You will see that the version bill the House was forced to vote on was snuck in by the White House at 3:45 in the morning. It did not get to that point the proper way. Reason? they are right their were the fight usually starts. 3 of 4 deaths are from stabbings. Most deaths are not intended but originate from the abuser wanting control/fear of the situation hence a knife is used. You are right though that bullets do more damage in a single action but knives are usually used in more then one action. Imfo from the CDC.
