To understand what is so desctructive about thermite, you have to realize that it's not really an explosive reaction like, say, TNT, it's a fast-burn reaction, where the oxidized compounds get incredibly hot and basically melt through anything under it until it expends its energy.

This means you could effectively dig a very deep hole using thermite, or do precision destruction.

Most of the time, unless you're a professional contractor, you cannot just buy thermite in mixed form. You have to mix Iron III Oxide, and Aluminum; both in powder form. And then you need a starting fire to set it off, usually a strip of magnesium. There is a certain proportion of Iron III Oxide and Aluminum that you must have, but you can find it online or in the Anarchists cookbook.

Yeah - agreed. We only had a small amount (about half a cupful) so we were impressed with that, but definitely poor camera action - best we could do at short notice. WATCH THIS SPACE - I just ordered 3Kg of Thermite and a Tripod!!!
