Theoretically , an explosion would generate shock waves that would reach the structure of any ship close enough to witness the phenomena. Once the shock waves interact with the hull, the hull would transfer the shock waves to the inside of the ship and be detectable as sound once they started moving through the atmospher ein the ship. Sirt of like the telephones we used to make out of string and 2 cans when we were kids.

By your logic, if you cut the string connecting the two cans, the sound waves would somehow pass through "nothingness" to reach the other can. This is, obviously, not how it works.
