My natural hair is black also. I just dyed my hair reddish brown last week. I used L'oreal kit. In the direction it said it was gonna take 30-45 minutes.dont listen to it. I did that but the color didnt come out evenly. u need to wait about 1h30 or more.

and u shud buy the dye brush. IT will help the color get into ur hair more evenly than ur hand. Believe me!

don't use boxed black dye. it actually Stains the hair aswell as colouring it. I get my hair bleached and used to have dyed black hair and i have to go to the salon 3 times to go blonde again because the bleach has a hard time getting the black out. Either use semi-permanent black or buy the professional colour and developer

For long hair you'll usually want 2 boxes. I have thick somewhat long hair and 1 is never enough. But, it does depend on how long your hair is and how much of a change you are going for. My sister has very very long thick hair but she only needs two because she usually is just doing her roots and updating the rest of her hair. But, when she did decide to change the color dark the go back to a lighter shade she needed three. You'll probably just want 2 though.

You can't chemically straighten hair with dye or bleach in it. Ask your stylist who's straightening your hair first she'll tell you what is best. You CAN dye and use bleach aka highlights/streaks BEFORE you get a keratin blowout/keratin treatment, which will help straighten your hair but not as much as the chemical straightener. Look it up. :)

Just to let you know, the whole shower cap/trash bag after your dye thing is a myth... hair dye contains an oxidizing agent which basically means it needs oxygen to develop the color so piling it on your head and then put something over it isn't much help. Just thought I'd let you know :) I used to go that all the time too cause my mom told me to but now that I go to beauty school, I learned the right way lol. :]

an hour and a half? omgsh i never left mine in for that long before. it depends on the brand of hairdye you use, just follow the directions on the instruction in the box. but all of the dyes i ever used said to leave it on no longer than 35 minutes

yes you can!!!! i do that allll the time. just make sure you don't get black cuz once you get black hair it's hard to get very blonde streaks again. but no there's no patches if you make sure you coat every strand. BUT over time as it fades, it will lighten up to a point where you see golden tones underneath. but use a shampoo/conditioner for color treated hair so it wont fade

well for my base, i just use dark brown dye and color it at home myself (simply cuz i dont want to have to pay for it when i can do it for $5 myself. but at the salon, i just say that i want blonde streaks. i want them different sizes (some thin, some thick, some medium). and i want them on the top half of my hair
