For a simple Storage server, Pentium3 + Debian/slack/Bsd all the way.
Nevertheless, with the extra $, 2 core quad allows him to use processing time for some heavy video editing/ host multiple game servers & whatever the fuck he wants ;). Having moar processing power always feels really good even un-used.
using 2 core2quads is impossible, those cpu dont support more than 1 socket. seagate is a terrible hard drive choice overall, extremely low life... terrible build for a STORAGE server even if this it was good choices.
I think you went too far with the requirements. This is clearly not a budget project.
2 quad cores? Get out...I've had 175TB storage servers with only a dual core and performance was never an issue.
How much ram did you put? More ram means disks have more cache and may be faster but still..
Seagate? I would go with Hitachi all the way. In a year, I can have up to 5 failed hard drives, all of them seagate or WD, Hitachi on the other hand performs wonderfully.
very nice plug. you ignored 99.9% of the market and allot don't deserve that. just as an example for the completely computer illiterate amd is cheaper than an equivalent intell with little problems.
That's a pretty good video. Found it via the related search while looking at the Sun Blade 8000 P (Modular blade server) video from SC2k6, Tampa, FL. And no, I don't do my own videos. System deployment time is very short; it wouldn't be so bad if I had someone filming while I was bringing the systems up online.
Thanks. Would love to know how you decided to watch it or how you found it. Also, have you looked at others we've done? you can search for rammageditor.

I think you need to google first.

how much is that supposed to cost?

Seagate drives are the only drive most companies license for use in their products. If it's not a Seagate with the correct firmware your screwed.

Why spend all that dough and then put a bunch of stupid Seagates in it?

No, I have others. I would love if you looked at them too. Can you search by rammageditor? If not let me know.
How about yourself? Do you do videos?

@rammageditor Im sorry but could you please explain the need for 2 quad core cpus in a storage server?
