great people, I say great-great people to respect this guy's privacy, thank you, thank you, my life has gotten better just by knowing that you guys exist and out in the open.
I think the kid who's grown up now should claim owner rights of every copy made of the video and get all the money he deserves for it and then he's set for life
I think the kid who's grown up know should claim owner rights of every copy made of the video and get all the money he deserves for it and then he's set for life
Oh shut the fuck up star wars kid was the funnist thing iv seen in ten years. So what if that vid ruined his life how's that are problem it's is funny so what do u exspect were human will like other peoples pain it's funny
@matthew92202 oh well fuck you! do want to know that other people's pain isn't a funny thing? wait till other people laugh about your suffering. it will come soon.
i mean imagine the spectrum of issues that fall under the umbrella he's talking about...
it's not just about one kid getting embarrassed, or "the right thing to do" it's about giving up complete freedom of expression to some company claiming to represent the moral majority, and we still haven't recovered from the last time that happened in the media.
Someguy, what "company" are you talking about? There's no mention, in this clip, of any one central "company" to control Internet privacy.
Zittrain mentions a technical mechanism that people could freely choose to follow. The "robots.txt" example illustrates it. Nobody enforces that standard. No company manages it. No government punishes those who fail to follow it. It works because people follow it voluntarily.
A similar freely chosen measure might offer one possible way to respect privacy.
George Lucas should hire Star Wars Kid as a consultant on future movies...just saying :P
Jonathan raises a number of great points, and seems to be highly aware that although technology now allows for unguarded passage of information, human nature's development of morality and ethics have been the sliver of hope necessary to keep some semblance of privacy alive. The internet is still very new and people are still trying to find balance with this new-found freedom.
Well when you completely ignore reality, sure it's easy to see any harm done. Just do some googling, the dude has basically been harassed in every school he's been at.
Little did the abused nerd realize he would soon become a hero to everyone on the internet.

The problem with to much legal restrictions is that it leads to a very suppressed and controlled media.
Compromises have to haven on many layers. And but limiting the internet, we're just gauging out our own eyes.
One would think courtesy and common sense was better. :)

What about wikileaks? if this was truly implamented the likely hood for the gray area would grow and soon become a engin for cenceorship.

The kid was "hurt" by the video going viral? He turned into an international icon almost overnight! I really fail to see the harm.
