@joshdavidian: In the Raiders-Chargers game, the receiver did not secure possession throughout the entire process of the catch. The ball moved when it hit the ground. Therefore, the pass is imcomplete.

I'm not complaining. I am quoting the rule. Read the actual rule. Again, he had control all the way to the ground. The intent of the "control after it touches the ground" rule is clearly to see who has control IF two people might have controlled it. Read the actual rule. You can keep trying to say that it has something to do with him not having control after he hits the ground but the rule clearly states what is considered a touchdown. read the actual rule. You're wrong.
Actually, search the immaculate reception on youtube then click the video that is 4:05 and has the picture of Art Shell on it. This video will clear any doubts that you had about the immaculate reception. It cleared my doubts.
When a knee and elbow hit the ground while a reciever is going to the ground, the catch process is not complete. That is for a running play. It doesn't matter what body part hits the ground, the process starts after he hits the ground. I guess the coaches don't know the rules and they don't challenge these plays because all of those passes should have been called incomplete.
Watch from 0:46 and 0:48. Louis Murphy clearly loses control of the ball, and since the process of the catch was not completed, the pass in incomplete. The ball ended up beteween his legs. It is terrible akra when the league follows the rules and because of it, the Raiders lose games. Exhibit A: The Tuck Rule. It is the proper interpretaion of the tuck rule, which made that pass incomplete.
The rule says "Note 1: A player who goes to the ground in the process of attempting to secure possession of a loose ball (with or without contact by an opponent) must maintain control of theball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, there is no possession. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, it is a catch, interception, or recovery.
@keyguy13 The thing all you people that think this was an incomplete pass are leaving out is that he wasn't in the PROCESS of attempting to secure possession. He had possession and control of the ball. Read the last sentence. This call was wrong.
The process of the catch was not finished. I don't know why you thought it was completed. The process of the catch starts when he hits the ground, and it ends either when he makes a second act or stops moving. The process of the catch does not end when his butt hits the ground, that's when it begins. Louis Murphy is still moving and at 0:46 to 0:48, you see the ball clearly on the ground, meaning that the catch process was not completed, making the pass incomplete.
@keyguy13 it wasn't a catch and fumble. it's the process of the catch. just like week one with calvin johnson's touchdown. whenever they catch the ball they have to finish the process of going to the ground with full possession. louis murphy didn't have complete possession, the ball moved when he hit the ground.
@td31g He had possesion all the way untill he tried to get up! Just like Johnson's TD. Watch the video again at :46. Thats the way I see it. Its ok if the ball shifs around (or touches to ground) as long as he maintains possesion. I think they were both tds. If Murphy would have laid there for a few more secs then tried to get up, it would have been a TD.
@joshdavidian when he hits the ground, his thumb went from on the ball, to off of it. from that point on he doesn't have control..which is also the reason the ball hit the ground completely, cause of his thumb.
Key can complain all he wants, it's not going to change the outcome of the play. The call on the field was an incomplete pass, and they can't go back and reverse the call.
yeah, this looks like a good call in my personal opinion. he lost possession and dropped it while he was on the ground. Look how the ball moves that the very end. This is not like the Megatron play because Calvin Johnson had the ball in his hand, it didn't move and when he got up he made a second action and placed it down. But yeah, they should at least make a call consistent and that Patriots TD was not a TD, it should have been called incomplete. Funny these two games happened on the same day.
@keyguy13 yes, but isn't there a rule that says that if you make a catch you need to finish the play with the ball in your possession when you touch the ground? and clearly murphy lost the ball. same thing happened to desean jackson versus the lions.
lol, that play gts called all the time, u must maintain posesion all the way to the ground, anyone can see the ball touches the ground, by rule it IS incomplete. Every team has been burned by this call. How about Rivers hand moving forward 18" and the ball having forward momentum, yet calling it a "Fumble". Simple laws of physics, if his hand wasn't moving forward, then the ball would have to drop down or backwards, yet it went forwards, physicaly impossible, yet Raiders get call adn a win
If this rule favored the Raiders, would their fans be complaining? Of course not. If the Raiders were playing any other team and the same play happened to the other team, and that person who was a fan of the other team made a video saying that the reciever had a butt down , 2 feet and control of the ball, the Raider fans would obviously take the side of the referees. .
@td31g Are you kidding me? Where did he lose control before the ball hit the ground? Show me that and my mind will be changed. Since you can't, and he didn't, you're wrong.
But Calvins was way worse. This guy actually lost possession immediately on hitting the ground. And he didn't purposely put the ball down like Calvin did. And he didn't make any acts or possess it nearly as long. Calvin made like 4 acts showing control.
Not to mention it was essentially the last play of the game overturned to change a win to a loss.
It's these kinds of plays that justify the question: "Are you blind?" I wonder who paid off that dumb ass ref. He should be fired and kicked in the nuts for good measure. This kind of shit causes riots.
This was a good call, along with the Calvin Johnson call week 1 2010. its a clear rule, you have to maintain possession throughout the catch, the ball hits the ground and shifts. if this would have happened on the 50 yard line it would have still been an incomplete catch.
know the rules before you complain about the refs, they got this one right
@godhammel Stop trolling. This was a complete pass and everyone knew it. He had it under control and in his possesion from the start of the catch to the finish. Finish being when his two feet and ass were on the ground.
With the Ben Watson catch, notice that he puts his arm under the ball to prevent the ball from hitting the ground, so that he doesn't lose possession of the ball, and he clearly maintains control of the ball so that it is a completed catch. He puts his hand in a good position so that the ball does not bounce out of his hands, this was a completed pass, a TD and a victory for the Patriots.
This play was very similar to one with the Tampa Bay Bucs vs. the Washington Redskins during the time Jon Gruden coached the Bucs (I forget which season, exactly), except with the Bucs, it was ruled incomplete. The ref for that game gave a similar explaination. Even after the Bucs challenged, the ruling on the field still stood.
If he is going to the ground he has to maintain possesion all the way through. He clearly loses control of the ball as he falls to the ground We aren't talking about boundries here so the two feet/ knees/butt thing is irrelevant. The call was correct. I don't really see the argument here. The real problem with the raiders is not their luck or some stupid conspiracy it's that they draft horribly.
@pgh5002 No, you're wrong. The call may have been correct, but it's a touchdown for any other team in any other situation. Remember the tuck rule? That would never be called in a critical playoff situation against another team. Also look at the pick six by Routt last year against the eagles, they called it back because of PI. That would never ever be made against say, the Pats or Colts or Cowboys.
@asmulaabas You're blined by your bias. The tuck has been called multiple times. Try watching football. Try watching Official review durring the season. They talk about it nearly every week. I've seen teams called for much worse. Rules like "non football like move pointing at the quarterback", "illegal fair catch signal", and "leaping". Get over it your team can't draft. Not to mention the Cowboys are one of the most penalized teams every year. Try watching the other games.
@pgh5002 He did NOT lose control of the ball as he was going to the ground. He lost control AFTER he rolled over and was already down. The call was NOT correct and any idiot that thinks otherwise is wrong. end of discussion.
@michaelrp95 He did have control of the ball all the way down to the ground, he only lost it when he pushed up off the ground with his other hand trying to get up
But forget all that as soon as his ass hit the ground the play should have been over. Just because his momentum makes him turn over shouldn't have no baring on when the play is over, just like in the field of play he would have been ruled down by contact.
ALSO remember he was not going to the ground until after he already had possession, two feet down, Then the push came from the defender that took them to the ground.
@BigPrimo33 Agreed. This is stupid to even argue about. The touchdown should have counted. the ref was bought and paid for. The ground doesn't cause loss of possession. You can see he has the ball tucked in and completely under his control. This call was retarded.
@michaelrp95 He did NOT lose control of the ball going down. How fucking blind do you have to be? His ass was on the ground with the ball completely in his grip. It hadn't moved and didn't move until he rolled over, already ON the ground! That any of you morons can defend this call just AMAZES me! You are some of the dumbest people I have ever seen.
"It hadn't moved and didn't move until he rolled over"
That's what the rule states, if a player is still rolling over and the player loses possesion of the ball, the pass is incomplete. Now you are finally under way to understanding this rule. The catch rule may change next year, so that what you define as a catch might become a catch. But since it isn't, this pass was incomplete.
@patsrule213 No. He rolled over to get up. Just like thousands of other touchdowns have happened the exact same way. He had possession of the ball. Not arguing this any more. Nothing any of you people say is ever going to convince me that this wasn't a touchdown.
@keyguy13 At 0:38 you can see the ball move when it hits the ground. And at 0:47 you see it completely on the ground without possession. He must have control of the ball completely going to the ground. Case in point: the Calvin Johnson touchdown in week 1.
If a runner reaches with the footbal to cross the goaline and looses the football, its a touchdown. Whats the difference if murphy caught the ball in the endzone, had both feet down wit full possesion until he hit the floor, Dumb cal, shulda been a TD. Go raiders
one of the worst calls ive seen in the last 10 years of any football game ive watched from high school college or pro it blew. and a week later the cornhuskers were screwed with the same catch and call it just freeken sucked
haha, omg. this is NOT a catch. if he had control of the ball he wouldn't have fumbled it upon hitting the ground. as for people trying to say "WELL, if this OTHER catch was ruled a catch...then THIS one should be TOO". you're retarded. that's not how rules work. if one catch that shouldn't be called as a complete pass does it has NO bearing on other calls.
@EgoManiak Bullshit, idiot. That's why they always say the ground can't cause a fumble. It doesn't matter if the rule only applies to a running play, the basis for the rule is sound. He was down, the play was over. It was a touchdown. The call was wrong, the ref stupid, and you're a moron for agreeing with him.
You have to maintain possesion of the ball after you hit the ground. That's what the rule states. If you just hit the ground, the process of the catch is not over. And remember, the ground can cause an incompletion, and that's what happened. Remember, you have to maintain possesion of the ball after you hit the ground and after Louis Murphy hits the ground, the ball ends up between his legs, making this an incomplete pass.
@patsrule213 If that were true, all the other plays exactly like this that were called touchdowns would no longer stand. The rules are constantly tested and interpreted and re-interpreted. The refs call the plays based on general consensus. And that consensus is completely contrary to what this ref called. They are not always called by the exact letter of the rule. In fact, they mostly aren't. Common sense is supposed to prevail. If you watch this, he had complete control of the ball.
Wouldnt ya know it .. A poor little Raider fan crying over a TD because they rarely get to experience them. Even if this was called a TD the raiders would still suck.
@marion24barberownz We would've beaten the Chargers and lost less than 11 games for the frst time since making the Superbowl in 2002. That heap of shit call meant alot. Not to mention the confidence that would've come with beating the big-dog in the division.
ok so let me get this sraight after you make your first touchdown in the nfl your supposed to stay laying down with the ball in your hands so the retarded refs can make sure you have possesion to have a touchdown?THATS BULLCRAP!!!if that was reggie wayne or andre johnson they wouldve called a touchdown no problem
One thing that gets me about this rule. When a player is running towards the pilon, the ball crosses the goal line and it's immediately called a TD no matter if he loses possession out of bounds. They don't say "No TD" cause he lost possession out of bounds. Why is this any different? He possessed the ball, 2 feet and hip hit the ground. It should be a TD at that moment. It should be changed.
They should have given us the touchdown! If we had been given the touchdown, we would have won the game. If we'd have won this game, it would have provided the Raiders with so much momentum that who knows, we could have actually been a good team. this was our season right here
what the fuck! i saw this 5 months ago and it pissed me off and it still pisses me off! THE RAIDERS WOULD HAVE WON THIS FUCKING GAME IF THE RETARDED REF WOULD HAVE JUST CALLED THIS A TOUCHDOWN!!
You mean like how the Refs screwed the Pats in their playoff loss to the Raiders when the Raiders won their first super bowl? Oh yeah, dont mention that one.
The difference was Murphy was contacted by the defensive player then went to the ground and therefore had to maintain possession all the way. While yesterday Moore went to the ground on his own, then made a move to get the ball over the GL, which he did before the defensive player kicked it out of his hands.
The difference between this and the 2 point conversion in the Super Bowl is that in the Super Bowl, the New Orleans reciever made a football move and the ball crossed the plain during that football move meaning that it is a successful conversion. Here Louis Murphy loses possesion of the ball and it ends up betrween his legs with no football move at all.
@patsrule213 he never lost possession of the ball. He was down before the ball hit the ground and shifted. It never moved an inch while in his hand going down. He had possession of it. Look with your eyes and watch the footage. The ball shifted after IT hit the ground. The ground has never been able to cause a fumble or loss of possession. This was a wrong call.
The ground cannot cause a fumble, but it can cause an incompletion. And you say that the end of the play was when his butt touched the ground. That is for a running play, not a passing play. And if he knew he caught the ball, why did he scoop it up under his legs. The process of the catch is from 0:12 to 0:15. If the ball touches the ground without having possesion, the pass is incomplete, and the ball went through his legs, this was an incomplete pass.
@keyguy13 You said : "he scooped it up because he has been trained over and over to recover the ball if it gets loose" and "he never lost control of the ball" Didn't you say he never lost control of the ball? Doesn't the ball have to touch the ground for a player to scoop the ball of the ground? It looks like you just admitted that he lost possesion of the ball, and since the process of the catch was not completed, the pass is incomplete. You can complain all you want, it wont change a thing
@patsrule213 Ok, look. Re-read the rule. It clearly states that if the player didn't lose control of the ball BEFORE it hits the ground, the pass is complete. he had control of the ball before IT hit the ground. There is no doubt. He had it tucked in and it never moved. Why can't you just admit you're wrong?
That's true, but the rule states that you have to maintain possession of the ball after you hit the ground. What you have described is for a running play, not a passing play. You have to understand that the rules are different for a running play than a passing play. And watch from 0:46 to 0:48 and watch the ball touch the ground before the process of the catch is completed, making this an incomplete pass.
@patsrule213 wrong. the rule does not state that. the rule states that if the player loses control of the ball BEFORE it hits the ground, the pass is incomplete. If the player maintains control of the ball before it hits the ground, the pass is complete. Look at the rule. You're just plain wrong.
As a 49ers fan who hates the Raiders....I still say they get screwed a lot. I know people hate conspiracy theorists but the Raiders have got a beef. Just think if the "Tuck Game" or this happened against YOUR team.
I do believe in part that Al Davis's somewhat former feud with the NFL has made the Raiders a bit of a target.
Not former feud, agree with your comment 100% though. Suprised this comes from a 9er fan. At least your vision is not obstructed by the dramtic bullshit of the National Fraud League. ,,!/.
this call was stupid his feet and but touched the floor he had control of the ball and was in the endzone it was a freaken touchdown he lost control once his BUT AND FEET AND ELBOW!! hit the ground and sure patriots so its a touchdown its a big game rivalry monday night on ESPN who are lil bitches when it comes down to announcing or saying things about the raiders 'cough' jim rome, and they could afford to see the raiders get that tD even the ref knows its dum listen to how he says the call
Actually that was the right call... You have to take the ball to the ground. The same thing happened in last years super bowl, although it was ruled a catch. Larry Fitz caught that fade route, and it bounced off the ground, but nobody ever noticed it...
The team sucks. Just like the city. Sorry <=( Watched a special about Oakland on MSNBC and honestly it looked like the Al Anbar province during Operation Phantom Fury
cause the show let me guess was about gangs or povery or some shit like that, every city or town has its crappy part but oakland has its nice and pretty parts as well if you didnt know
"if a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact with an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or in the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.
@RaiderNationPodcast Thank you for this RaiderNationPodcast. "...If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete."
So there you go, he never lost control of the ball before it touched the ground. He had it tucked in and controlled until the ball hit the ground. The pass was complete. End of story.
It was a terrible call, just to add to all of the worst calls in the history of football against the Raiders-the play was over, when Murphy lost control of the ball while getting off the ground, and up to his feet. In my estimation it was the wrong interpretation, by the official, of the rule. Just like the tuck rule was incorectly interpreted (the tuck was also ordered by the NFL to be called against the Raiders while the official was looking thru the replay and on phone to league official)
im so suprised they didnt take back his td against the bengals the raiders get screwed every way they can because al davis sewed the nfl look at this call. look when vincent jackson spiked the ball without ever being touched down he spiked it and they said it was a forward pass the tuck rule and many more
dont worry when davis gets his line cut raiders will come back. do you not understands Al davis philosophy of football? " strong arm ( J Russel) and speed Receivers ( Darius ) which russel cant even complete a 10 yard accurate pass
I'll admit i don't understand Al Davis' philosophy of football. In addition, its nice to see an educated NFL fan such as yourself on youtube. As much as i dislike the Raiders, their fans are one of the best in the league. I absolutely praise fans like you because its scarce to find educated NFL fans; most fans don't have any sense of history. have a nice day!
Also notice that since Emanuel was diving for the ball, there was no way to establish two feet the way Murphy did, which is why that ruling didn't make sense.
Who ever put this up good lookin out bc that was bullshit! Lj is nice and that was clearly a TD. But its all good bc he still got his first TD that nite. Good shit my g!
this dude was on the ground already got touched tackled . ball is down everything is perfected for a touchdown in about 5 seconds. alot of players let go of the ball under 1 sec on the ground in redzone.. i laugh how the NFL hates the raiders. i recall seeing a game when raiders got a INT TD against the Texans. One raider player celebrated with just by going on knees and putting hands in air and ref ruled inappropriate. i just laugh how much NFL hates
pussy shut the fuck up nigga, come to me and say it to my face pussy.the charger kicked his leg up and tryed to trip murphy.that was illegal as hell right nigga.FUCK YOU AND THE BOLTS BITCH with they non skilled ass gotta try to kick people to stop them.
I don't like the Raiders, never have, though they got Greg Ellis, that guy is good. I'm actually a Cowboys fan who will enjoy the game thanksgiving day [I believe we play Raiders on thanksgiving] but! I do think this is bullshit. That was a catch. That was horrible call. Some refs are just so stupid
this is fucking stupid. The patriot receiver had complete possession of the ball, even the part of it hit the ground. Big difference.

Under the same rule: Note 2: In the field of play, if a catch of a forward pass has been completed, and there is
contact by a defender causing the ball to come loose before the runner is down by
contact, it is a fumble, and the ball remains alive. In the end zone, the same action is a
touchdown, since the receiver completed the catch beyond the goal line prior to the loss
of possession, and the ball is dead when the catch is completed.

If the Raiders were playing any other team and the same play happened to the other team, and that person who was a fan of the other team made a video saying that the reciever had a butt down , 2 feet and control of the ball, the Raider fans would obviously take the side of the referees. .

See, this is total BS. Dont get me wrong.

This kind of shit causes riots.
keyguy13 1 year ago
This was a good call, along with the Calvin Johnson call week 1 2010. its a clear rule, you have to maintain possession throughout the catch, the ball hits the ground and shifts. if this would have happened on the 50 yard line it would have still been an incomplete catch.
know the rules before you complain about the refs, they got this one right
godhammel 1 year ago
@godhammel Stop trolling. This was a complete pass and everyone knew it. He had it under control and in his possesion from the start of the catch to the finish. Finish being when his two feet and ass were on the ground.

@godhammel and if the ground can't cause a fumble how do they justify it causing loss of possession? isn't that the same damn thing?

RAID3R63 1 year ago
@Learn4rmLifesLessons Sure was! Outside the rules and regulations set by the nfl. Other than that though...totally a catch...
pgh5002 1 year ago
With the Ben Watson catch, notice that he puts his arm under the ball to prevent the ball from hitting the ground, so that he doesn't lose possession of the ball, and he clearly maintains control of the ball so that it is a completed catch. He puts his hand in a good position so that the ball does not bounce out of his hands, this was a completed pass, a TD and a victory for the Patriots.
patsrule213 1 year ago
This play was very similar to one with the Tampa Bay Bucs vs. the Washington Redskins during the time Jon Gruden coached the Bucs (I forget which season, exactly), except with the Bucs, it was ruled incomplete. The ref for that game gave a similar explaination. Even after the Bucs challenged, the ruling on the field still stood.

I like how this same thing happened to minnesota. But no they give them the touchdown.
acecog 1 year ago
If he is going to the ground he has to maintain possesion all the way through. He clearly loses control of the ball as he falls to the ground We aren't talking about boundries here so the two feet/ knees/butt thing is irrelevant. The call was correct. I don't really see the argument here. The real problem with the raiders is not their luck or some stupid conspiracy it's that they draft horribly.
pgh5002 1 year ago
@pgh5002 No, you're wrong. The call may have been correct, but it's a touchdown for any other team in any other situation. Remember the tuck rule? That would never be called in a critical playoff situation against another team. Also look at the pick six by Routt last year against the eagles, they called it back because of PI. That would never ever be made against say, the Pats or Colts or Cowboys.
asmulaabas 1 year ago
@asmulaabas You're blined by your bias. The tuck has been called multiple times. Try watching football. Try watching Official review durring the season. They talk about it nearly every week. I've seen teams called for much worse. Rules like "non football like move pointing at the quarterback", "illegal fair catch signal", and "leaping". Get over it your team can't draft. Not to mention the Cowboys are one of the most penalized teams every year. Try watching the other games.
pgh5002 1 year ago
@pgh5002 He did NOT lose control of the ball as he was going to the ground. He lost control AFTER he rolled over and was already down. The call was NOT correct and any idiot that thinks otherwise is wrong. end of discussion.

@keyguy13 Yes it was see Lions vs Bears 2010 week one for the exact same call...
pgh5002 1 year ago
@pgh5002 nope.
keyguy13 1 year ago
that was not a td. he caught the ball and lost control of it going down, incomplete! what dont you guys get about it?
michaelrp95 1 year ago
@michaelrp95 He did have control of the ball all the way down to the ground, he only lost it when he pushed up off the ground with his other hand trying to get up
0:47.
By the definition of the rule then, the play is not over in the end zone until he gets up off the ground. That doesn't make any sense.
BigPrimo33 1 year ago
also,
But forget all that as soon as his ass hit the ground the play should have been over. Just because his momentum makes him turn over shouldn't have no baring on when the play is over, just like in the field of play he would have been ruled down by contact.
BigPrimo33 1 year ago
ALSO remember he was not going to the ground until after he already had possession, two feet down, Then the push came from the defender that took them to the ground.
BigPrimo33 1 year ago
@BigPrimo33 Agreed. This is stupid to even argue about. The touchdown should have counted. the ref was bought and paid for. The ground doesn't cause loss of possession. You can see he has the ball tucked in and completely under his control. This call was retarded.
keyguy13 1 year ago
@michaelrp95 He did NOT lose control of the ball going down. How fucking blind do you have to be? His ass was on the ground with the ball completely in his grip. It hadn't moved and didn't move until he rolled over, already ON the ground! That any of you morons can defend this call just AMAZES me! You are some of the dumbest people I have ever seen.
keyguy13 1 year ago
@keyguy13
But since it isn't, this pass was incomplete.
patsrule213 1 year ago
@patsrule213 No. He rolled over to get up. Just like thousands of other touchdowns have happened the exact same way. He had possession of the ball. Not arguing this any more. Nothing any of you people say is ever going to convince me that this wasn't a touchdown.
keyguy13 1 year ago
@patsrule213 and the rule doesn't state that. nice bluff. there is nothing in the rule about "rolling over" lol. Your argument is void.
keyguy13 1 year ago
@keyguy13 At 0:38 you can see the ball move when it hits the ground. And at 0:47 you see it completely on the ground without possession. He must have control of the ball completely going to the ground. Case in point: the Calvin Johnson touchdown in week 1.
michaelrp95 1 year ago
If a runner reaches with the footbal to cross the goaline and looses the football, its a touchdown. Whats the difference if murphy caught the ball in the endzone, had both feet down wit full possesion until he hit the floor, Dumb cal, shulda been a TD. Go raiders
raidersoak 1 year ago
one of the worst calls ive seen in the last 10 years of any football game ive watched from high school college or pro it blew. and a week later the cornhuskers were screwed with the same catch and call it just freeken sucked
sixteenblackroses 1 year ago
haha, omg. this is NOT a catch. if he had control of the ball he wouldn't have fumbled it upon hitting the ground. as for people trying to say "WELL, if this OTHER catch was ruled a catch...then THIS one should be TOO". you're retarded. that's not how rules work. if one catch that shouldn't be called as a complete pass does it has NO bearing on other calls.
EgoManiak 1 year ago
@EgoManiak Bullshit, idiot. That's why they always say the ground can't cause a fumble. It doesn't matter if the rule only applies to a running play, the basis for the rule is sound. He was down, the play was over. It was a touchdown. The call was wrong, the ref stupid, and you're a moron for agreeing with him.
keyguy13 1 year ago
@keyguy13
You have to maintain possesion of the ball after you hit the ground. That's what the rule states. If you just hit the ground, the process of the catch is not over. And remember, the ground can cause an incompletion, and that's what happened. Remember, you have to maintain possesion of the ball after you hit the ground and after Louis Murphy hits the ground, the ball ends up between his legs, making this an incomplete pass.
patsrule213 1 year ago
@patsrule213 If that were true, all the other plays exactly like this that were called touchdowns would no longer stand. The rules are constantly tested and interpreted and re-interpreted. The refs call the plays based on general consensus. And that consensus is completely contrary to what this ref called. They are not always called by the exact letter of the rule. In fact, they mostly aren't. Common sense is supposed to prevail. If you watch this, he had complete control of the ball.

JMMEZ3 1 year ago
One thing that gets me about this rule. When a player is running towards the pilon, the ball crosses the goal line and it's immediately called a TD no matter if he loses possession out of bounds. They don't say "No TD" cause he lost possession out of bounds. Why is this any different? He possessed the ball, 2 feet and hip hit the ground. It should be a TD at that moment. It should be changed.
DJSANTA5 1 year ago
They should have given us the touchdown! If we had been given the touchdown, we would have won the game. If we'd have won this game, it would have provided the Raiders with so much momentum that who knows, we could have actually been a good team. this was our season right here

hmmm so what is the difference between Murphy's catch and the 2 point conversion catch in the superbowl ????? Explain that to me NFL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
solidyahoo 2 years ago 8
The difference was Murphy was contacted by the defensive player then went to the ground and therefore had to maintain possession all the way. While yesterday Moore went to the ground on his own, then made a move to get the ball over the GL, which he did before the defensive player kicked it out of his hands.
strivan21 2 years ago
@solidyahoo
The difference between this and the 2 point conversion in the Super Bowl is that in the Super Bowl, the New Orleans reciever made a football move and the ball crossed the plain during that football move meaning that it is a successful conversion. Here Louis Murphy loses possesion of the ball and it ends up betrween his legs with no football move at all.
patsrule213 1 year ago
@patsrule213 "football move" is no longer used as a ruling in the NFL homie.
omgwtfcuk 1 year ago
@patsrule213 he never lost possession of the ball. He was down before the ball hit the ground and shifted. It never moved an inch while in his hand going down. He had possession of it. Look with your eyes and watch the footage. The ball shifted after IT hit the ground. The ground has never been able to cause a fumble or loss of possession. This was a wrong call.
keyguy13 1 year ago
@keyguy13
If the ball touches the ground without having possesion, the pass is incomplete, and the ball went through his legs, this was an incomplete pass.
patsrule213 1 year ago
@patsrule213 he scooped it up because he has been trained over and over to recover the ball if it gets loose. That's a poor argument.
keyguy13 1 year ago
@keyguy13 You said : "he scooped it up because he has been trained over and over to recover the ball if it gets loose" and "he never lost control of the ball" Didn't you say he never lost control of the ball? Doesn't the ball have to touch the ground for a player to scoop the ball of the ground? It looks like you just admitted that he lost possesion of the ball, and since the process of the catch was not completed, the pass is incomplete. You can complain all you want, it wont change a thing
patsrule213 1 year ago
@patsrule213 Ok, look. Re-read the rule. It clearly states that if the player didn't lose control of the ball BEFORE it hits the ground, the pass is complete. he had control of the ball before IT hit the ground. There is no doubt. He had it tucked in and it never moved. Why can't you just admit you're wrong?
keyguy13 1 year ago
@patsrule213 he never lost control of the ball.
keyguy13 1 year ago
@solidyahoo superbowl he had control when he hit the ground...are you really that fucking blind?
thehotoneisin 1 year ago
@thehotoneisin
That's true, but the rule states that you have to maintain possession of the ball after you hit the ground. What you have described is for a running play, not a passing play. You have to understand that the rules are different for a running play than a passing play. And watch from 0:46 to 0:48 and watch the ball touch the ground before the process of the catch is completed, making this an incomplete pass.
patsrule213 1 year ago
@patsrule213 wrong. the rule does not state that. the rule states that if the player loses control of the ball BEFORE it hits the ground, the pass is incomplete. If the player maintains control of the ball before it hits the ground, the pass is complete. Look at the rule. You're just plain wrong.
