  • You guys are jerks. You will never have any concept of how hard it is for these people to live with no prospects and no way out. Grow up before God teaches you a lesson.

  • Dey shod put der mone togever an git som toof pase

  • I hope this kid goes to school, he seems smart enough to get out of dodge.

  • 4 words... United States Marine Corps

  • Would love to have one of those quilts

  • This place was the same way when I graduated high school, and ain't much better now. I had to join the Army to find steady work.

  • Dude's woman is SMOKIN' ACES!!!!!!

  • I'd pay 100 bucks for one of those quilts.

  • did... did he just say "buy some pop?" that does not sound like kentucky talk.

  • @pete3great why does that not sound like KY talk? I am from the mountains of SW VA only a few miles from KY and i have always heard people say pop.

  • i wonder how we could get ahold of these people...i would love to buy a quilt from granny...she reminds me of my own gramma

  • Those quilts are awesome!

  • a foreigner would know more about American history than these"people'

  • @dapappacn According to your profile you are from China. I can only imagine what you learn about American history in China. If it's anything like what your government teaches you about Tibet and Taiwan, I'm sure it's propaganda. I know that the American education system is sadly lacking, but nothing compares to the stuff the Chinese government feeds its people. Only North Korea is worse.

  • 2:40.Clint swindled the old woman out of another 5 bucks for a sixer of Pabst. And he used his weedeater on that whole small yard because I didn't see a mower.

  • @stickysul3stance I have a landscaping business & weed eating is much harder then mowing.

  • One of those quilts looks sick! She must of stumbled across some boomers to eat before she thought to make that one.

  • @stickysul3stance Fools such as you -- we're tickled pink !

  • :56 he's reading "1984"

  • that young guy has the right idea, he needs to get away from them sorry assed uncles of his and get out in the world.

  • but they have so many land why the just dont seed something? or plant some appletrees?

they could earn alot of food so that nobody needs to be hungry.

  • Good Lord, my mother would pay hundreds of dollars for one of those quilts and I'm not joking.

  • wow Hazzard County

  • To the comments about the clothing not being in style, well duh. These are people with not much money, their clothing mostly comes from donation places (such as goodwill) and are hand me downs. These people have a lot more to be concerned about than whether they are currently in style or not, and we could all afford to be less concerned with fashion.

  • Damm it ive just fell in love with wandas bare feet? im sorry rita bowling?

  • i wonder what Clint's doing now...

  • @velvetinetable Searching for 16 year old girls. He sleeps with them and promises to support them with his lawn mowing money.

  • That woman could make a fortune selling those beautiful quilts!

  • Clint says no one is there to hep him. He needs to learn how to help himself. Damn it. We tax payers feed, cloth and shelter them.Always with their hand out. I some times wids I could sit on my arse and get me a free food and check, but no I would go batshit sitting around all day. Thank you lord for my life ( health ) and job I' am lucky fer sure. And I hope, the cycle will be broken someday,

  • @paranrm please bear in mind he's a teenager and has no idea what living on his own is like. you can see that they don't sit on their ass all day - the money they receive from the government goes towards food they grow, harvest and process themselves, and they try to support themselves with craftwork and collecting roots in addition to the government assistance. poverty like this exists everywhere in the world, in every state.

  • Clint says no one is there to hep him. He needs to learn how to help himself. Damn it. We tax payers feed, cloth and shelter them.Always with their hand out. • The best govt assistance these people could be provided is free sterilization for all. The fewer mouths you have to feed, the easier you can climb out of poverty, and the less burden there is on taxpayers.

  • Those quilts are so beautiful! I'd love to learn how to do that.

  • Kid doesn't even ask for more money. Inherently good people, I say.

    Capable? no, but so what.

  • Is Polly deaf?

  • ha clint has a charlotte hornets hat on!! Old School

  • @TheUnknownGrower Oh yeah...they are really splurging! *sarcasm*

  • people get married so early there,i wonder how they are doing now?

  • When was this filmed 1993? Girls haven't looked like that since I was in high school.

  • @Briansgarage I know I looked exactly like her in 6th grade. lol

  • @Briansgarage I know I looked like that in 6th grade....1992!

  • @Briansgarage I know I looked exactly like that girl in 6th grade....1992!

  • @Briansgarage Filmed in 1999.

  • Why do these people buy their food? they can grow and shoot their own food for free, anybody with land can prosper with hardly any money at all.

  • haha the daughter is soo much thinking about her new black boyfriend right now...

  • theres places like this all over the states. here in oklahoma people think the indians got rich off the casino.s lol last i heard the gambino.s was still collecting the money. and i dont think they are going to donate any money to soon to a bunch of indians to live better in oklahoma. most of the money goes to new york where they live. lol do ya think i could move in with them since they make all that money down here in little ole oklahoma? i doubt it. lol

  • shirley's cute. she's the type who'd move to l.a. and make it big. lofl

  • man his dad just slams him to much...wants his as to fail..needs to change his tune with that boy, give him a chance to make his own... you dont know what hard times is i walked up hill both ways for bread...man he should just go with his uncle and dont look back..but hey thats his choice..."wink"

  • Aww hes so sweet Clint thinking about him and his woman thats a real man gentlemen!!

  • @ZystynaZay not really, she'll just leave him for another guy if she goes to school. that's real life!

  • @TheNewMusicNetwork I watched the rest of it and poor dude..the stars werent lined up for him and his plans with her to get married and stuff...well it happens like ya said :D

  • @ZystynaZay like I said, that's life. but then again so is being dealt dark hair and dark eyes(her real color). hahaha

  • Oh I LOVE the quilts! I want some. I would totally buy some!!

  • Larry, why are you so ashy? put on some lotion

  • Iree and her mum have NO wrinkles! =)

  • Atleast Clint's 'old lady' in fine.

  • Shirley Couch is from Hazzard County? Love it.

  • what i wouldnt give for a hand made quilt.

  • I can appreciate what the kid is going through--he's facing his own hard time--and all the parent want to do is burden him with a guilt trip on how hard they had it---that has to be one of the worst things parents can do-- the least they can do is acknowledge their son's coming challenges, even if they aren't as adverse as their own--but then again hind sight is 20/20 maybe he's going through worse than them in ways they can not detect for one reason or another-

  • you cant be happy with a welfare check and a rundown dump. the only happy is the family

  • I am proud of my mountain heritage but the difference between back in the day and now, is that folks were more independent. My kinfolk would NOT take charity of any kind, especially from the government. How many times I heard my grandmother say, use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. On the other hand, all of the kids left home for jobs somewhere else, and never went back, except to visit.

  • Old man Bass is now deceased, Iree is very sick and bed ridden, lonzo is still on Prozac, Clint lives at home and has a daughter " no woman", the rest of the family is still the same on Welfare after eleven years since the Documentary was filmed.

  • Poor & eating KFC? HAHA I love it!

  • @berryblitz07 Love the "Kurtz Salad Mustard" on the table.

  • Have always loved this documentary. First time I saw it I came in towards the end with all Clint's drama and thought it was some mockumentary !! Love A Boy's Life too

  • they could create the true appalachia blanket company, hand made blankets from appalachia... its unique, and warm... buy them

  • Dude - I'd get my legs broken if I spoke to my mom like that ...

  • She's pretty cute for a Appalachian chick. These kids are making the biggest mistakes of their lives. Go to school, fuck getting married at 18.

  • eat my shit fag

  • Hey I dont give a shit what colour the cock is ....... i just suck and slurp and suck and slurp all nite long .... im such a tramp i would suck on yours and eat your sewer arse out too ..... maggot. :D

  • Pardon? What is your point? If I gave the impression I disrespect these folks then your wrong ..... I greatly admire these people, theyre dam good examples of human beings living their lives in their way. And a beautiful way it is too. So settle down there junior, dont get your self all worked up about nuthin. You on the other hand are a bag of shit slop, judging by your ignorant home page. Why dont you go roll around in the sewer where you scumbags belong.

  • Clint rides the short bus.

  • iI know what would happen to me if I ever talked to my dad like that. He would smack the taste out of my mouth. join the Marine corps you little pussy

  • hell yeah cincinnati

  • That was a thick garden! And maw-maw can make a nice quilt!

  • Her daughter in law, looks awfully young.

  • Those quilts are beautiful. I would buy one

  • @dawniemori

iree reminds me of my great-grandma, she made quilts, lived through hard times, and she taught me a hellvua lot

  • i know, if i ever cused round my parents or grandparents id get popped

  • Not to say that there aren't any nice people from cities-there are, I've met them too, one is my best friend (who PREFERS living here over Cincinnati, her home town). I've loved living in the big city, but I've loved coming home and being at peace with the natural beauty of the land itself, not drowning myself in the sorrows that surround it. Yeah, the drug problem, the poverty; it can't be ignored, but don't let them eclipse the positives. There may not be as great in number, but they exist.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, Kate, there are A LOT of "transplants"- people from Appalachia move off to the bright lights & big dreams of the city for work reasons, flourish, develop a love-hate relationship with their Appalachian home, and live "normal" lives until they come back here to be buried. And don't act so posh, I've met plenty of city people who've made me wonder if they didn't call their father "Uncle Daddy".

  • In this film, when someone says "there's nothing here for him", it's literally true. Whoah.

  • Where is the still?

  • I wouldnt personally want to live there

but at least they look relativity happy

thats better than a lot of people in cities.

  • @readinglts well i agree with ya. but you have to understand i think you do by reading your comment is thats the way they was born and raised. so the bright lights drive most of them crazy. i was raised the same way and went all over the world and states and ended up 30 miles from where i was born and raised. lol i guess we dont venture to fur out there. lol godbless.

  • At least Clint sounds like he has some sense about him.

  • @lizzieish Yeah. I wish I had the money to give him and his girlfriend enough for them both to go to college. It's so sad that people in this country can't get an education and live unless you have tons of money.

  • @lizzieish He does and he wants to better his life and not become what he sees all around him. Sadly, no one will support his dream and he will likely be "stuck like chuck".

  • I sure wish my son could find a nice clean girl like that. All he can find in the city here all want to party and run around.

Maybe I need to go to Tenn girl hunting for one like that.

  • Better let your son do the huntin' there, Buddy, or you might end up in trouble;)

  • @rasberry123 Kentucky, this documentary is filmed in Perry Co. KY.

  • @stacynrobin1 Thank you for the reply and strighting me out about it being in Ky instead of Tenn.

You know... after watching all 10 parts, the Grannie bout sumed it up... the door is always open for the kids, food on the table and a place to sleep. How often I have heard my mother and grandmother say the very same words.

  • Iree made some gorgeous quilts. I'm from East Tennessse and have 11 quilts just like that made by my mamaw and I adore them. I now live in London, England and go to University for fashion design. If it weren't for Mamaw teaching me to make quilts and clothes for my dolls when I was about 5 or 6 years old, I wouldn't have learned to sew and therefore wouldn't be here doing this. Thank God for talented women like Iree and Mamaw!!

  • She sold some quilts 7 years ago? Seven YEARS?... and they wonder why they are POOR? You know, you can sell them on E-Bay now. Yes, that's right. On the in....ter....net; "internet". Ahh, what's the use? They won't have an internet provider in "Hellhole Holler" anyway.

  • 1. through nine all happen in the big city too. Isn't that funny how things like that work out??

  • clint's girlfriend is really beautiful :)

  • What county is this? Is it Perry County?

  • Indeed it is.

  • The name of the town they live in is Penisburgh Kentucky. Can you imagine? A town named Penisburgh!!!

  • I bet all the women wanna live there.

  • Her quilts are beautiful.

  • All you people should go visit Southern Eastern Ky. You city slicken, foreign driver, desk sittin, liberal hippies!

  • Yup..they actually have fucking shitty dieting way.

They look quite sexy though and that what counts...

    bottom line!

  • It always kills me to see the amount of soda, junk food & cigs. they consume...I know nutrition is probably one of the last things on their mind, but you can't possibly be expected to have energy for a job, etc. when all you consume is sodium, high fructose corn syrup & fat. I understand there is a serious addiction to Mtn. Dew in this region - the caffeine & sugar is used as a mild anti-depressant & they even put in their baby's bottles when they can't afford milk, etc. So sad...

  • clint is the man, no wonder he has the hottest broad in town (even if shes not that good looking)

  • it's sad to see a hard workin boy want to piss his life away over a dum littel bitch

  • Does anyone know what happened to Clint? i know he left the hollow once & came back,is he still there? I wish Rory Kennedy would do a follow up on all,I'm fascinated with the family.God bless them.

  • Why are their pop cans so outdated? O.o

  • The cans weren't outdated at the time this documentary was filmed. ( over 10 years ago. )

  • this show is mesmerizing.(sorry if i spelled that wrong)

  • I was wondering where all my tax money went.. I live in Kentucky and I've never seen anyone like these people.

  • Go to hazard, pikeville, you need to experince your state.

  • Damn, he ate weeds for over 6 hours for 30 bucks. That old lady shoulda reached deeper into her pocket. Weedeating is NOT easy.

  • You ain't lyin.

Cuttin grass alone with a push mower ain't easy.

Shoot, I can weed eat for 2 hours and get paid that.

  • yes I agree poor guy she will definitely leave him...I live in Kentucky and its not like this everywhere people, dont get the wrong picture...there is a difference between " I'm not able" to work and " I wont" work there are jobs here you just have to look.

  • Well there aren't jobs there! They are not jobs in far Eastern Kentucky! I am not on welfare and I live in Kentucky, just not in Appalacha. But trust me you go live where they live and let me know if you find a job.

  • I feel so bad for clint...he really wants to get off that land and better himself, but i honestly dont think its gonna happen. How sad,if he does put his"wife" through school, i can see her leaving him in the future and moving away....poor guy

  • I Truly want to help these People so badly.Better yet,i WILL Help People from this region. If your a Mountain Person of Kentucky etc,msg me on here, make a vid showing your situation,n i want to help Your family.God Bless~

  • My Mother-in-law can Quilt like that, & My grandma in Tennessee can as well, It's so hard! I'm learning, but once you try, you really know how hard it is to do! Such a beautiful art! She could make hundreds of dollars if sje were to sell those!

  • I cried tears when I saw those quilts..Because they were beautiful and to think she did them by hand. I think of all the time, effort and sacrifice that went into them.

  • Beautiful quilts. I can't believe this familiy lives in the Most Powerful Country in the World :-O . Their lives are very similar at the lives of people in Mexico; poor, without jobs, schools very far from home, no opportunities to improve their life.

The romance between the teenagers hit home.

  • they put alot of rime effort and patience into

    those beutiful quilts.

  • That is so true, those quilts would go for 1000$ easy here at a Quilting fair in my town. They are so gorgeous and there is so much detail in them. They're flawless.

  • maybe even more than that i dont know i do know that i sleep good under blankets like that because i know that patch quilt blankets the ones who make them put alot of time and love into them.

  • SAME! I have one, but it's no design. It is the most comfortable blanket/comforter I have and I have around 10.

My aunt knits and makes blankets and such and they go for a good was of cash!

  • my mom is always buying handmade blankets and quilts and comforter sets all the time at the flea market and they sell for alot of money.

  • So does my Scrama, lol.
