That one cost me 30 UKP on Ebay. New ones are more expensive depending on how complicated they are. You can pay hundreds for the really complex ones from a good maker. Cleverwood has a good selection.
Interresting. I got one only with one slider in each side wich totals 21 steps. but the interresting thing in using two sliders in each side is that it allowss more options of combinations :)
Hi Cazz, could you tell me what is the size of your box? is it a 7 sun? I think of buying one of those, but they seems really small... like 3cm for a 2sun -_-
Your box looks really nice and well done, it is original from Japan? (with the stamp mark)
Could you tell me where I can get directions to open this box? My dad has one just like it and there is something inside and we cant open it to. He has had the box since he was little and can't remember what's inside.
I'm afraid there are many different configurations of these boxes so there's no one set of instructions. When I cracked this one it was a case of first finding all the sliding panels, then trying out different combinations of moves until I got the one that worked.
The common pattern is that moving one panel allows another to move which frees another etc. Sometimes there's a rocking rather than sliding panel and often you have to back up a panel that you moved earlier.
I'm not entirely sure because the mechanism is hidden. I think there's a series of grooves that guide pegs to slide in particular ways, like a hidden maze. You'd need to talk to a maker to get the full story. That or take one apart :)
cool, actually i showed this vid to a friend of mine and he says they sell these in downtown LA in Chinatown. I am gonna pick one up tomm. I love asian gadgets, knick naks. Thanks. Irons Forever!
Simple, practical solution - just place some small vials of acid inside which stay intact if you open it correctly but quickly melt your hands as they drip away from the bone - if you smash it open ;)
Japan? Yay!! I'm off to Okinawa in April - Wooohoooo!! Gonna get a couple of these if they have them there. I'll be able to sell you one on ebay then ;)
im planning on getting a 21 move box and that one seem really complex was it hard to move the pieces or were u struggling on opening it im not trying to sound mean or anything im just asking so i dont waste the money in buying something that might not even be worth it i might have sounded mean in my comment and sry about that
No problem, I get what you're asking :) Yes the pieces were difficult to move, because the box had slightly warped after being sat in a garage for 10 years. After playing with it for a while they've freed up quite a bit. A new box should be much easier to move the pieces.
PRetty cool video !! (don't mind about the commentary, it was just fine! ) . Well I've ordered my puzzle box last week, waiting 4 it, and by the looks of it I think I'll become a collector!! ;-)
Sorry, I have no idea how big a 'sun' is. I know it's a unit of measure but don't know how that compares to inches/cm. It's 3" x 7" x 4.5" if that's any help.

Cazz2706 2 years ago
i have a box that says four moveso so does that mean that there will be more than four panels
MegaSniffles 2 years ago
Each panel will move at least once and some may move more than once so if the solution has 4 moves there will be no more than 4 panels.
4 moves is pretty simple so I'd guess there may only be 2 or 3 panels - usually at least 1 panel moves twice to make a trick of the solution.

Thanks
