With all due respect to both great fighters, Lennox Lewis would have made short work of either of them. A few jabs here and there followed by a killer rounder or upper cut then KO combo
Apollo Creed vs Mohammad Ali was the greatest fight of all time. Some would disagree, saying that Mohammad Ali's fight against Rocky Balboa was his best.
@Petnateeto Ali and Jones mock sparred in front of a crowd in the 9's Jones said Ali figured out his weaknesses within seconds, and said no one ever did that before.
i watched an interiew 4 years ago when joe was 63 see joe had a bad left eye then he was blind because ali took out his good eye but ali was way exhausted then joe and peoples theory was joes gonna die or joe wins i thought joe was gonna win but a man named eddy buch stopped the fight and then i saw a limited screen playing of eddy buch talking and he said i do not regret stopping that mach because i have seen too many die in the ring and after the match ali saw joes son and tolh him sorry <3RIP
This fight was important to boxing fans for one reason in particular. Scrap the belt, scrap anything else, it's muhammad alis movement in this fight thats important.
You watch in the 1st fight, ali would backwards, He was moving back the entire time and getting caught with that left.
Fight #2, this fight you see Ali with alot of side to side movements and attempting to fake out Frazier.
Good fight but horrible ref, Perez. When Ali clinches, the ref never swats Ali's glove away from grabbing the back of his head. Considering how Frazier & his trainers mentioned this before this fight, as Ali was clinching behind Joe's head nonstop. The fight wouldve been way better if he didn't allow Ali to clinch behind the head and neck of Smokin Joe. That's the real reason Manila was so good, & that ref was relatively unknown & did a better job than Perez.
@GrassyKnollTrolls I guess @92463mike is right.. Either you've been born, extremely stupid, or you are just ignorant through life experience. Watch 9:31.. The ref was horrible, but he did not help Ali.
Just watch 9:31, and then say the fight would have been better if the referee acted against some actions of Ali. Frazier was going down at 9:31.. Fans say the ref probably had familiy who had their money bet on Frazier.
@Smackdaddy9 I respect serving your country and all, but that doesn't make you less of a dumbass. Your country treated blacks like shit, how could you expect them to fight for you if they weren't even allowed to vote?! People bitch about Ali like he's a draft dodger, fact is het sacrificed his carreer making a stand, when he could have just been safely deployed somewhere instead.
Ali is my favorite, but the truth is that he had no difficulty at early stage of his life,he was from middleclass family, never had troubl with a law a s tyson and foreman had,and did not work from 15 to help his familiy as Fraizier and Holmes did,he had the best trainer in usa since he was 16 and became a miilloner at early 22.I mean that Frazier and Holmes went trough difficalty and it was more easy for Ali to succseed in.Anyway he is best ever(by my opinion).
@aleksandrpondios Hahaha, really nonsense. Angelo Dundee himself said he did not taught Ali that much. He was just his corner man, trying to get Ali safe. Ali's 2nd greatest fight, was his own idea. Dundee kept calling:''get of the ropes, move''.. Ali's right hand leads against Foreman in round 1, were also his own idea.It was not easier for Ali to become the champion. If he did not have HIS determination and skills, he would not have made it. Ali could make it with Cossel as his trainer.
No credit taken from Smokin Joe, but his match would have been over, or at least more interesting if the referee did not do what he did at 9:31.. A disgrace, Ali said a few of his fans think the referee probably had money on Frazier and gave him some time to recooperate. Frazier was going down..
The beating Frazier took in the first fight destroyed him a championship level fighter. He was never the same again, although still good enough to contend. He looks flabby in this fight, as well as slower compared to the first fight. The third fight they were both shot, so it was competitive anyway.
What happened at 9:31 is a true disgrace. I'm not trying to take any credit from the late great Joe Frazier, as he clearly won the first fight. but it looked like he was going down and then the referee stops the fight for a few seconds.. Frazier had time to recooperate.
I don't know a great deal about boxing, so I was wondering if someone could explain why you see boxers holding one another so often, is it to prevent the other from hitting them? If so, why not just step away or hit them first?
called clinching boxers are fine tuned athletes ali for example was known to run for 9 miles every day, but even boxers with there insane stamina can get tired thats the first reason to clinch.. another reason to clinch or hold on to eachother like you call it is to break the timing of your oponent.. stepping away from your oponent and try to hit him is not a good tactic.. i think one of the few who could actually do that is ali.. thats what makes him great ;)>
@SR0Penne0Brillo They use it to replenish a bit of stamina. Another reason is that if a boxer lands a clean punch, he may clinch to make sure the opponent has no chance to counter. In the last rounds, if a boxer is winning he might start clinching so that the opponent has a hard time going for the much needed ko. The last reason I know of is that if a boxer is fighting an aggresive opponent and has a hard time dodging and countering, he might clinch to stop the assault :)
I remember as a 12 year old staying up late with my dad and brothers watching this and many other fights of Ali. The excitement and tension was great. Thanks Joe for the memories R.I.P
Ali and joe were like brothers. Joe was the older brother smart experienced and calm. Ali was the younger brother tall and the one that talked alot. They always faught and argued. Just.....Like.....Brothers.
I don't see why ali is being insulted here he was an awesome boxer with all the heart and soul the game required so he insulted his competitors he considered himself the greatest so he acted like it
Someone in the world never will be remembered but, someone always ever will be remembered in our heart, and one of them, is 'JOE SMOKING FRAZIER"!! R.I.P.
Joe Frazier <3 Ali didn't have a patch on him! In heart Frazier was such a great man! Ali was as low as they get. He had no soul or heart! One of the best fights ever! How on earth did Joe pull that off after being squashed by Foremen
My dad told me that this was the era when heavy weight boxing was at it's best. When he bought me an old black n white video of the 70s fights between Ali, Frazier, Foreman and Norton I was transformed forever. Boxing is dead today, all we have are spoilt young prima donas who care more abt money than entertaining. So I don't understand how Ali and went thru 15 rounds yet these days a fight rarely lasts 15 seconds. It is all abt TKO and money in the bank, sod the money paying fans.
