How does the ZX-14 feel on extended rides? Say, 2-3 hours or more at a time?
I'll be getting a new bike after the new year and it's between this and a CBR1000rr. Everyone I've spoken to (even guys with the CBR) have admitted the ZX14 has better comfort/ergos for the street. I also found the ZX14 is less to insure (for me).
I was hoping to Demo both at the Cycle World show in DC come December, but learned they won't be doing demos this year.
So ride for any length of time? How's your butt feel?
I've done 2 hours (about a tank of gas) stopped an gone on. Even my Goldwing friends rarely ride longer than this without stopping for a break. This bike is smooth. It is not a pure sport ridding position. Much more comfortable. I'm not trying to say it's as comfortable as a big bagger. But among the rest of the bikes it is in the top. I sat on an 08 Hayabusa, which I loved, and this 14. My decision came down to comfort and the 14 won. I'm 6'1 225 lbs.
I'm exactly the same height and weight as you...and the comfort thing is big on my list of must haves. I'm 36 (pushin' 37), so I definitely don't want my bike beating me down anymore than my regular does already.
I always considered the Honda Goldwing the Cadi or motorcycles (at least the luxury end of it) but I guess you could say the ZX-14 is the more sporty model lol.
Coincidentally I went ahead and got a New (was still in the crate) Silver 2008 ZX-14 on the 11th. Have not had a chance to really ride it yet (too cold) but judging by the ride home, I LOVE it!!!
Yeah I was bitten by the mod bug recently. Stainless brake lines, fly removal, marble mod (to block the hose to the clean air system), PCV, Muzzy full system, even have a GIPRO on the way so I can lock it into a single gear mapping and eliminate the speed limiter.
So much more I want to do as well, like an aftermarket shock (I'm a heavy guy), fender eliminator (cosmetic stuff takes a backseat to performance on this thing), double bubble windscreen, etc. Lots of little things to do yet.
I think the ride is plush myself, now I stretched and lowered and my shock revalved for drag racing and it is stiff but I still love riding it for hours on end, but the factory settings ride real nice, very smooth not buzzy
The area I was riding in is a highly policed area. Also I don't like to get to fast with traffic ahead. If you mean, why grab the clutch instead of just backing off the throttle, I don't know....saving gas?(lol). Check out my other videos. There's one where I don't grab the clutch until 187mph. Also wanted to say I just sold my Hayabusa and am looking at at ZX 14. My first street bike was a yamaha FZ1, had a Harley pass me one day on the interstate, I was doing 75MPH, he did'nt wave or even acknoledge me so I let him get about 3/4 of a mile ahead of me and I rocketed past him on the FZ at 160...did he really think he could be me?? LOL
