Please DO NOT use pipe bomb into any hole because the rumbling of the ground can drive the rats to "safer and peaceful" ground, inside your home, for an example; I trap those damn things for a living and we find rat infestations usually when the nearby ground is disturbed, i.e. home construction or road work.

Get a 20 gallon rubber made tub. Grab a round piece of cardboard10" in diameter and poke a hole in the middle. Fill your tub halfway with water, run a piece of string through the cardboard and tie the string to the handles of the container suspending the cardboard in the middle over the water. Now put peanut butter all over the edges of the cardboard. Lean a board up to the edge of the tub giving rats access to either end of the string. Rats will crawl out on the string reach spin and drown

@AMRiYcad yeah and also that's kind of a slow death. it's like poison. i like my pest control as humane as possible. rat traps, mouse traps, and airguns (used properly, anyway) will kill the pests in an instant. they don't have feel much pain. that is, as long as your shooting is adequate enough for the job.

When I was a kid about 13y.o our neighborhood was over run with pigeons. For my birthday my parents bought me a Crosman 1400 .22 cal airgun. Within 2 years all the pigeons were exterminated. To this day, there are no pigeons in that neighborhood. And that's 35 years later! Good luck with the rats. I hope you have the same luck and fun as myself.

i havea gamo bigcat with a 3-9x50 for pests.

but i just ordered a custom power modded crossman 2240 pellet pistol with a red dot. that will be my new pest control/target gun. .22cal 12" barrel and power. it will be fun!!!!!!!! watch out starlings, chips and squirrel.

Yeah if you put some green film of some sort over the torch so that the light that comes out is green not white then it wont spook the rats as much. I have a gamo whisper X and a scope that is supposed to be on a .22 rifle not an air rifle. Gamo make great guns. Good hunting.

Good luck with the ratting! - one word of advice from someone who has the same problem - wait till the chickens have gone inside their houses and are shut up before you start shooting - It is a matter of luck (or not) if your pellet hits the wire mesh on its way to Ratty - and a ricochet could hit a chicken instead!

Thanks, I usually lock the chickens in the coop just incase they feel the need to come out for a late night snack... And you're right about the mesh. I'm sure I've missed a few rats because of it.
