hi,

the fact that we're shooting outdoors with a lot of ambient light, allowed sufficient fill to properly expose the shadow side. the shutter speed controls this. indoors, in a dark room, the shadow side would be completely underexposed.

The lens hood is from Lee Filters, part of their system that allows you to use filters as needed and fits on any size lens by means of adapter rings. They also have a wide angle lens hood that just slides on when needed. The softbox is from Lastolite, their ezybox.
