At first I was a bit sceptical because this piece of music is so incredibly hard. But the second half was played so beautifully that I could forget about all my concerns ;-)
I wouldn't say it is the hardest- the first movement is rather rough...the third is not bad. However, I digress. As a student, playing with your school orchestra..you did a marvelous job!! Brava!
I hate to argue, but it is regarded in the professional world as the most difficult cello concerto... the only concerto that is occasionally considered more difficult is the Barber. Schumann is up there, too, but Dvorak and Rococo are not as hard as they sound. I don't want to sound like I am bragging about being able to play the Haydn... I am still an incredibly long way off from being able to play it at a truly professional level!
i am studying this concerto now and i would most definitely agree with you. i am also studying the Rococco Variations and i feel like i am rehearsing the Haydn much more! music from Haydn's period is takes the most nimblest of playing. you can slop around on the Dvorak and Tchaikovsky but NOT this! by the way you played very well! you will be fine!
What about the Prokofiev Sinfonia Concerto? Is that more difficult? I don't play cello myself but it certainly sounds tough...(last thirty seconds the cello goes higher than the piano...O_o
Yeah, the Dvorak and other romantic period pieces have a lot of room for imperfections. The Haydn is completely transparent, and everything has to be perfect for it to sound good.
the mainstream most difficult cello concertos (no specific order):
Barber
Haydn D
Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante

@15cellist Yeah that Haydn is transformed to a sad fight between soloist and orchestra for owning a candy:(

Great performance! I really enjoyed listening to and watching you play. I must ask however, why a piano bench?

Lol this isn't the most diffcult concerto. There is still Schumann, Dvorak, Rococco variation, etc. Unless I misunderstood something.
