing that up!!! So, on a personal note, did you ever have the chance to meet Keith, or any of his family?

  • @shauniegayle I've never met Keith. He died the month before I graduated from high school. I've met his mother Faye for the first time in 2003, his brother Dwight and his wife Flo and son Michael first in 2003, and again in 2005 and met up again with Flo in 2009, and his sister Mary in 2005.

  • He still is a good singer. I'm sure he's up there somewhere singin' just as beautifully as ever.

  • A True Artist that's gone way to soon!!!

  • You have an ear for a great song Gordon. This one is exceptional.Great words and a great singer. Not maney country singers ,left that can work a song like this fellow does. This is as close to old time country as it gets.I'll put him right alongside Merle Haggard. Thanks Gordon. Snodgrasser.

  • Such a beautiful voice. How sad to live your life for the booze... and die for it.

But he is at peace now, with our Lord. It's the ones left behind that are still

hurting to this day. R.I.P Mr. Whitley.

  • Such a beautiful voice. How sad to live your life for the booze... and die for it.

But he is at peace now, with our Lord. It's the ones left behind that are still

You were sure a natural and your voice was a gift more than you ever knew. Just wishing you were here, well you are here in my heart and will always be. Debbie :)

  • I knew a man that was able to carry concrete blocks up both arms, strong as an ox. He loved this song, always sang it, and danced with grace. Thank you Garry, for the gentleness you showed.

  • Beautiful Song!

  • my wife is from newyork city and she listened to everything but country until she heard keith whitley she transformed from listening to rap etc etc to nothing but country thanks to keith whitley when she first him she had me play his music for hours.thanks keith for helping me transform a city slicker into a country girl.R.I.P

  • i love this song <3

  • I sure love Keith. He sure does know how to sang a song. I just wih he had lived longer. No one should blame Lorrie for Keiths dead she didn't make him drank that was his choice.

  • this song is terrific, i listen to it over and over thanks for sharing

  • Forever 33, a life lost way too early.....He loved Lorrie but something else more.....Thanks so much, I cry when I hear this, I did love to hear him sing and always will!

  • love keith, had a great voice

  • Keith had a choice; the bottle or his family. He chose the bottle. Its a human tragedy. It happens all to often. We saw it with Lefty, with Gram Parsons, with Ira Louvin, and with Carter Stanley. Sadly we will see it again.

  • JUST BEAUTIFUL ! MISS YOU KIETH !

  • i love this song

  • Its me again folks to comment once again on another superb selection by MAMsMom97. I like this one but love the other version with lorrie but this one will be good, because Keith never sung a bad song. Yet he does it again so effortlessly, puts life into a song and gives it a indentity of its own. He and lorrie was back then and forever will be "The President and the First Lady" of country music. Never get tired of listening to his music. He is the Greatest of All Time. R.I.P. Keith Love ya

  • @lno71 my friend I am a staunce supporter or Keith Whitley but George Jones and Tammy will forever be the President and First Lady

  • Amazing voice, handsome too!! R.I.P. Keith!!!

  • 1 of the best ever Country Voices that have been heard on earth.....and probably up in heaven too. R.I.P. Keith

  • I think this is the most beautiful country song I've ever heard. Keith flashed a smile and I lost my heart to him immediately. Thank you for posting this song. It's really special.

  • Thanks so much for posting I love this song!! It don't get any better than this! True country! My mom and dad used to sing this to each other when I was little, gosh do I miss those days!

  • my mom danced with my grandpa to this song at her wedding, he was dieing from lung cancer at the time. it was one of the saddest days ever when it should have been a happy one. i miss my grandpa...

  • this song is like the best ever timeless keith whitley had it all i love him

  • Ernie Thacker & Route 23 should make a Keith Whitley CD with his greatest hits of course approved by the family ........ I will be the first to buy one as many will do.

  • @pmilmidi I agree, but since Ernie's car accident in the spring of '06 that almost killed him, it's been very hard, and next to impossible, for him to do anything musical. Ernie would be a great one to do a Keith tribute album. Ernie got into music because of Keith. He even named his two kids after him.

  • @MAMsMom97 I sure can see him learning the notes and sounds as he is healing. Get it started and put it out on the airway that this will happen. I think a bunch of us loyal Keith fans will understand and support Ernie......God Bless

  • Keith is the man!

  • I'll always love this song 4-ever! :-)

Yes, I'll probably be listening to it when I pass on too ;-)

This is my absolute favorite Country duet!

Thanks Sharon for posting all these GR8 songs!

  • One of the best songs ever sang by the greatest country/bluegrass singer ever. My whole life my favorite singers have been Hank Sr and George Jones. Knew all of Hank's songs and a good deal of Georges',love Waylon too. I still think they are truly awesome but then I heard Keith!!!!!!!. What range, tone, pitch, feeling, WHAT A VOICE, he just never sang a mediocre song or hit a bad note. Thank you MAMS for all the great videos.

  • I don't care if he did have a drinking prob. He's still the best.

  • OMG- I miss that voice! He had the ability to rip your heart out with the words of his songs. What an amazing voice! Songs still ring true today as when they were new.

Dwight once said that Keith lived his songs and felt every word!

The best Ever!!!! Now and Forever!

  • This is a beautiful song and my sster Barb can do ths just beautifully..Ok, an i,hee hee

  • R.I.P Jessie

  • This is a great song this is what country should sound like besides this want to be songs of today

  • This is a great song I am a fan of old country this new stuff that they try to call country just does not have sound like Kieth whitly

  • the song is so beautiful! i just love it!!

  • one of many great songs on a year that i was born when country singing / writers where just kicking out an onslaught of country gold WOOT GO 1987 :D

  • i sing this all the time on yahoo rooms it is a beautiful song

  • R.I.P. Keith W....you sang some of the most sincere c/w songs. This style of songs seems to suit you perfectly. One of the greatest. Reminds me of Vern Gosdin abit

  • You can"t get any better than older country music

  • When I first got this song from Sharon, I was floored how they could take such an awesome song and destroy it into a duet, sorry but nothing better than how it was meant to sound, and in raw form as a duet.

  • This is indeed such a beautiful song,so pure from the heart and full of honest feelings and the duet with Lorrie Morgan is even better,to bad they passed away,Keith,Marty Robbins,Vern Gosdin,Dottie Rambo, all true country singers/writers/performers/entertainers,but their music remains in our hearts forever, thanks for posting,Eric.

  • This may not be the best song ever recorded but there won't be many ahead of it.

  • @conductorron -VERY kindly worded, thanks for respecting the heartfelt opinions of others, and I agree with you, Keith's voice was an amazing one.

This charted at #13 (country) in 1990, the year after Keith passed away.

I started a playlist for him today. My channel can be your ultimate music library with 425 playlists featuring over 300 artists and a list for every year since 1900 - you can listen to the sounds of any past year like you're back in the day.

  • i love this song..my mom love this song and she went to be with god in nov i love you mom and i miss you so much

  • She is resting in peace.... Just like my dad the hardest thing I could ever experience when he passed... God bless you and yours...

  • Damn.....that's good stuff...thanks for posting Tex

  • Not much better than this.

  • My father in law had cancer and a few days before he passed, he was very sick, He put this song on and reached across the table and took his wifes hand and sang this song from the bottom of his heart to her. Nothing has ever moved me like that. R.I.P. Mr. Bellah

  • i love this song keith was an amazin singer ;;;;;;;;;;;)

  • Keith has one of the purist voices I've ever heard. This beautiful song is so sweet. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone could sing this to their true love? This is double talent here - both singer and the song writers. Here in Kentucky we admire Keith's music and miss him so much. We met his red haired guitar player when he worked at Renfro Valley for awhile back in the 90's and we enjoyed his music. Thank you for posting. - Paula

  • Thanks for this message about Keith & information. He was really good.

    Margaret

  • ooooo this is a nice song.

  • The best line in country music -- " Would you send us back Keith Whitley, if we give you Billy Ray."

Can't remember what song it is from right now, but it is how so many feel. The best voice in country music was taken from us way to soon.

  • Keiths' music will live in our hearts forever, He was country when country was country. This song always brings the tears

  • I bet Keith is looking down and still wondering what happen!!

May God Bess You and we still LOVE your songs Keith!!

  • Such a Beautiful song.He was the greatest and if he was alive today he would be "The King Of Country Music!" We loved you Keith, may you RIP.

  • Beautiful! thank you

  • awesome wish he was still here

  • Keith sings a beautiful country song here...RIP old friend, thank you for your contribution to County Music....

  • Keith Whitley is the best!

  • Such a beautiful song! What a shame Keith is gone to be with the angels. I love all his songs and have collected every one of them. He is still my idol!

  • What a great find and thanks so much for sharing it with us. Great post and pictures.

  • Great song and vid.5*****Jerry

  • I have worked w/ Lorrie & Keith, they are great. I am a Nashville Song writer. This song is so Special to.

  • For real? I'm only asking because I really think that a *songwriter* would know (a) that "songwriter" is one word, and (b) the difference between "to" and "too." I would also expect anyone to refer to someone he *knew* in the past tense, when such third party had passed twenty years earlier.

Not trying to pick a fight. Just throwing that out there. If you knew Keith Whitley, great. He's one of my all-time idols.

  • This song reminds me of my grandmother and grandfather. He's on his 13th year of having Alzheimer's Disease and doesn't remember anyone, not even her. She still visits him, even though it's so hard on her to see him like that.

  • I absolutely love this song and have heard it sung by many artists including Keith Whitley, but to my knowledge, I have never seen this demo version. Thanks for posting! 5*****s Fav'd and added to my playlist.

    Have a blessed week,

    Jeff

  • I cherish this Fabulous song in my Heart. What a smooth and abidding song. I met these 2 singers when I was singing in nashville many yrs. ago. What a sad day when the world lost keith Whitley. he was my inspiration in music. As I am a nashville songwriter and will never forget him. Today & always keith you are in my heart. God Bles You Lorrie & your children.

  • I remember when they first announced his death.... it was so sad... then they released an album that had some private songs he hadn't released previously. This song was on that album

  • I'll never forget the day I heard Keith was dead. I nearly drove off the road I was crying so hard.

I started out my love for bluegrass music with Ralph Stanley and saw Keith and Ricky a hundred times. When he went with JD Crowe, I saw him many more times. I even got to introduce JD at a show in Berea, KY. I remember talking with Keith backstage and him showing me Lester Flatt's guitar he was playing that night.

He was a superstar in the making and country is poorer for losing him!

  • i feel your pain for the loss of him....and so know that country music lost one of it"s greatest the day he died...he will forever live on in my heart and soul.

  • Keith Whitley had the golden voice, but he was human, he had problems like we all do. Lets just remember all the pleasure he gave to us with his gift.

  • and he is good buddy and keith is my hero

  • IM just saying if he wouldnt of drank than he would still be alive im not saying he isnt good

  • If Keith didnt have a drinking problm he would been the best country singer ever but just like lorrie morgan said life goes on but i think he is the best, thats what i think but that's me keith whitley is missed teribly in counrty music

  • Keith IS the greatest country music singer ever, with or without the drinking problem.

  • @MAMsMom97 disagree

  • Comment removed

  • @stummergirl Amen!

  • I agree completely.

  • @stummergirl

I couldnt of said it better myslef... as i sit here and drink as i cry over my computer... I wish he was still here... Waylon and Hank Sr. also

  • Absolutely Great! Smooth music! Hate we lost Keith at such a young age!

  • The version that I was commenting on in the previous post was with Kieth singing with his wife (I believe)....this is the first time that I've heard this version ....absolutely astounding !

    Thanks again .

  • What a beautiful voice !

Is that his wife, Lorrie Morgan, singing with him ...and was her voice dubbed in after his death ?

My wife and I are Crazy about this song ...we only heard it, for the first time, about a year ago

    Thanks for sharing, MAMsMom97

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it! This version was recorded in 1987. Lorrie was executive producer on a few compilations that were released after Keith's death, including the "Greatest Hits" CD, which this song first appeared on. She put her vocals along with Ricky Skaggs' vocals on the version that was released on the "Greatest Hits" CD. This song won a CMA award in 1991 for Best Vocal Collaboration. It also won a handful of awards for the songwriters. The single made it to #13 here & in Canada.

  • @DamienakaFritenite: thats Keith's great friend Ricky Skaggs on the mandoline and on the harmony vocals. Lorrie dubbed in her voice after his death.

  • I met Keith & Lorrie many yrs. ago in Nashville, Tn. I am a nashville songwriter myself. No one can take their place. This song is awesome.Lorrie, I miss you. Keith will forever be in my mind & heart. I love you both. Cindy

  • never ever get tired of this beautiful voice

  • i live in the town where he grew up sandy hook ky

  • we lost a beauty.....RIP Keith

  • One of the very best for sure!! Got to see him perform live at our local festival one year and at that time didn't really know who he was. Now I do and I really like his singing. Wish he were still here to entertain us.

  • Great song and Great singer in my favorite.

    Thank you for nice posting.

    Greeting from Japan

  • Today on the "Bluegrass" station I heard a song by some guy names Thatcher title "Keith Forever". has anyone heard this song???

    He sounds just like Keith.

  • You're referring to Ernie Thacker & Route 23 and their brilliant tribute to Keith called "Keith, How Many." You can search YouTube to find them performing this wonderful song live. Thanks for your comment!

  • I love this song me and my dad used to sing this song when I was little. Brings back old memories

  • Beautiful. I love this guy. What a loss to not have him around anymore.

  • Does not get any better than this, thanks for posting

  • I'm only 24 but my dad raised me listening to Keith and I think he is one of the greatest of all time. We lost a legend too early in his great life!

    R.I.P. Keith Whitley

  • i love keith an have for a long time

  • Thats Keith's great friend Rickey Skaggs on mandoline and tenor harmony. Just great.

  • very good but sad

  • Does anybody know where one might find this recording? I've looked and looked but all I can find is the duet version...it's a demo so it's probably not on an album, right? Is it on a boxed set or anything?

  • No, there is no Keith Whitley box set in existence. The Keith Whitley Association makes these rarities available at a cost of $3 apiece, which covers the cost of the disk and postage, with the remainder of the proceeds going to future development of a website and fees associated with getting non-profit status. Send me a message for more info.

  • he still hits the right notes for me!

    he is still missed!

  • I sat here, stunned by how beautiful this song is.. and my eyes welled-up :(

I'm with poopstain565, PLEASE don't ever take this off! Thank you so much for sharing.
