  • This is easily one of my favorite songs, along with "Real America" and "That is the War on Terror". Any particular reason this is unlisted?

  • i just found him today. so funnny.

  • Please, anybody but Mike Huckabee. I don't want to have to see evangelical sermons from the Oval Office on C-span.

  • lol (lughrer to lunch)

  • @bluegrassreb How does it feel to be racist? Is the mental gymnastics hard to do? Do you ever have moments of cognitive dissonance where you are just at the brink of thinking,'Wait! this is WRONG!' and then a neuron misfire and you feel better? What is it like?

  • why is there a bible ad on the side of this video??!?!!?!?!? da fuk XDXDXDXD

  • Is america ready for a folk singer-songwriter liberal president,

    vote roy zimmmerman 2012

  • @arachnophile01 Roy Zimmerman/Jon Stewart?

  • The question for the election... is R-U-READY

for someone other than Sarah Palin for vice

presidentie? The answer is an unprecedented

yes for Joe O'Biden...as Sarah is wont to say.

Roy Zimmerman will get my $1 easily bought

    vote next paycheck.)))

  • "i don't want anyone to know it's me, so let me pick a name that no one will suspect... oooh, i know, i'll spell my old user name backwards! yeah, that'll really throw them off my trail."

  • ignore namtesyalp. no one likes a fake. or a bigot. or a troll.

  • look up a video called "the story of playsetman" to see what an idiot namtesyalp is.

  • the ending of this is genius

    i love roy zimmerman

  • with all the thumbs down, you should be asking why do people hate you so much?

  • Him not get thumbs down, you get thumbs down,

way down. You be an admitted lacrymal.

That why you not like Roy.

My country tears of thee...u da man of misanthropy...

  • Buchanan HELLOOOOOO????!

  • Haha...every time I watch this video, the song gets stuck in my head for the next couple days or so.

And so I'm walking around singing the chorus to myself, and nobody around me has any context to it, so they just think I'm insane. Not to mention the fact that the election was almost a year ago.

  • Who'd win in a wrestling match:

    Roy Zimmerman or God?

    Trick question.

    Roy Zimmerman IS God.

  • Comment removed

  • hahaha

  • @ArianneHermida Roy Zimmermans tears bring social justice. too bad Roy Zimmerman never cries

  • @arachnophile01

    Nice, nice.

  • @arachnophile01

Contrary to popular belief, The United States is not a democracy; it is a RoyZimmonarchy.

  • Women are in the majority. But people like you tend to believe we have special rights as well. Personally I'd give any sort of affirmative action for the freedom to walk down the street at night safely.

  • Like cancer, for example.

  • I dcan't believe that 40 years ago, blacks were not allowed to sit at the same table at whites. And now we have a black president!!

  • he is half black or just black half the time when you can't see he had a white mother like most people thedcrat

  • Hahaha...vote Huckabee

  • reply to deagla (re the reptilian conspiracy)

i never used to believe in that sort of thing until some lizard turned you into spam..

  • That comment was supposed to be a reply to Saxman3692's comment.

I dislike the 500 character limit.

  • No, I believe in this song he is pointing out the fact that homophobia, sexism, and racism have played serious factor in elections. What are the chances that the politicians with the most agreed with ideas have all been white? Race, sex, orientation, and religion should not interfere with elections. The only things that should matter are the candidates plans on what to do America. Race won President Obama the election. Even though I support Obama, I think his race shouldn't have won it for him.

  • so he had to fill just the bottom of the tub with water??

    two thumbs deep!??

  • I'm so glad that America apparently IS ready...

And I can't get enough of Roy's music, it's scary.

  • I'm with ya! At first I thought his songs were a bit mediocre, then I came back and I just can't seem to stop clicking. It's addictive!

  • Buchanan HELLO!

    LOL

  • Actually, LBJ came from poverty if memory serves.

  • There have been some presidents who weren't born rich, but most of them had become rich before they took office. But yes; guys like LBJ, Hoover, and Clinton weren't born into wealthy families.

  • GREAT!

  • Roy Zimmerman > Anything ever made in the history of the universe ever.

  • Agreed

  • you guys need to do more astronomy. ;)

  • @caligoacheron True. However;

Kamina >>> Everything in the History of Every Universe, Ever.

  • wait kennedy was catholic ! right?

  • which is why he started with LBJ

  • and then lbj finished him! hahahahaha... murder is funny. ...waitaminute.

  • catholic is maybe huge improvement on protestant in a country of wasps but is essentially part of the same christian hypocrite conservative family.

bottom line is what person tries to be. Rice tried to be wasp - ironically bush went with her policies and got obama elected.

i think more important than obama being the first "black" president - is we can all hope that he is the first intelligent guy in charge who is not corrupt or controlled by any evil forces in as long as any one can remember.

  • Hell yeah we are really!!! that is why Obama is the new president!

  • Appearently not!!!!

  • Goddamn right we are!

  • (ummm...that was meant as a response to "Is America ready for a black president?" ;) not the central rhetorical question of the song. In case anyone was wondering. *sheepish grin*)

  • You know, when the next presidential election comes around, chances are this song will still be fully on-topic even if Obama wins this time. After all, what are the chances that the GOP won't nominate another rich white guy? Pretty low.

And don't try to say Sarah Palin. After her humiliating performance these past 2 months, chances are she's going to fade into obscurity pretty fast if McCain loses.

  • Sarah Palin is such a joke anyway.

  • SP fade into oblivion? Hasn't happened yet. (Unfortunately) BUT I can still HOPE!

  • I <3 you Roy

  • Superb Song, but one question, wasn't JFK catholic? Isn't that change enough for you in some 5o years?

  • JFK was catholic. Indeed he was the *first* Catholic. Decades prior at least one candidate wasn't nominated because he was catholic and who was nominated in his place won. :3

  • I absolutely love this song! Thanks again for coming to Indianapolis and signing my cd, I really admire you for traveling across the country and singing your heart out!

  • Dude - *LOVE*

Thank you for your wonderful music and rapier wit! No matter what happens, you'll be here to keep us laughing.

  • the 'vote huckabee'

    was also sarcasm right?

  • Holy crap. I just about spit my lunch over my keyboard! This was hilarious.

  • one of your best songs yet! it made me laugh so hard. congrats on another hilarious song

  • This is about the seventh video of yours I've seen. I, sir, am in awe.

  • Why is it every fuckin youtube video is a platform to discuss Evolution vs Intelligent Design.. Seriously get the fuck out.. Good job Roy.. love your work.

  • Amazing! I love your songs so much. Thanks a trillion, Roy!

  • I love the tune for this song! You should try jamming with a band to compliment your songs!

    Love your Lyrics

  • Plus-size Black Muslim bilingual low-income lesbian for president!

  • After a great deal of consideration, and about a thousand listens, I've come to the conclusion that this is my favorite Roy Zimmerman song.

    So far.

  • Wow, a favorite! It's so difficult, as you say, about a thousand listens is about what it takes. For me, the 'one' is "Jerry Falwell's God".... which is saying SOMETHING because I LOVE the others a lot! But they come and go... maybe it's the .... HUH! that follows at the end of each stanza/chorus/whatever...... it gets me every time!

  • Sounds like a Barenaked Ladies song.

  • Love the cool Jim Croce chords

  • The Taft joke is going to be my ringtone.

  • What do u expect when half the Christians r preaching the destruction of the scientific method & democracy?

Y'no muslims in the middle east were the leaders in the scientific world several hundred years ago, then their religion took control of the science, with the theocracy dictating what should/shouldn't be accepted. Look @ where they r now.

I bet u would hav less skeptics breathin down yer neck if yer Xtian buddies werent abusing the court system 2 directly inject pseudoscience in2 textbooks.

  • There's a huge difference between blind faith and believing in something because of empirical data.

Really, the argument that evolution and other scientific theories are just as much a "faith" or "religion" as christianity is just stupid.

  • "Too bad evolution, the big bag, and all that is simply a religion itself..."

look up the definition of "religion" please.

  • Very christian language there. Evolution and the big bang theory aren't religions. They are scientific theories tested and confirmed by evidence. Religion doesn't allow for itself to be tested.

  • They have. Just saying.

  • Its still a theory dumbass, its not proven... "Evolution and the big bang theory aren't religions. They are scientific theories tested..." you said it yourself

  • Uh, yes they are proven. The evidence is the proof (and there's lots of it). You seem to be getting confused with the word "theory". This doesn't mean that we are waiting for evidence so that we can call them facts, it means that they are frameworks within which we can explain various observations and phenomena.

  • Very well said.

The only reason we don't say

    "Creation Science theory"

is that for a theory to be durable and useful

it must have testable, reproducible results.

And because it's become a sacred cow.

  • yeah. hes right. ever here of the theory of gravity. well we all know its true. but yet its still called a theory. evolution is proven.

  • Im glad you all have 'Online' PhD.'s in physics and biology, but just because you say something is proven does not make it so. I wasn't aware that we created an alternate universe and replicated the big bang; guess Im behind on my physics literature.

  • You're behind on your understanding of scientific proof.

  • Political patzies argue about proof. True scientists aren't in the buisness of proving anything but testing hypothesis. For example another person brought up gravity - any idiot can drop something and see that it falls; that is worlds apart from scientists hypothesizing that a sub-atomic partical may be responsible for this force. Scientists study specifics when everyone else in the world wants them to create general answers. It doesn't happen this way, it never has.

  • Okay, I feel the need to explain.

    1) The big bang theory happened. You see, "Big Bang" is a bit of a misnomer. At its essentials, the big bang theory states that since we have proven that everything in the universe seems to be moving away from everything, in the past everything in the universe must have been closer.

  • You are using conjecture and theory based on an observation that everything is moving away. That does not eliminate other hypotheses because the big bang can never be directly tested. Not only are things moving away in the universe - the expansion is accelerating! - It is a logical and probable theory, but still just a theory. Proving one facet does not prove the whole - that is the composition fallacy.

  • YEAH. FUCK THOSE FUCKING HYPOCRITICAL ASSHOLES AND THEIR INTOLERANCE.....

but wait. what does that make you?

  • Love it, nuff said :)

  • if this guy was president im quite sure america would be 20 times more respected than it is now

i think its only george (of the jungle) bush that has got america into the worlds "to be laughed at" sections

vote Roy Zimmerman, we'll stop giving you funny looks

  • In fact America has become quite scary for the world, even compared to Russia.

Putin is a straight guy who controls everything, but in the US we dont see the guys who really control the goverment, we just see the puppets they send to the public.

Capitalist democracies are more of threat than extreme regimes, because they hide the real minds behind the plans better.

  • haha, "Vote Huckabee."

  • I absolutely love the delivery for the lines about Taft!

  • Please come to Purude Roy, I love your work, and would love to see you live.

  • The question isn't whether candidates are too corrupt to become potus but if they are corrupt ENOUGH! lol

  • Love it.

  • antic5, you have that right!

But Roy, as always you rock! Ever thought of writing something about Ron Paul?

Cant wait for your next one.

    vix :)

  • Roy, can there PLEEEEEEASE be a how to play video for this? The chord progressions are seriously awesome.

  • Definitely a +1 from me. Roy, if you are ever going to make another How to Play, then please let it be this one... :-D

  • Vote Roy for dictator!!

  • I sure would if I lived in the US :)

  • Thank you for your support in our "Roy For Boss" campaign. Please send money, I'm flat broke.

  • I got the your new CD last week. You're a very special guy - we need you. Don't die young like Lenon, Hendrix or Joplin! Just eat healty and don't hunt with Cheney. Love Ya!

  • You all seem to be under the misconception that you will be voting for President. Americans have never voted for President - we've voted for Electors. Electors who can pretty much do whatever the hell they want. Why? Because we're still using the electoral laws set up before Al Gore was kind enough to make instant national communication possible. My question is: Is America Ready to abolish the existing anachronistic electoral laws and finally begin electing its president by popular vote?

  • A big whew-hoo from your fans in Terra Linda, over the ridge.

Although you have done 42 songs about Dubya, could you come up with something like a SAYONARA, NUMBNUTS song to bid goodbye to Bush and Cheney in January?

Also, while you are at it, how about posting a different show's version of the Irish Beatles Medley? You'd said that it wasn't fiscally possible to put it on CD, but since it's one of your venerable encores, a better-recorded version would be a real treat.

    Tried getting on TV?

  • The only president that wasn't 100% of what Mr. Zimmerman listed as all the other presidents had in common was JFK. He was Catholic. Interesting to think about.

  • Woooo awesome! keep up the good work!

  • I've had this song stuck in my head for three days, and I couldn't be happier.

  • Exellent song! Its a joy to listen. :D

  • I absolutely adore the phrase "George the Lesser". It so fits.

  • Barak Obama is a rich male Protestant man. Hillary Clinton is a rich white Anglo-Saxon Protestant. So, you know, you can never stray too far.

  • well, if we did get a gay black atheist transsexual nominee with 2 heads, i'd still hope most people would vote for him and/or her while the alternative was still John McCain.

  • I don't think McCain is that bad of a choice. He's a hell of a better option then any of the other ones of his party. Plus, I don't like how everyone rats on him just because he's a republican and that he's older then Obama. But hey, I'd vote for a gay black atheist transsexual nominee with 2 heads also if he was gonna do a good job. (Nice description BTW =) )

  • Tassadarky, of course you're correct - in principle, anyways ;) presidential elections should be about policy rather than any given candidate's skin color/gender/age or whatever. that said (and speaking for myself here), I don't think McCain would be a terrible president just because he's old or a republican - it's more because I can't see any practical difference between HIS policies and those we're already suffering from GW.

  • You would really vote for someone like that? Maybe I should run after all.

  • You forgot "proletarian hobo".

  • I like the way you don't refer to either of them as straight.

  • Yeah. I forgot that one. But they could be secretly bi.

  • We can only hope!

  • Don't forget that Obama is straight, too!

  • I learned everything I know about American politics from watching The West Wing. Matt Santos for President!

  • I'm not (snigger)

  • Zimmer-man, Zimmer-man, does whatever a zimmer can ... uh ...

I guess i'll leave the songwriting to Roy

  • another great song of course. Ha your add on the video says "John Mccain For President"

  • "Nuff said" lol

  • lol

  • roy is my hero.

  • Good stuff.

  • Great, as always.

  • Another gem. I was waiting for a Lewinski angle to the Clinton ref. Hahaha! Textbook double entendre.

The Howard Taft ref was totally random, it was just as funny.

We missed your satire Roy. Please don't make the next wait as long as this one was!

  • oh shi- its boburnham.

  • Yeah, but all mature and political and socially relevant and rap-free

  • a COUPLE hundred 32. my bad.

  • 232 years?

  • Bwahahaa!!! that was well above the standard chuckle RoyZee!

  • As always....You rock.

  • Great, Roy, great. If I ever visit your country, I'll do my best to track you down and go to one of your shows. It'll be worth it.

  • Excellent

  • Holy cow....you're frickin hilarious...yet again. Thank you for saying outloud what we're all thinking. :)

  • WTF?!?! Ketchup isn't a vegetable?

  • My whole life has been a lie!!!!!

  • tomato's are vegetables

  • Tomato is a fruit

  • "WTF?!?! Ketchup isn't a vegetable?"

reagan's administration said so about school lunches

  • This refers to a bad move by the USDA during the Reagan Administration. They reclassified ketchup & relish as vegetables so they could skimp on school lunches. It was never put into practice because of a large outcry from both sides of the aisle.

  • Standing ovation! (Same as for every song you do.)

  • Hilarious as always, sir! Is America ready for Roy? No, but Canada is. We're like America... except with free love. And free medicine. And, like, lots of free stuff.

  • Another viewer who probably came here from PZ Meyer's blog.

Anywhoo... AWESOME SONG! Definitely one of my favorites now. =3

  • Fantastic song, Roy! Hey, for everyone who enjoyed this video, please know that as good as the song sounds here, it sounds about a zillion times better on Roy's album, "Thanks for the Support," which also contains a lot of other great songs. So go to Roy's website and order this CD posthaste!

  • Dear Joan,

    Thanks for YOUR support.

    x0x0

    Melanie

  • JOAN! How the hell ARE ya, girl?

  • Will you be in Bethesda, MONDAY, 21 July, or SUNDAY, 20 July? Maybe I'll just wait for the calendar. :-)

  • Excellent job Roy! Please come to Baltimore.

  • Hi. I've made a "campaign promise" to perform in all 50 states before the election. I'll be in Bethesda MD on Sunday, July 21. Please stop by my website and sign up on my mailing list to receive monthly newsletters - that's the best way to stay up on new music and new gigs. The 50 state tour dates will be up shortly.

    Thanks for supporting my music,

    Roy

  • Me and my father might go and see you there, thanks Roy.

  • Hey, cool -- I can't make it to your Arlington show the next week since I have a gig in Pittsburgh that weekend; but I'll damn sure be at the Bethesda gig :)

Another great song, btw. Can't wait to get that CD!

I recently heard Chris Rock say something to the effect of "[George W. Bush] has fucked up so bad that it's hard for a white man to run for president." True enough (I hope), and funny as hell, but Dubya's got plenty company on the dishonor role.

  • I've got the idea that your guitar is a little off pitch here..?

  • IS America ready for a black president? I'd love to think so. I'd love to see this intelligent, pragmatic, idealistic (say what you will, I believe that is what we need in these times) man make it to your office.

But I'm really not sure. Still, giving credit where credit is due: every single West-European I know took one glance at him when he first came into public eye and said: 'He'll be shot in a few months.' Well done. That hasn't happened! Yet.

  • What better way to celebrate the Fourth than a new Roy Z video? Eeeeexcellent...

All this *and* a front-row seat at the fireworks? I am totally stoked.

  • Is America ready for a President with a publicly published IQ?

  • BRAVO, Roy!!!

Damn... when are you coming to Davis?

  • Just vote for the best person and the best policies. Ignore race and gender.
