This is a much more better option, as people (Earthbenders) could have never figured out how to bend anything higher than their usual standards. Toph showed that metal could be bended, like the Chakra Man said it could be. Also, I never noticed that Toph never had pupils. I always assumed they were there, hidden by something whitish.
