@whitneywellie This is the right song, it's called 'Casting a shadow' and was played on BBC Radio 1 during the eclipse in 1999. It was also released on one of the 'New York City boy' CDs.
'Silver age' was a b-side to 'I don't know what you want but I can't give it anymore' a few months earlier, and was nothing to do with the eclipse.
Actuallysalemslot, unfortunatelly for any uploading reason it was not possible to visualize the name of the song that day, but i know that's from PSB, thanx for being thoughtful.
But this is the 1999 total eclipse of sun and PSB prepared this song to be on air on BBC 2 or 3 (don't remember) in real time with the event! PSB are great!!!
@gianstylist Yes it was the eclipse of the sun, PSB wrote the track especially for BBC Radio 1 to play live as the eclipse happened (which they did). It was amazing :-)
It is a pity that this was stuck as a b-side to NYCB. I did not know there was this song until I discovered it here. Why do they treat their great material so negligently, so obscure? Kylie or some other second-rate pop band/ singer would shoot a sexy video to this and sell hundreds...
I couldn't agree more... this is just the latest, and perhaps greatest, b-side of theirs that I've noticed. Some of them beat the bag out of a-sides from less talented artists... this is incredibly brill trance. I abso-f'in luvit!
Interesting that the day this was performed was on the same day an actual eclipse was going to happen.
It's almost as freaky as the kings cross fire happening right after the psbs kings cross(on it couldnt happen here) came out and at the beggining theres a man on fire
Einsteins theory or relativity had to be proven through documenting eclipses, I belive he tried 3 times around the world top do this moving massive telescopes to each site.
This is off the enhanced CD maxi single UK CD single 1: Parlophone "New York City boy" (Radio Edit) "The Ghost of Myself" "New York City boy" (The Almighty Definitive Mix) "New York City boy" (Enhanced video) UK CD single 2: Parlophone "New York City boy" (Album version) "Casting a Shadow" "New York City boy (Superchumbo's Uptown Mix) "Casting a Shadow" (Enhanced Eclipse Video Footage)
This is one of their best tracks, and yet as a B-side, I'd not heard this track until recently. I've been a fan since 1985 when I first heard West End Girls, aged 11, and it's still my favourite ever song.
I remember this! I was at work in a shopping mall, made my boss record radio 1 just for the Pet Shop Boys while we all left to go up on the roof to watch the eclipse! Brilliant! (She recorded it aswell :-)
Weel i am fan too since 1999 with Nightlife at 14 year old!!! I love them and I haven´t istened this song since a long time ago it´s great and now i rememebrr why I love pet shop boys....they were my first contact with elecronic music.
Is this the actual video that can be found in the enhanced CD singles of "I dont know what you want..." ? I could never get them to watch the video of the broadcast with PSBs Casting a Shadow.
This is very well done and I think the PSB's should give the fans and whoever a chance to mix all their singles like they did with this one. That can give us fans a whole lot of good old 12" extended versions that these days are not so frequent....
Hypnotic. One of my all-time fave PSB tunes, even though it's just a few notes cycled endlessly. :)
