I used to live in Lapland, Finland, and the northern lights are just about the only thing I miss. Where I lived, it snows too often so there's only one or two clear nights per week and you really have to be lucky to see them. And that makes them more special, I think. Especially when they are sometimes so light they're hard to see and don't last long. I didn't live in the northest possible place, so maybe that has to do with it.
Here in the far north of Sweden, in Lapland we have northern lights almost every night, but there are some problems and distractions. Cloudy weather, full moon and if the aurora oval is to small or weak. If the sky is clear I will say that we see northern lights, of varying strength, 2-3 nights a week. It can appear in a few seconds and then disappear and some nights you will have it for hours, but no one knows!
