  • Wow so much hate for other artists. Art is subjective, man. Both Eddie and Jason have that indefineable quality that makes them...well...them! Both of them hit me right in the chest with their music. I love them both. Eddie is my favorite, but, who cares? It's my opinion. Just listen, and enjoy.

  • Slow down Becker fans... Let's not forget - Eddie WROTE this killer track. Becker is just covering it with greater technical proficiency.

  • Now that's HOT! Awesome....

  • Hot for teacher On steroids !!!*-*

  • This youtube page contains some of my favorite things... Jason Becker playing Hot for Teacher and a Chipotle ad in the "promoted video" section.

  • He was too good for dlr.imo

  • Jason Becker should've done a cover of Eruption...

  • That would've been the best tour ever. Joe Holmes is a very competent player, but hearing David Lee Roth play Hot for Teacher like this? That would've kicked ass.

  • omarguitarify. Yes you Idiot, EVH does not exist comparing Jason Becker, and he can´t play Becker´s Music

  • 2:50 :D!!!!!!

  • A great version. Jason is a genius. The overall sound is clear, crisp, and the solo is excellent. He combines tasty blues staccato with fluid arpeggios. Jason's unique style really cuts through, giving the song a new twist while staying true to the original. Van Halen did the same on dozens of songs they covered in the '70s before their first album was released. Thank you for posting.

  • Nobody plays a song better than the original writer because its an expression of their own emotion and personality.

  • @altjff15 What are you talking about? There are clear distinctions of talent between artists, there is definitely a possibility for a cover artist to play better than the original artist.

  • @c0rnp0p5 There is no clear distinction of talent between artists unless you're counting notes per second or something. It's a matter of opinion. You might like a cover version more, but that doesn't mean it's better, it's just different

  • @KingNast I guess I have a better sense of hearing then, or else you are just being stupid.

I never said I liked this one better, I said it was possible for a cover artist to play better than the original, you should actually read a comment before responding to it. And saying there aren't clear distinctions makes you just as ignorant as you are accusing me of being.

  • @c0rnp0p5 I didn't say you liked this one better either. So much for reading comprehension. I was generalizing, meaning you might like *a* cover version of some song. I'm just saying that "better" is subjective. I think John Lee Hooker was infinitely better than Yngwie, but a lot of people would disagree. Now go look up subjective in the dictionary, and learn to have a civil conversation.

  • @KingNast Regardless of whether you meant this specific video or not, my implied assumption that you were talking about this video falls under your generalization, retard. Keep disproving your intelligence, child.

    I also hate Yngwie.

  • @c0rnp0p5 You said "it's possible for a cover artist to play better than the original" and I said "you might like a cover version more" My assumption was that you would like the better version more. That's beside the point anyway.. my point is that "better" is not so simple to define. What are these clear distinctions of talent anyway? Timing, accuracy, speed? What about feeling, how do you quantify that? There are some players that are sloppy, but I still like it.

  • this guy rips on this song in his own right. evh has more of a blues thing going on with his playing. becker has the neoclassical sound. good tone though. it's a good version.

  • @alpha1shadow

i agree, obviously it's awesome playing, but i prefer the original, not as fast, more feeling, but that's my thing with music in general.

  • believe in me,i have TONS AND TONS of respect for Jason, and I say,if he could,he would punch anyone who disrespected eddie van halen.ever saw that video where eddie asks people to donate money for jason and other people with ALS?he was really humble.eddie has alot of respect for jason.jason has a lot of respect for him.fact, both of them have achieved a level of awesomeness (even though like marty said, calling JB a genius is underestimating him)i like jason much more but fact, they're both gods.

  • wow, the solo is sick!!!!!!

  • Is he sweep picking the opening?

  • @Tedericoe yes

  • Sounds better than Eddie's! Without a God Damn doubt!

  • @TheWillabi downvoted lol

  • @TheWillabi

    Upvoted!

I wonder how many people had to help get DLR's jaw off the ground after this... i wonder if it took more people to help him than it took to help me...

  • @TheWillabi Not better. Just a different style.

  • @TheWillabi nuff said ...eddie doesn't have nuthing on becker olay

  • comparing Eddie to Jason is ridiculous. both are fantastic musicians … isn't that good enough? stop being so insecure in yourselves to the point that you even feel threatened on behalf of someone else, someone you're obviously living vicariously through. Great artists are great artists, it's really that simple.

  • Sorry but i really like EVH alot he's done alot for guitar based music , but IMO , Jason's in a whole other league !!

  • I would like to know...NO. I insist to know who these 3 assholes are. I would really like to hear the reason why they disliked this. I bet it's a pathetic reason.

  • @jimmyleppard6 prolly eddie, alex and wolfgang

  • Comment removed

  • @InDaHouse2k11 Are you a guitarist? Go play some of Jason's stuff and EVH's, you'll know that Jason's work is a lot harder to play. Eruption is easier to play in contuary to what many thinks

  • @InDaHouse2k11 Why are you trolling?

  • He learned these songs overnight.

  • Anyone who thinks that Eddie is "better" than Jason, they have some screws loose. I'm not saying who they like more that's their opinion, but it's obvious whose the better guitarist.

  • @jimifriedman18 theres more to guitar then just speed. Eddies artistic abilities blow his away. How many hits does jason becker have?

  • @NathanRyanAllen You are right. And Jason still smokes the guy. Your nut hugging guy.

  • @SomniumCorvus Yeah Jason becker is a nobody. How many views does this vid have? Oh yeah while eddies have millions of views and tons of hits.

  • @NathanRyanAllen You are a nobody, this man was ackniowledged by every hero you have ever had he won a Grammy by the age of 19 for an instrumental album. Perspectives was internationally acclaimed. Look at his tributes. He got ALS in his 20's and has lost all function of his body. He is still writing what have you done with your life asshole!

  • @SomniumCorvus WHat album did he win grammy for?

  • @rb7magnetico Grammys are bullshit. Off the top of your head, you could not name the grammys awarded in the 1970's. Music is carried on by the fans. Becker has a huge following, not because he won some silly, meaningless award, but because he was an excellent musician.

  • @cheezwhizrevolution and what affect does your post have to do with me?YOu flew off the handle with your presumption on my musical knowledge.DO you think I do not know who Jason Becker is?

  • @SomniumCorvus i agree that Jason becker is an amazing guitarists. I just believe that 2 things make up an amazing instrumentalist. 1 is skill (jason definitely has that) and the other is theoretical/artistic ability (which jason has, but not like Eddie does). Eddie solos are full of flavor and originiality (at least on the first couple of albums). All Jason does is fly through scales at 1million mph. I can name 100's of guitarists who can also do that.

  • @NathanRyanAllen u have obviously not listened to becker enough....he was able to play ANY style at top level, listen to jasin street, black stallion jam, electric prayer for peace and tons of other songs, then tell me who can play better, i play 5-8 hours per day and still am amazed by becker

  • @westjt17 no i haven't. and im amazed the more i hear. He is a great guitarist. I just wonder what kept him from being bigger.

  • @NathanRyanAllen he was just so young and got close when he got with roth, but 1 week after joining roth he was diagnosed with ALS and couldnt tour, he even had to use smaller strings to record because his hands had already weaker. definately keep looking on youtube for songs of his you haven't heard

  • @NathanRyanAllen Yes there is more to guitar than just speed I never said otherwise. But eddies playing is not more artistic than jason's. Period. Eddies good, but I think some of his fans have been too caught up in there "fandom" and his "hits".

  • @jimifriedman18 True. I don't know why i am arguing. They are both great and i respect them!

  • He's a true shredder and a genius. Really appreciate his courage and determination, after a long drop from his music career, he still manages to climb back. A true fighter i must say. <3

  • " 'emo' is the shorter term for Emotional." The correct sentence should read. " 'emo' is short for emotional." Are you finished yet?

  • "Keep up with your grammar though, you will need to work on it before you start 7th grade this year." - Haha, poor grammar. You should have used a semicolon after "though." Once again, you make an arse of yourself.

  • @MarcusWellf No, there is no need for a semicolon. "Keep up with your grammar though" isn't a complete sentence, hence the comma. You have failed once more.

  • "He was famous for being in van halen, before being famous for his guitar skills." - Again, you make no sense. He playing was one of the main attributes of the band. For Eddie, fame existed on both planes...Some kids are really obtuse these days. You keep talking out of the wrong hole and put you foot in it every time you try and make a point.

  • @MarcusWellf "He playing was one..." "and put you foot in it" You're obviously mad since your grammar and spelling is spiraling even more out of control. You don't even know the meaning of the word obtuse, do you? You probably heard your math teacher say that, and you thought that it would be a good word to use against Grown Ups thinking that they aren't going to know what that word means. It's sad to watch someone who keeps losing at a debate, still carry on thinking they are right. Sooooo sad.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - Sounds like your a little pissed-off now kid...I'm doing you a favor. Someone has to teach you some respect and make you grow-up.

  • @MarcusWellf thats actually "You're". And if I recall, it was you who mad the first attack calling me a "sandnig"? If that's the way your "brain" works, then you may go and live on thinking that you're right. Hey, ignorance is bliss eh? Keep up with your grammar though, you will need to work on it before you start 7th grade this year.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - What kind of loser either cares or correct grammar on Utube. YOU'RE even more pathetic than I originally thought.

  • @MarcusWellf Calm down pal. There is no need to be using Caps Lock to express your uproaring anger. I'm trying to help you here, man. "cares or correct grammar" either take out the cares and add an "s" after correct, or take out correct, and add "about". I don't care if you lack grammar. I just think it's always fun to point out your grammatical errors, even though you will call me a moron. Example being children. You're coming back for more and more abuse. You don't like being proven wrong huh?

  • @MuhammadSweepmez -I find someone as lost as you quite amusing. Just keep it coming.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - Just "86" yourself now kid. You have no future.

  • @MarcusWellf Haha, You're mad.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - At your mom - ABSOLUTELY. She should have swallowed.

  • @MarcusWellf You are 12 and what is this? Mom jokes are only for people of your age.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - Mom jokes never go out of style; especially when moms keep delivering creatures like yourself.

  • @MarcusWellf Thats why you're 12. I win.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - If I was 12, that would still make me your elder. Your emotional state is on an emo level.

  • @MarcusWellf "Your emotional state is on an emotional level"

Nice, I like how you made no sense by using the same word incorrectly in the same sentence.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - I said "emo" - haha. You keep demeaning yourself with each passing comment. Why don't you just give up?

  • @MarcusWellf "emo" is the shorter term for Emotional. Derp. Look, I've got shit to do, so you can stay here and talk to yourself if you want.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - " 'emo' is the shorter term for Emotional." Wrong again - kid. It is not. Only a complete geek would not understand what "emo" means...Yeah, you have to go and point out the grammatical errors of other posters; I understand.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - I'm sure watching you play guitar would be soooooooooooooooooooo sad. - :)

  • @MarcusWellf Also explaining why you have so many videos of yourself playing guitar eh? You think Eddie Van Halen and Kirk Hammet are gods. Nuff' Said, I win.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - You may have seen me play or you may not. The fact is I don't want your kind of audience.

  • @MarcusWellf That doesn't make any sense. Ahahaha, You're no longer in the realm of grammatical errors making your stupidity. You're now babbling on, like a toddler making no connection to your words and their actual meaning. Gosh, I feel sorry for the people on this video having to see your idiotic comments.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez -I wouldn't expect you to understand anything I say; you're to "wet behind the ears." Maybe ten years from now you'll understand. Then again, maybe you won't. The sin qua non is that you are the stupid kid.

  • @MarcusWellf If you're the adult here, How could you be so immature as to start conflict on the internet? I'm just saying, Only Children, and adults with child like minds express such behavior.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - non-sequitur, you're words are irrelevant - as usual.

  • @MarcusWellf as are yours. Should I call your parents and tell them that you're playing on youtube, when you should be doing your summerschool assignments?

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - Obviously, a geek like yourself got his butt kicked throughout college - and for good reason.

  • @MarcusWellf lol, I win.

  • @MuhammadSweepmez - I never argued that. When it comes to getting no pussy, having no friends, no life, and being a common "tool," you are a big winner.

  • They were actually friends. Music doesn't have to be a competition, it just sucks the fun out of things at times. The way we view music as competition, -it's the reason Marty prefers Japan's music scene. As a final note I doubt anyone who commented on this video could play even close to EVH or Jason, so what makes some of us think were even worthy to compare them lol?? EVH and Jason together to fight ALS : /watch?v=H2LaB-zIN8I&feature=related

  • Jason just handed Eddie his own ass!

  • must have been evh himself who gave this one a thumbs down

  • @dbshredful It coulda been Yngwie...

  • The shred sounds like back to the future when marty is playing and make that solo and the tricks with the guitar but more epic

  • Wow it sounds like Eddie on steroids... he probably could play the original blindfolded

  • Very impressive. He has his own style and kicks *ss!

  • if god manifested himself into a guitar player he would be jason becker!!" :)

  • wow that axe rocks lol 1.3.5.7.9.12.15.17.!!! :)

  • wow....

  • who ever says becker isnt better than eddie obviously is not a guitarist

  • Comment removed

  • @reapertcm lets all name the great songs Becker Wrote??????? ok lets start with?mmmmmm lets think mmmmmmm

  • @downincognito72

I'll start with all of his solo stuff? Cacaphony stuff.... End of The Beginning is pretty much one of the most amazing musical compositions I've ever heard. Before you respond with what I expect you to respond with, a song being famous doesn't make it great, and a great song doesn't have to be famous.

  • @JarkManes87 hey its cacophony not cacaphony

  • @ryudragon12 my bad.... typo...

  • @JarkManes87 no problem man

  • @reapertcm Guitarst here. I don't like this one bit. Sure, JB can do some shit that EvH cannot do but that doesn't necessarily make him a better guitarist. I listened to this whole version of Hot for teacher and found it dull and boring. EvH can play a simple riff sparkling and exciting, that is another type of virtuosity.

  • @reapertcm Most of what I've seen of Becker boils down to "Look, I can do arpeggios!" Good for him. I don't want to discredit JB in any way, I wish I could do arpeggios like him. I am just not impressed when it comes to making a pleasurable listening experience.

  • Comment removed

  • becker just destroyed van halen

  • @reapertcm not these days he doesnt ,

  • The intro just smokes EVH away...

  • pics of Jason in his wheelchair are so sad. The only way I can look at them is remembering how he didn't give up and how he's still writing music without the use of anything but his eyes

  • I don't feel tardy. . .

  • Well, Jason might be faster in soloing and taping, but in rythm guitar parts...Eddie is unmatched!

  • id rather listen to this in its current quality than the real version in studio...what does that say

  • @yourmaker74 That you're a moron, just saying...

  • WOW i'm actually spechless here.......my mind just got blown...JB68

  • 00:46 shit i have to skip that part of the video..... it almost made me cry the first time

  • First impressing me more than Yngwie at Black Star and now this? Go BECKER! What a legend!

  • no offense to eddie but u just got schooled and this is a demo its sad how underated he is

  • This is incredible

  • eddie just got owned.. BIG TIME.

  • Si existiera Dios no hubiese permitido que este hombre deje de tocar, y tanto capullo por ahi...

  • holy shit!! jason is the man...jason is such a humble guy being taking from all his abilitys he still manages to compose...on the other hand evh still has all his yet he still drowns himself in a bottle and can barely play

  • Just go to 2:20 and listen to the solo. Too bad nobody does it like Jason, man.

  • i don't understand why god took that tallent away from us, and why take it from jason , one of the nicest people you could ever meet !

  • @alagogo cuz god was afraid he would get more people to love him than himself;D

  • I don't think this was a studio session.

It was the recording Jason made to audition. There were three tracks he sent to DLR on this tape

  • What's more remarkable is that he recorded this with the thinnest strings possible because he was so weak he could barely play.

  • yeas thats own EVH

  • song totally owned

  • and you thought your favorite guitar player on Winger was better.... shame on you..

  • go listen /watch?v=58v7Z95F0wE "black stallion" really beautifull

  • Totally awesome!

  • Yeah, in one of his clinics he sweeps what EVH taps for the intro.

He's probably sweeping for the intro of this too.

    AMAZING!

  • Way better than EVH and Eddie is one of ym guitar Gods!! Jason Rules!!

  • LMAO holy shit fuck the tapping intro this shit is amazing

  • dam EVh just got owned with that intro sweep its crazy he dosent finger tap the into

  • @UrbanAssault5150 You have to wonder, if Jason Becker took over from Van Halen and never became sick. Would EVH be less revered?

As you said, he fucking owned the intro of this

  • @johnaiton Of course EVH would be revered. Look at what EVH created...no one since EVH has mad an impact as much as EVH has...no disrespect to Becker he is amazing but him Yngwie,Satriani,Vai,Rhoads etc ride on the shoulders of EVH. You can't erase what EVH has done even if you play a song HE created better than him.

  • @rb7magnetico lol Agreed, Too bad people went towards metallica instead of Death and Atheist, That would of been a major change today.

  • @rb7magnetico Eddie was a major part in rock guitar, but yngwie came along and really raised the game for other players. Everyone who is anyone that wanted to play at stupid speeds were imitating yngwie over eddie. As much of an asshole as yngwie is he really was the first to be playing at shit crazy speeds in metal music.

  • @MrElfro89 No doubt YM raised the bar in certain facets of metal. It maybe that some chose YM over EVH but those who were smart combined the 2 styles.

  • @rb7magnetico lol evh didnt make that much of an impact

All the guitarist you mentioned probably made a bigger impact

  • @MattyyWW with all respect do some research. Just from your response I don't think you were alive or even born in EVH prime 77-86. No doubt Becker is more affluent than EVH but did he make an impact on the music scene as much as EVH? No..

  • @rb7magnetico evh isnt even that good

that song vhe does about volcanoes is prettty good but thats about it

  • @MattyyWW again that is your unresearched opinion. He is a self taught guitarist that started a band and made him and his band very succesful. I can say the same about Clapton but I won't ignore the impact he has made or say he isn't that good. Now he is considered a relic to some but from 77-86 he was at least arugably good.

  • @rb7magnetico I'm only messing with you xD I understand and appreciate that EVH made a massive impact but compared to Jason he's not all that amazing. In some ways he's pretty overrated but there's no denying he's a brilliant Guitarist.

  • @MattyyWW it's all cool

  • @MattyyWW Totally lol'd at volcanoes. What you say is true though. People admire musicians for being original, even when they've been surpassed. Jason is definitely better in almost every way, really, especially when you hear his recent compositions. Final note of this compelling comment: EVH seems like an egocentric ass all the time, which puts a damper on any guitarist for me.

  • @YummyBananaFish I bet you love Yngwie then :')

  • @MattyyWW Hah! Exactly man. I'd take Gilbert over Yngwie anyday, and his down-to-Earth nature has a lot to do with it. Coincidentally, just got home from seeing Paul in London!

  • @YummyBananaFish Ah man I feel the exact same, once you've heard one Yngwie song you've pretty much heard them all, whereas Paul Gilbert is basically a jack of all trades guitar wise and I never get bored of his stuff xD I'm fucking jealous man, I want to see him so bad! My friend told me the other day he's seen him three times, got a plectrum then Paul got a chinese and started talking to everyone about how good it was after :') Such a legend

  • @MattyyWW Hey this was my 4th time, and I got a pick before too! Although he never talked about Chinese food when I saw him, haha. He's awesome live, never misses a note and real friendly. Hope you see him someday.

  • @UrbanAssault5150 not in this lifetime bro , thats just shredding crap , his rythem isnt close to VHs

  • @UrbanAssault5150 EVH could NEVER get owned!!!!

  • @phlip5150

    Until Jason started playing.

  • @D1vid3By0 Bullshit!!! Sweeps are one of the EASIEST thing to do. AND part of skillful playing is being able to write great music which Jason LACKS OF. He played the intro doing sweeps probably because he couldn't do Eddies tapping part.

  • @phlip5150 I don't agree with you. Skillful playing isn't the same as imaginative playing. It's even further removed from the creative process of composing music. They are three totally independent skills. It's wholly possible for someone to playing a piece skillfully but totally devoid of imagination. Classical musicians do this all the time. It's also possible for someone to be able to create novel, and imaginative interpretations of existing pieces but not be a skilled composer.

  • @phlip5150 The suggestion that Jason couldn't execute the tapping portions of this song is utterly ridiculous. A person with his skill, and coordination would have absolutely no trouble with such a technique. It's a stylistic choice. Considering it anything but that highlights your ignorance regarding his level of technical mastery. He's not exactly my favorite guitarist but his technical command of the instrument is impressive.

  • @phlip5150

Hahahahahaahahaahahahaahahahaahahahahahahaahahaahahahahahahahaahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahaahahahahahahahahaahahahahaahahahaahahahahahahahahahahaahahahaahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahaahahhaahaahahhaahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaahahahahahahahahahhaahaahahhaahhaahhaahahahahahahahahahahahaahhaahahahahaahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaha....AHAHahahahahahaahahahahahahahahaahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I've never read so much bullshit in one comment!

  • @phlip5150

Technique in general is an overrated phenomenon. If one person can learn it, short of the guy having an extra arm or something, anybody else can learn it, too. If you (and your lack of grammatical prowess) can't hear the genius in Jason Becker's playing, you should probably reevaluate what good guitar playing is. Jason's (unrivaled) technique second only to the emotive quality of his music.

  • @Daim0th First off, you all are acting like I have crapped on Jason's skill of playing which I have not. You guys "are" crapping on EVH and THAT'S what I am defending. If it wasn't for guys like EVH, guy's like Jason, Vai, Satch, ect.... would not be playing like they do and that's a fact.
