The Red Army choir has an awesome rendition of this song, and so does Chet Atkins, or all the Gipsy Jazz players from Django on to now. Get over your nationalistic complex.

He was good friend with Billy Crystal's father (who was famous producer at that time). Billy Crystal's grandmother was from Russia. So, probably she gave him lessons.
