that's EXACTLY what happened with me and my mom's fiance (ex-fiance now, thank god)
he'd come up to me and like start talking to me just kinda "yak yak yak CAR yak yak yak yak CAR" and i'm like "yeah...uh huh...oh...cool..." and he would always make fun of my dad cus he would say "nice boat" every time he saw some boat, but this guy said "nice car!!!!!!!!!!! that's a (insert year, brand, make, model)!!!!!!" and im just thinking "yeah that's really great..."
I have an in-law that talks about logging equipment the exact same way. Your eyes glaze over and your head starts nodding........well, really, what else can you do?!
