this is a insult to minor threat, and your generalizations on emo are all a bit off base as well considering ian and a bunch of other dc punks 1st termed and play the original genre known as emo-core.i should know,i played shows with them and was also in a early "emo-band" .Retards
This video totally fits the song. It was a song written about being a worry free kid sharing a wild time with good friends, which is totally captured in these video clips. Great job, makes me reminisce about shenanigans I've gotten into with friends of my own ;)
Reading youtube comments about "emo v.s punk" or "what is punk?" or "who is punk?" or "punk is not dead"...it's all bullshit. There are people who truly love punk music and people who truly love the idea that THEY are punk and it is an elite. Fuck all that stereotyping, uniform, fashion, labelling bullshit. I just want to listen to Minor Threat...
You guys who say the video has nothing to do with Minor Threat just don't get it, salad days is about youthful craziness. I'm sure Minor Threat would have loved this video.
Dude, nice... what a cool video of some of your "salad days". I don't know you, but I had my own "salad days" and this totally reminds me of them. Thanks.
is the beating at 1:25 real, I hear theres footage on the internet of straight edgers beating one of their own to death with bats cos he was caught smoking or drinking
Minor threat are a HC band, Emo and punk started out as the same and dont pretend its not just an off shoot now, check out rites of spring and then tell me that emo has nothing to do with the punk scene.
WHAT A DICK HEAD! THERES A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PUNK AND EMO! PUNK WILL NEVER DIE! EMO WANTS TO DIE! SO THEY DIE EVERY MINUTE! PUNK SURVIVES! EMOS JUST STAND THERE AND DO CRAP! PUNKS HAVE A BADASS ATTITUDE AND EMOS CRY IN CORNERS! FUCKING GET IT??
@20mohawk No, salad days was the "A" side song of the original 45 and a different song altogether than 'stumped". You might want to actually do a little research before replying brother.
lol... is that what punk is suppose to be about? Middle class kids in the suburbs? Isn't this conforming? You obviously can't hear JACK SHIT! I'd rather everyone that lives like you to get shot pointblank in the head, so we can rebuild a nation with intellectuals. you can go ahead and reply but i dont check messages ever. :P just to let you know your a loser.
@20mohawk I think you should listen to the lyrics. The song is about how people overly reminiscence about the past and how the past wasn't as great as people make it out to be. The "Do you remember when? Well so do I. We call those the salad days." It's mocking those who make conversation about nothing, and people jumping in saying "oh, I remember that too."
Pay very close attention to the closing of the song: "we call those the good old days, what a fucking lie. I call it a lie." Enough said.
This song is about how being stuck in the past is pointless, and that when ever you get nostalgic it's bullshit because you make it sound more amazing than it actually was.
@TheSkunker what? death metal is good if you find the right stuff. you like punk so you have a good taste.. try some good death metal bands besides cannibal corpse
@AIC2374 well to be honest, I kind of despise metal. I had a friend who was a big time metalhead back in high school, so I've heard plenty of it (everything from whitechapel to job for a cowboy to allegaeon). i just can't get into it. punk has much more substance than most musical genres, in my opinion, and that's why it's still my favorite to this day. whatever. to each his own.
@TheSkunker well of course, if he shows you whitechapel and job for a cowboy, i dont blame you!.. if you wanna et into dm listen to what i listen to.. melodeath

The people who said Fugazi is emo are the same people who said shit like BFMV and Trivium were Heavy Metal and Soulja Boy was Hip Hop. Lol, what kind of fucking decade do we live in where people don't know their music for shit.
i dont think fugazi is emo but they did help influence it.but it was a lot of jawbreaker and rites of springz that were the first emo acts i know off.but even then emo is now like some kind of clothing style and not a type of music now.
they are not emo they where emotional hardcore punk now emo now days is a completely different thing and its shit because they are just part of the bunch of assholes who think matv is the rule of music in this world
there is no such thing as 'emotional hardcore punk' because 'hardcore punk' automatically negates 'emo' ian mckay even defines 'hardcore' music as 'beyond punk', hence 'hardcore'. emo is the other end of the stectrum.
aint saing there is such thing as emotonal hardcore punk.but what people call emotional hardcore punk like jawbreaker and fugazi i find better then emo bands.
no need to call me cunt dude.rites of springz certainly influenced a lot of emotional hardcore bands and some people do consider them emo.not fall outboy emo but they add a lot of emotion into there songs and they play the style hardcore so emotional hardcore.u get it?
it doesn't mean they're emo, they've said, they're not emo, they never played emo. they just played fucking music they loved, that's it. and fuck! hardcore isn't emo. CUNT!

Thanks all you guys for the comments. I make these videos because by the time we all grow up and grow old, we will forget just how much fun we used to have.
Punk has always been about free thinking and not placing restrictions on the way people live. If you think that anyone who listens to X subculture of punk should conform to X image then you kinda missed the whole point in the first place.
For a lot of people, back when you were kicking the shit with your school friends without a care in the world, those were the salad days. I don't see why the clip isn't relevant.
Pretty cool video, you can't blame the kids for being too young. They are discovering music that was just coming out when I was their age. They can't turn back time! This is what they see so be glad they see it. I wish they could have had the experience I had when Punk was a dirty word and you were treated like a less then second class citizen for being one, it was a blast!!

Take extra care to pay attention to the last lines.
"Do you remember when? Yeah so do I.
We call those the Salda Days.
And do you remember when? Yeah, so do I.
We're gonna call those the good ole' days.
What a fucking lie. I call it a lie."
The entire song is about the memories of youth being overly romantacized.
