I'm an American. We, as well as the South Koreans and the Japanese have motives for making North Korea sound worse than it is. Still, even its closest friend China isn't delivering any praise, so most of it probably is true.
I wish I could go and see the DPRK anyway, as it is this big secret and all. Don't see that happening anytime soon.

@fuhrman66 Well you can actually go to NK if you want to(as long as ur not american), they have tourist trips. im actually going there in august. so ur the one whos full of shit, besides they have internet at universities (intranet) And yes not everyone has cellphones, but the number of people getting cellphones in NK is increasing by ALOT each year, NK is almost locked down by sanctions, no wonder its going slow up there.. they are almost not allowed to trade = no economy.

And fuhrman same here :) i think that the fact that its as locked as it is, and that we know so little about it is what made me interested in the DPRK. I have also talked to several people from my country who have been there (they seem to like norwegians) and they say its a once in a life time experience and you wont forget it.

Only the people in pyongyang have those things, and they're party favoured. 100s of thousands of people have escaped and told their stories. Soldiers on the border and from the prisons have defected as well, many tourists have been allowed in the countryside and everyone says the same thing. Life is shit, people get arrested for victimless crimes, and theres rampant torture/murder in the labour camps. DPRK clearly sucks.
