Al Green, can bring the house down. As I look at more and more old school videos, I see black people sweating their azz's off. Could it be there were no fans or cooling sources? Maybe that's how they kept the weight down or worst, was force to. He looked like he could not see, so he kept his eye's close most of the performance. Is it just me?
My friend and I were one of the first in line to go to this taping of The Midnight Special! By the time they opened the doors to go inside, we were stampeded by all the love sick black girls! Needless to say this white boy from Colorado got out of their way! We ended up about 4 rows back! It was one of the most memorable times in my life! It is still my favorite song ever! Al green is the best!
I am too jealous that you were there and I wasn't! Are you sure all those girls were black? I've seen some white girls doing some serious screaming at more than a few of his shows! LOL
i remember only havin just regular tv stationz and waiting for Midnight Special to come on with the "howlin" wolfman jack to c who would be performing.. this is great! thanx for it..
Rev. Green is sweating profusely because the intensity of the colored lights and halo lights is unbearably HOT...as a stage performer you can trust me on this . I used to have to find a reference point toward the back and center of the stage to keep from passing out when I performed at a hall or center. Those lights can actually make you physically SICK until you adjust to them.
A lot of those musicians were arrogant! Al Green was a legend but he had an attitude under all of that holy phasoid! He was losing his voice because he probably sung about 15 songs that night at The Midnight Special! But he had a preacher voice just like Donny Hathaway!
I think he got the bad COKE!!! the kind that makes your palms sweet...bad stuff...and we do blacks change the song when its live, too much added crap...
I saw Al Green in Concert a few months ago. Front row seats. He handed the women long stem roses. I got one from him too. This man is amazing. I have been sharing this music with my son and grandson. I Took my son who is 30 and his Girlfriend with me. My son turned to me and said Mom I have been to ALOT of concerts but this is the best concert I've ever been to. No Lie. He has so much energy and doesn't miss a note. Music that touches you. Don't get much of that these days.
Finally the legendary Rev. Al Green toured Australia and I saw him perform last night in Brisbane. Totally awesome ... I loved the show. Rev. Al Green Al... you continue to definately share the LOVE - the ladies went totally WILD!!
I went to see King Al in concert during this time period. The girls in the audience went insane when he came off the stage and went through the audience. I felt bad for the guys who brought their women there that night. From the women's standpoint, Al was the only male there that night.

This is exactly what has gone missing these days.
REAL talent & performance.
Nobody can beat Al Green, in terms of overall live performance throughout a whole career. Not even Michael Jackson. And certainly not Whitney Houston.
Al is pushing 65 years, and still hitting the high notes.
