@bluegrassreb How does it feel to be racist? Is the mental gymnastics hard to do? Do you ever have moments of cognitive dissonance where you are just at the brink of thinking,'Wait! this is WRONG!' and then a neuron misfire and you feel better? What is it like?
"i don't want anyone to know it's me, so let me pick a name that no one will suspect... oooh, i know, i'll spell my old user name backwards! yeah, that'll really throw them off my trail."
Haha...every time I watch this video, the song gets stuck in my head for the next couple days or so.
And so I'm walking around singing the chorus to myself, and nobody around me has any context to it, so they just think I'm insane. Not to mention the fact that the election was almost a year ago.

Minorities always know better than an educated and proven white man.
That's just how it works. If you're a minority, you must have special rights that only apply to you, and everyone will see your advancement as some kind of progress marker for the country.
Hipocrisy is only applicable if it works against the majority, evidently.
Women are in the majority. But people like you tend to believe we have special rights as well. Personally I'd give any sort of affirmative action for the freedom to walk down the street at night safely.

The least powerful man in the world used to be a guy found guilty of a crime that he had not committed - strapped into a chair in the middle of USA. He would have run out of choices but be left with that one last dilemma -
Should he take deep breaths and go through a less drawn out and painful death or should he instinctively try to hold his breath and live that tiny bit longer.
Now the guy in the white house is faced with another monumental dilemma - how much does he insist on real justice.
I must admit, the point of this song escapes me. Maybe there's a stigma about the "rich white guy in authority," but what makes Zimmerman think that a black president or gay president would conduct himself differently? Sure, there would be huge differences in their ideologies, but Zimmerman focuses primarily on the faux pas of past presidents rather than their actual policies (hence the humor). But to assume that only the white guy could make so many mistakes is rather narrow-minded.
No, I believe in this song he is pointing out the fact that homophobia, sexism, and racism have played serious factor in elections. What are the chances that the politicians with the most agreed with ideas have all been white? Race, sex, orientation, and religion should not interfere with elections. The only things that should matter are the candidates plans on what to do America. Race won President Obama the election. Even though I support Obama, I think his race shouldn't have won it for him.
There have been some presidents who weren't born rich, but most of them had become rich before they took office. But yes; guys like LBJ, Hoover, and Clinton weren't born into wealthy families.
I stick it in the exhaust pipe-like you do your a**-People begin to wonder-how can I be so dumb-but this analogy I am showing-is just good old fasion fun-Who cares if it is unhealthy-because I have my rights-to display my stupidity-and senseless logic to new heights-This song that I wrote-is done in a certian way-to remind your time is comming which is your judgement day.
catholic is maybe huge improvement on protestant in a country of wasps but is essentially part of the same christian hypocrite conservative family.
bottom line is what person tries to be. Rice tried to be wasp - ironically bush went with her policies and got obama elected.
i think more important than obama being the first "black" president - is we can all hope that he is the first intelligent guy in charge who is not corrupt or controlled by any evil forces in as long as any one can remember.
(ummm...that was meant as a response to "Is America ready for a black president?" ;) not the central rhetorical question of the song. In case anyone was wondering. *sheepish grin*)
You know, when the next presidential election comes around, chances are this song will still be fully on-topic even if Obama wins this time. After all, what are the chances that the GOP won't nominate another rich white guy? Pretty low.
And don't try to say Sarah Palin. After her humiliating performance these past 2 months, chances are she's going to fade into obscurity pretty fast if McCain loses.
JFK was catholic. Indeed he was the *first* Catholic. Decades prior at least one candidate wasn't nominated because he was catholic and who was nominated in his place won. :3

Uh, yes they are proven. The evidence is the proof (and there's lots of it). You seem to be getting confused with the word "theory". This doesn't mean that we are waiting for evidence so that we can call them facts, it means that they are frameworks within which we can explain various observations and phenomena.
Im glad you all have 'Online' PhD.'s in physics and biology, but just because you say something is proven does not make it so. I wasn't aware that we created an alternate universe and replicated the big bang; guess Im behind on my physics literature.
Political patzies argue about proof. True scientists aren't in the buisness of proving anything but testing hypothesis. For example another person brought up gravity - any idiot can drop something and see that it falls; that is worlds apart from scientists hypothesizing that a sub-atomic partical may be responsible for this force. Scientists study specifics when everyone else in the world wants them to create general answers. It doesn't happen this way, it never has.
1) The big bang theory happened. You see, "Big Bang" is a bit of a misnomer. At its essentials, the big bang theory states that since we have proven that everything in the universe seems to be moving away from everything, in the past everything in the universe must have been closer.
You are using conjecture and theory based on an observation that everything is moving away. That does not eliminate other hypotheses because the big bang can never be directly tested. Not only are things moving away in the universe - the expansion is accelerating! - It is a logical and probable theory, but still just a theory. Proving one facet does not prove the whole - that is the composition fallacy.
In fact America has become quite scary for the world, even compared to Russia.
Putin is a straight guy who controls everything, but in the US we dont see the guys who really control the goverment, we just see the puppets they send to the public.
Capitalist democracies are more of threat than extreme regimes, because they hide the real minds behind the plans better.
I got the your new CD last week. You're a very special guy - we need you. Don't die young like Lenon, Hendrix or Joplin! Just eat healty and don't hunt with Cheney. Love Ya!
You all seem to be under the misconception that you will be voting for President. Americans have never voted for President - we've voted for Electors. Electors who can pretty much do whatever the hell they want. Why? Because we're still using the electoral laws set up before Al Gore was kind enough to make instant national communication possible. My question is: Is America Ready to abolish the existing anachronistic electoral laws and finally begin electing its president by popular vote?
A big whew-hoo from your fans in Terra Linda, over the ridge.
Although you have done 42 songs about Dubya, could you come up with something like a SAYONARA, NUMBNUTS song to bid goodbye to Bush and Cheney in January?
Also, while you are at it, how about posting a different show's version of the Irish Beatles Medley? You'd said that it wasn't fiscally possible to put it on CD, but since it's one of your venerable encores, a better-recorded version would be a real treat.
The only president that wasn't 100% of what Mr. Zimmerman listed as all the other presidents had in common was JFK. He was Catholic. Interesting to think about.
well, if we did get a gay black atheist transsexual nominee with 2 heads, i'd still hope most people would vote for him and/or her while the alternative was still John McCain.
I don't think McCain is that bad of a choice. He's a hell of a better option then any of the other ones of his party. Plus, I don't like how everyone rats on him just because he's a republican and that he's older then Obama. But hey, I'd vote for a gay black atheist transsexual nominee with 2 heads also if he was gonna do a good job. (Nice description BTW =) )
Tassadarky, of course you're correct - in principle, anyways ;) presidential elections should be about policy rather than any given candidate's skin color/gender/age or whatever. that said (and speaking for myself here), I don't think McCain would be a terrible president just because he's old or a republican - it's more because I can't see any practical difference between HIS policies and those we're already suffering from GW.
This refers to a bad move by the USDA during the Reagan Administration. They reclassified ketchup & relish as vegetables so they could skimp on school lunches. It was never put into practice because of a large outcry from both sides of the aisle.
Hilarious as always, sir! Is America ready for Roy? No, but Canada is. We're like America... except with free love. And free medicine. And, like, lots of free stuff.
Fantastic song, Roy! Hey, for everyone who enjoyed this video, please know that as good as the song sounds here, it sounds about a zillion times better on Roy's album, "Thanks for the Support," which also contains a lot of other great songs. So go to Roy's website and order this CD posthaste!
Hi. I've made a "campaign promise" to perform in all 50 states before the election. I'll be in Bethesda MD on Sunday, July 21. Please stop by my website and sign up on my mailing list to receive monthly newsletters - that's the best way to stay up on new music and new gigs. The 50 state tour dates will be up shortly.
Hey, cool -- I can't make it to your Arlington show the next week since I have a gig in Pittsburgh that weekend; but I'll damn sure be at the Bethesda gig :)
Another great song, btw. Can't wait to get that CD!
I recently heard Chris Rock say something to the effect of "[George W. Bush] has fucked up so bad that it's hard for a white man to run for president." True enough (I hope), and funny as hell, but Dubya's got plenty company on the dishonor role.
IS America ready for a black president? I'd love to think so. I'd love to see this intelligent, pragmatic, idealistic (say what you will, I believe that is what we need in these times) man make it to your office.
But I'm really not sure. Still, giving credit where credit is due: every single West-European I know took one glance at him when he first came into public eye and said: 'He'll be shot in a few months.' Well done. That hasn't happened! Yet.
This is easily one of my favorite songs, along with "Real America" and "That is the War on Terror". Any particular reason this is unlisted?

Capitalist democracies are more of threat than extreme regimes, because they hide the real minds behind the plans better.

I got the your new CD last week. You're a very special guy - we need you. Don't die young like Lenon, Hendrix or Joplin! Just eat healty and don't hunt with Cheney. Love Ya!
gunapie 3 years ago 6

Tried getting on TV?

The only president that wasn't 100% of what Mr. Zimmerman listed as all the other presidents had in common was JFK. He was Catholic. Interesting to think about.

Barak Obama is a rich male Protestant man. Hillary Clinton is a rich white Anglo-Saxon Protestant. So, you know, you can never stray too far.
keenthesaurus 3 years ago
well, if we did get a gay black atheist transsexual nominee with 2 heads, i'd still hope most people would vote for him and/or her while the alternative was still John McCain.
alderby 3 years ago 2
I don't think McCain is that bad of a choice. He's a hell of a better option then any of the other ones of his party. Plus, I don't like how everyone rats on him just because he's a republican and that he's older then Obama. But hey, I'd vote for a gay black atheist transsexual nominee with 2 heads also if he was gonna do a good job. (Nice description BTW =) )
Tassadarky 3 years ago
Tassadarky, of course you're correct - in principle, anyways ;) presidential elections should be about policy rather than any given candidate's skin color/gender/age or whatever. that said (and speaking for myself here), I don't think McCain would be a terrible president just because he's old or a republican - it's more because I can't see any practical difference between HIS policies and those we're already suffering from GW.

The Howard Taft ref was totally random, it was just as funny.

"WTF?!?! Ketchup isn't a vegetable?"
reagan's administration said so about school lunches
dancingnature 3 years ago
This refers to a bad move by the USDA during the Reagan Administration. They reclassified ketchup & relish as vegetables so they could skimp on school lunches. It was never put into practice because of a large outcry from both sides of the aisle.

Thanks for supporting my music,
Roy

Yet.
