I was reading your answer to Geka007zp. but didnt understand alot. you dont happen to have skype/msn or what ever so I can ask you a bit question about how to bind/weld/connect or what ever you did to the wheels, so they go with the chassi.
I want the wheels to do exactly like urs. rotate, move up and down when they go over objects.
@GeKa007ZP The threads are not animated in 3D Studio.
Tank wheels were animated using reactor, then I've lined bones to the wheels, created a spline shape along the threads' path and constrained the thread mesh to that spline. PathDeform - percentage is a wire parameter to the first of the tank wheel's rotation rate.
Damn... So realistic... It's bouncing, but not too much! Real tanks bounce as well (they are so heavy, but still bounce). How long did you work on this project (from scraps)
Um... How long? I did the model itself for a week I guess. It was so long ago I don't actually remember. The setup of the scene, rigging and animation took me 2 days.
I thought you didn't use reactor to make caterpillar moving around the wheel isn't it ? If you used a path constraint with a spline, how do you deform the spline ? Is there a fonction to link some point of the spline to each wheel ? in any case Nice video.
That's what I guessed it might be. My plan B guess would be a Point-to-Point constraint, but that would be a whark to have to do all of the tracks seperately.
Hey, I'm aware you probably won't ever make a tutorial for this, so I was wondering if you could explain it instead, and maybe most of us could learn off of that.
WOW this is kool.. dude can you make a tutorial of it and post it on your site:d or youtube.. you did something whihc will take years for me to learn.. that too on 3dsmax:P
Threads are directly affected by wheels position. It is a combination of Bones rigged to wheels (which are animated with reactor physics), a sinmple spline rigged to bones (by Skin modifier), and an object with modifier called PathDeform...
Oh! And then is the WireParameter of the percentage along the path with the rotation of one of the wheels. I can't remember which one though... But all is working simultaneously, so if you make reactor simulation, you dont have to worry 'bout the other stuff.
do you use script? do you animate by stopping the simulation, then changing spin value, then continue simulation, then stopping the simulation, then changing spin value, then continue simulation, ....?
True, not animatable. I did as you said. I started solve of the reactor animation, set the time in which I wanted the tank to speed up (e.g.) and changed the values in CarWheel, then started the solve from that point. Easy.
It was just self learning scene in 3ds max 8. Treres lots of mess whith Reactor Wheel, and one can get confused, but despite that, its easy as hell. Tutorial - soon, if I have time...
did you do this yourself? or was a tutorial. It would be awsome if you could make a basic yuyotial. I understand the basic physics for havoc but dont know how you did this for a tanks wheels.

@Qtittb i didn't get it, but tnhx)
GeKa007ZP 3 months ago
@GeKa007ZP Okay. Let me put it this way.
You can create a spline in 3D Studio, then make any mesh follow this spline's path using a modifier PathDeform.
You can easily edit the spline's shape with bones, if you rig it to any bones you want.
So, a spline is rigged to bones which are linked to the reactor animated tank wheels. Then, the thread mesh is linked to the spline with PathDeform.

did you do the model outside of 3ds and import or just make everything from scratch inside 3ds? im a noob at this stuff and want to learn

the bouncing should be a little bit slower.. the way it is makes it look like a toy.

Slide Bones? Would some one use those for say how Wall-e's treads or Dr octopuses arms extend and contract?

why does it have such a soft suspension? it happens in every reactor test video
thuglivin93 3 years ago
Toy Car Solver. Has suspension built in and has no limit on number of wheels.
Anarchemitis 2 years ago
The only thing that kind of is missing is the movement of the cannon when the tank hits the ground it should wobble up and down a little.
I have seen it on the tanks.

So how did you make the treads for the tank work like that, do the wheels directaly effect the treads,or is it seperate or somrthing.

Threads are directly affected by wheels position. It is a combination of Bones rigged to wheels (which are animated with reactor physics), a sinmple spline rigged to bones (by Skin modifier), and an object with modifier called PathDeform...

"And then is the WireParameter of the percentage along the path with the rotation of one of the wheels"
used splineIK?
pathdeform makes it a litlle bit soft i guess.
i tried to do it with splineIK. looks great if u dont rotate tank :)
if itll move towards without rotation it works great.
i got it all and will try
but there is a little problem that how to turn tank without loosing its speed?
thats an another problem for me right now.
everything works ok but rotations...
makes crazy :)
credemon 4 years ago
Umm, I have no idea how you make the tank turn, so I can't figure out what is the problem... :]
