i synched up the Japanese and the english to a fraction of a second off. and they sound similar. but japanese sounds better arounf the 2minutes mark they come unsynched cuz the japanese version has a 20 second guitar solo, and its 2 minutes longer :/

Haha, I was suprised when they showed this part. Dubbing an anime is one thing, but hearing a translated version of a song is another. Haha, idc what Dub Haters think, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya's Eng. Dub is just outstanding. I mean a lot of popular VA's in it :p. Especially having 4 Popular VA's as the main characters. Whoever chose the cast did a great job ^^!

The only other dub I know of that successfully did something like this was in Zatch Bell, Megumi's Hikari no Prism in English (Of course we all know how the OTHER singer in that show got his songs dubbed) I did like the lyrics, except it was awkward during "I am standing here/ and you can disappear" I feel like it's missing a syllable. It's like a good fandub, still flawed, but really fun to listen to despite.

I prefer the subbed. Not because there's something wrong with English or because the dubbers are doing something wrong, it's cuz the subbed version is the original, so it's very rare that the dubbed version is better. It's like how it's rare that a fan-cover, even if it has a good mic and tech equipment, is usually nowhere near as good as the original. No offense, I have no prob w/ ppl liking the dub more. ^^

I don't know about others but I prefer subs because a. you get to learn a new language XD and b. because the voices of Japanese guys are hotter :p and I haven't really seen many dubs but I think that sometimes, the dubbers don't really express as much emotion as the Japanese.... but that's just my opinion...

I just want to put this out there: Dubbing movies/series is really hard because you need not just to be synced with the characters mouth movement but should also mean the same thing.

Translating songs is even harder because now it also has to rime and follow the beat of the music.

Doing both of these things are, as you probably could have guessed, even harder.

I need to give the dubbers some plaudit for this. It's amazing.

They've done a much better job then say the Swedish song: "Boten Anna" or in English: "Now You're Gone"

Both have the exact same music but the lyrics are completely diffrent. Not even the same subject.
