  • If you have active pickups and play dirty it is actually very good on the first few settings. I use it to get some of those low 8 string notes on my seven here and there. only when you starting getting to like a 5th down does it sound digital my opinion.

  • lot of aliasing... weird

  • no thanx i rather use BIG STRINGS AND REALY BE IN DROP C JUST SAYING EVERY THINGS DIGITEL AS IT IS!

  • @jakbm0000000 First, SPELLING, second, if you have 3-4 tunings, having 1 guitar (or 2) and using this would be much cheaper. But hey, if you've got the money for 3-4 guitars (plus backups), go right ahead.

This is a great pedal, but once you get too low (more than 1 step 1/2) it gets "digital" sounding.

  • 2:50 it sounds like a synthesizer :O

  • @Xitahh its just an octave sound :)

  • got one of these thing a few days ago....

I'm freaking hooked!!! lol I can finally play some new material without playing with spaghetti strings :p its a great tool in my opinion

  • It gets a bit muffly after a few half steps

  • Sorry Paul, but it sounds like total shit

  • This is the first vid I've seen him in where his tone doesn't sound like a circular saw.

  • Is this pedal actually sound as good as actual drop tuning the guitar? Is there any drawback? I recently joined a metal band that plays in drop c tuning

  • @prabowoputra if your using standard 9 gauge strings which is the main gauge string type for most guitars, this pedal is probably better... as you can keep the strings tight and still get a dropped sound ...ive got one of my 9 gauge string guitars in drop c... its sounds ok but the strings are abit jelly like the only way to get a tighter sound is either to buy 10 gauge or 11 gauge strings or use this pedal.

  • Is there a pedal which can instantly create open tunings such as open A,E,D and G ?

  • @triplejudy You can't alter the pitch of particular string without tuning it.

  • great black metallish sound at 3:34 Paul :P

  • anybody wonder if you could possibly hack the pedals that have the usb and use software?

  • Yes. These pedals are rather cool. BUT! When you play in drop tuning (especially metal) iy just feels different to play with a real downtuned guitar rather than with a pedal. But i understan that if you have a floyd rose it will be annoying to swtch tuning often.

  • this kinda makes me feel sad that people are so fucking lazy they cant even tune their guitar down they use a pedal i call lazy americans

  • @thatguy1035 what the fuck does being american have to do with anything? dont be a twat dude, without us "lazy americans" blues, rock, punk, solid body guitars, reverb, multitrack recording, none of it would exist! dont hate man, just play

  • Comment removed

  • @hydralisk3313 african AMERICANS, rock is a sub genre of the blues AND jazz, a distinctively american made music. and yeah america takes things... and makes them better. Also, the guitar is NOT distinctly spanish, it comes from asian instruments with design influence from the romans. either way, you're just hating on america and lumping us together as uneducated heathens... which shows only your ignorance.

  • @dandemon1989 African Americans yes, it was during the time you Americans adressed them as "niggers". hmm

No, the asian intruments were stringed instruments, not the guitar actually. You are mistaken.

  • @hydralisk3313 lmao african AMERICANS. solid body guitars=les pauls, stratocasters, etc. were invented here. don't be jelly broseph.

  • Comment removed

  • @hydralisk3313 i'm only talking about solid bodies

  • @GettinGuitarded Then your previous statement as well as this one is unsubstantial.

  • @hydralisk3313 lol you make no fucking sense man, just stop being so butt hurt that america had such a huge influence over the electric guitar and rock. maybe one day your country will invent something, probably not but hey lets not give up hope now hahaha

  • @GettinGuitarded Butthurt? heh stupid American.

  • @Metal. I guesse I can deal with that then. I'd like to play the original Dragon Ball Z theme in drop c tuning. Would probably sound sweet like that. xp

  • Well then its pointless to even get this pedal. I've been hearing you don't have to tune the strings to get those tunings.

  • @jedimastergarcia87

Whaat?? If you want to play something that is 2 half steps down, then this pedal will do wonders for you. When people talk about Drop C or Drop D, that means that your low E string gets down tuned to that specific note, but only that string, the remaining strings stay standard.

  • I want this pedal even more now. So yu DON'T HAVE to tune any strings at all for lets say drop d, d standard, or drop c??

  • @jedimastergarcia87 Basically you tune your guitar up to standard and then you can drop your guitar an entire step for D standard with the pedal. If you want drop D you need to drop your guitar to D using the tuning pegs. Then after your guitar is tuned to drop D you drop the guitar an entire step using the pedal for Drop C tunings

  • i woonder what would happen if you dropped a 9 string down 3 and a half steps O.o

  • @ILoveallguitars it would suck even more..

  • @ILoveallguitars you would probably be able to hit the brown note... if you know what that is? lol

  • @ILoveallguitars in-audible

  • @ILoveallguitars uncontrollable diarrhea.

  • @ILoveallguitars probably have a bunch of notes that all sound like this: "blub blub blub blub"

  • new shoes???

  • Oddly i am more interested in that little lick he plays in the start, rather than the pedal.

  • hey all, using this pedal will not affect the guitar's tone??? like if my guitar was in standard tuning and i used it with standard tuning also, then if i turned it off, the sound will sound the same?????

  • so say I have a floyd rose bridge guitar in standard and put it to half steps down can I play drop d songs ?

  • @97rockgod yes, but remember that your guitar will sound like standard D

  • I'd like to see someone do solos high up on the neck while using this. I was able to mimic the DropTune with my RP500, but the really high notes get blended in with the original tuning, making for some really poor results.

  • @magirecords2004 you don't need a baritone for any tuning if you don't want one. there's a band called the acacia strain that plays some songs in drop f on six string ESPs. all you need are strings the size of telephone wire and an eq boost.

  • man if the whold band had thi you could use it like standard then click it like 4 steps down for a brutal brake down :)

  • If you are looking to buy one of these morpheus droptune pedals just click on my link below. Thanks

    cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180636147521

  • This sounded like a good idea, but ended up sounding like shit.

Peavey needs to make one of these. :D

  • Cheaper than buying a baritone guitar.

  • @magirecords2004 you dont need a baritone even if your in drop b ! i have never had any problems with a standard 6 string droppiing to b and iv recorded with it to !

  • @munchy040 Yeah, drop B tuning is awesome!

  • has anyone notice that this pedal sounds phasey and awful thru an effects loop?

  • @wilcey thats cos your not ment to put pitch shifting in the FX loop, pitch devices go at the start of the fx chain, infront of he amp, that way they track better

    hope ive helped

  • WANT!! 8O

  • This must be the first guitarworld gear review I've seen where the distorted tone isn't fizzy as all hell.

  • looks very useful! would it work the same on bass or would i end up with shitty tones? sorry i don't know a lot about sound engineering.

  • @xav1011 As far as I know, it should work, though you will never want hit the octave down setting. There maybe a bass version of this though.

  • where can i pick one up? i live near a steves music, and a dominics music, and another store, i kinda forget the name

  • So if i have my guitar tuned to drop D, this will take me down to say A or B ? And is there a simple on and off switch which won't effect my pedal chain ?

  • @Disasterpeice01 I guess you can even go down to Drop G! I'm not sure... But Drop A or Drop B is possible, I'm certain!

  • @MariusBorjans

Awesome thanks man ! I might consider buying this, so like you can go down ? but not back up ? you have to switch it off to go all the way back up ? Sounds good to me !

  • @Disasterpeice01 I think you got a toggle switch to go one halftone step up or down :)

  • its like an electronic kapo but with more =D

  • @Morethanl1f3 no, capos go the other way!

  • @punish666 Morpheus makes a pedal for that too.

  • fuck i hate paul so damn bad....

  • Look at his disappointed face @1:39. Looks like something is not right...

  • Could you imagine this thing with an 8 string guitar...the sought after brown note. Mother of god.

  • does the pedal work for drop tunings, say if you put your guitar in drop d , can you use this pedal to take it to drop c b and a?

  • @Smoothbassline Yep. Tune your guitar to whatever you want and it will pitch shift your guitar's sound down as far as it'll go.

  • Sounds fucking UNNATURAL !

  • Full steps? This thing doesn't do Eb?

  • @zupperm half step increments, so yes. if youre in E standard, you can get E, Eb, D, Db, C, B, Bb, and A, if im not mistaken. i thinks its funny it doesnt actually do "drop tuning", it just drops the tuning. they should have named it different

  • @zupperm it does.

  • @zupperm Yes it does. Paul is an idiot.

  • @zupperm Tune your guitar in F...and your done lol

  • @zupperm it does do half steps

  • u could probably set ur eq again if you lose some tone

  • Great if you are playing loud but not good if you are on the whisper level.

  • this is for lazy people

  • @garciajuan18 no it ain't this is a great pedal for the people who own guitars that have floyd rose they don't have to set up their guitar every time the want to play in a different tuning

  • looks pretty cool just to mess about with, and if you have a floyd! probs wont use it live though

  • dude that's sick.

  • dirty shoes man !! hausheuahs

  • blah..it rly messes up the sound :\ if u r a sound freak just save some money and buy another guitar!

  • @matnrocknroll this is for live play, you dont have to go and spend a thousand dollars on another nice guitar

  • @matnrocknroll How exactly does it "rly mess up" the sound? People should be given specifics about what exactly any pedal does to the tone of a guitar. Also bear in mind that any effect pedal will color the tone to some degree. This is part of how guitarists come up with signature tones. If the tone degradation is considered negative (to whatever degree), each individual guitarist will have to decide for themselves whether or not the coloration is worth the effect.

  • @EnvyInc yes... but this is kinda bad "coloration" if you can name it like that. You defintely can hear how the tone strugles the more down it goes! Like you would stretch an audio file. It just doesn't work for me...if you like it like it... i don't.

  • @matnrocknroll Tuning a guitar down brings its own challenges. Tone suffers, and the farther down you tune, the larger gauge string you'll have to use to retain proper tension. Intonation suffers as well. I'd also challenge you to find an average concert goer (or music listener for that matter) who would recognize the loss in tone. Guitarists may be tone freaks, but the vast majority of listeners are not.

  • @EnvyInc

"Guitarists may be tone freaks, but the vast majority of listeners are not."

So true, and something we tone freak guitarists need to remember to keep some perspective when frustrated about not having 'that' sound

  • @EnvyInc dont forget bigger string might freak the intonation depending on the string gauge

  • @ottozing Any guitar should have a good setup anyway. At most, about $50 including strings.

  • @matnrocknroll I agree. It's a cool pedal - but the issues with the sound are indeed like using a plugin in pitch shift. Messy..... I'll get one for the studio though !!

  • I couldnt use mine. I play so quitely that I can hear the sound of my strings, so it's sounds like i'm using an octave pedal. So if you only play at home with low volumes I dont recomend this. Other than that. Its wonderful

  • tech-gasm

  • That's actually a great idea! You wouldn't have to tune your guitar in the middle of a live cover set, plus no pissing around with a Floyd for tuning down.

    Do want.

  • Some amazing fucking shit.

  • A lot of the demos I've seen of this pedal, the lower you drop, the quieter the volume gets. Not planning on using it to drop more than 1 1/2 steps max anyway, but... gotta demo one myself I guess. Pain...

  • Oh wow I want this so bad. Fucking songs in so many different tunings it's jarring lol.

  • i want one of these so bad. it would make life so much easier

  • He never once bends a string which should tell you something. There's obviously tracking issues so this thing probably has limited practicality.

  • @ryanern18 yes he does. in the rhythm around 1:40

  • im going to need to watch personal videos because the mic used is horribly muffled, the whole point of watching these vids is to see if i like the way it sounds to buy it

  • I don't know what people are complaining about as far as Floyd Rose tremolos go. I can change the tuning on my Floyd Rose guitars pretty easily. It is pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

  • A mate of mine had one. Latency issues and wrecked his sound. It went back in no time!

  • Floyd Rose+Tremol-no+Morpheus Droptune1 = No more pain in the ass to tune! Gonna try it out at Guitar Center!

  • the sound of metallica 0:09 - 0:19

  • I heard about this pedal, im thinking of getting it since i have a floyd rose. i heard i sound pretty bad if the amps at low volume but fine if your play loud or are on stage or somethin like that.

  • this pedal is amazing. i must get one of theese so i can play Meshuggah on my 6-string

  • You cant' tune down easly. Especially if your guitar has floyd rose. You need to change strings if you want to keep string tension (doesnt matter if the guitar is hardtail). For example for standart C, you need at least 0.12 gauge set (try tuning down with 0.09 set and see what happens). Also different gauge strings means different intonation even you may need to adjust the neck. So, jumping between different tunings is not that easy.

  • @TheDyNamiteT

what is standard c? I only know, Open C (which is the tuning you just said) and D standard.

  • @Shyuum I think it's just standard tuning down 2 whole steps.

  • i heard this has TONNES of latency on it, my local guitar shop had to send it back because it was terrible :L

  • I like this quite alot

It does not color the ton as much as other pitch shifer pedals

  • The more I hear about this pedal, the more I'd like to check it out. Just the easy of going down a half step, would be nice. No "need" for a second 7 string, just to go half step down for some things. Same for D and C standard tunings. Still leery about it, but I've heard good things from bigger gear snobs than myself. I may just check this puppy out.

  • Can you use batteries for this or does it only use a power supply, anyone? Thanks.

  • @LimblePwns both

  • @kyzrvlhlm1995 that's good news, thanks for the reply.

  • thats one fugly guitar.

  • I'm seriously debating whether or not to steal some of Paul's riffs.

  • lol pat Obrian from cannibal corpse might get this just so he can tune lower then g# haha

  • then you wouldn't have a guitar you would have a fucking bass noobie. metal is not just "tune as low as you fucking can".sure it's a great piece of gear for people who can afford many guitars to have drop tunes. for me, drop c is the shit

  • you missed the point he already tunes his guitar low as fuck i was making a joke and i know metals not about tuning you guitar low but i do have to agree that drop c is the bomb

  • oh sorry joke interpretation fail :D

  • nice metal riff

  • @Slydotcom get thicker strings then... i have had a floyd rose set up with the zakk wylde thick ass strings and was down to drop b so thats no excuse.

  • Pretty cool if you do a lot of tuning changes. Of course just having more guitars would be way cooler.

  • i like the octave down makes it sound like a bass.

  • it would only be good to use to tune down a 1/2 up to maybe 2 steps down from your original tuning. after that (with my experiance from these things) it starts sounds too fake.

  • @lovescarguitar i agree, digitech whammy does this and much more

  • save money and down tune yourself

  • @bob505470 our other guitar player in our band uses one which saves him money spent on other guitars.... he'd snap strings changing tuning the way we need to all the time. We play at least 4 different tunings for our covers and it's really convenient! I'd get one but I personally enjoy having multiple guitars on stage. :)

  • @bob505470 Not that simple, I have a floyd rose and can't just drop tune

  • @bakedbean1232 dont be a fucking bitch.

  • @jesusisonlsd Sorry what?

  • @bakedbean1232 im kiddin. lol. floyd rose set ups are pretty dumb.

  • @jesusisonlsd Amazing to play, but a pain in the ass to set up and maintain.

  • @bakedbean1232

same as that. It's a pain in the arse.

  • @bob505470 cept u have to buy new gauge strings to get real low so in the long run you wouldnt save anything if u wanted to switch all the time right?

  • Now if I could pick and choose which strings I wanted downtuned, then that would be something in which I would be very interested - as it stands I'll think I leave it.

Also was I the only one who noticed a discernible drop in volume as he went further down?

  • I noticed too! it's a really great idea but i dont think it can quite pull it off. i still would like to try it out for myself tho because for me it would be very usefull because i use a floyd rose tremelo system.

  • I have a Floyd as well on my no #1 and no#2 seven stringers, that's why I would like to be able to pick the strings for downtuning. Like for instance Drop D where only the 6th string is downtuned or Drop A for the 7th. Then imagine being able to have alternate tunings like DADGAD without fiddling around with the bridge. Now that would be a pedal I could go for.

  • that is very awesome

  • very usefull!

  • 2:51 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I gotta get one haha

  • Haha thats badass.

  • utile per velocizzare l'accordatura

  • that's a nice gadget for my guitar!

  • Notice he doesn't play any high registers in the altered tunings. from my experience with pedals like this you get a really odd tone when playing leads above the 12th fret. Just something to watch out for it your considering this pedal.

  • i have this pedal, BEST PEDAL EVER! i love how easy it is to use, the only downfall is that at low volumes you can hear your strings, so as long as your amp is louder than your guitar its not a problem

  • Pretty cool, finally I can switch on the fly between playing Satriani to Death and Pantera.

  • It's what we have always wanted!

  • seems kinda cool to mess around with but for practicality it just seems kinda stupid IMO

  • its not for messing around... that would get boring fast.... its VERY practical because you don't have to A) constantly tune your guitar up/down steps, AND you don't have to sacrifice string tension and clarity when playing in super-low tunings like drop c and b...... very practical in my opinion. im gonna go try and get myself one.

  • you fail Pooxer

  • fail pooxer. epic epic fail.

  • this is pretty cool, sounds fun to fuck around with

  • rh it would sound not as real

  • Geez Paul did you keep the Carvin after you reviewed it? lol

  • he used it in a video before he reviewed it, then he reviewed it, and now it's his favorite lol.

  • Original guitar sound was bad enough that you can't hear how much the pedal sucks tone. Useful tool for the odd song live, but very "digital" sounding, no substitute for retuning and certainly not good enough for recording.

  • very good for floydrose guitars.

  • @ViLLZzZz yeah but still if you want drop D you tune manually

  • yes but it`s very boring to tune every time you wanna play some Children of bodom,And then go back to normal pitch for Metallica.

  • @ViLLZzZz yeah tell me about it.... I've written song in both standard and Drop D tunings and this affects the live setlist when we play with the band...

  • Wow!!! Best sounding pitchshifter pedal I ever heard. Whammy pedal or other pitchshifters distort strumming chords. This one sound very clearly!
